Eric Gordon says player drug abuse was problem at IU

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3777010

Not all that shocking, that program is a mess.
Gordon, who left after his freshman season and now starts for the Los Angeles Clippers, said some players' drug use led to friction on the team. Gordon said he spent time with a family friend in Bloomington because of the atmosphere surrounding some players.

Then-coach Kelvin Sampson tried to stop the drug use, Gordon said, but Sampson "was just so focused on basketball and winning and everything."

"Sometimes it felt like it wasn't even a real basketball team because of all the turmoil that went on," Gordon said.

Former Indiana guard Adam Ahlfeld said players were aware of the drug problem.

"I wasn't really with those abusing drugs, so I can't say what was really going on," Ahlfeld told the newspaper. "I wasn't involved in any of those things."

There's probably a drug problem w/75% of the basketball programs out there. 100% of the football programs.

If Gordon is going out of his way to say this I assume he's talking about more than just weed but I'm sure we'll never know. I'm guessing that's what you mean by the 75% comment, because there's no way 75% of programs have kids doing coke.

yeah, thats what I took from it. If the problem was that severe I would assume that he was talking about some serious drugs

Nah. I don't assume there is alot of coke. But youth today have a benign opinon about weed. & atheltes are always looking for an "edge" from enhancers. Its not limited to football, baseball & track.

I've been on numerous teams where a number of guys smoke weed. And it was never a problem. But I've witnessed a couple of teams at my college that had a coke problem and that fractured those teams. I had a good friend on one of the team's and I heard all the problems. It was a mess.

I don't think most players care about teammates smoking outside of the fact that they're putting themselves at risk if they get caught and suspended.

We had a few kids smoke semi-regularly on my college team and I coulda cared less. Most of them chilled on it during the season anyway so I guess we were lucky. Drinking was another story though, lol.

Uh American has a "drug abuse problem"....why would student athletes be any different?

I don't understand this stuff at all. Who cares as long as they are sober when they are playing the game. After the game I hope they all have a little fun. That is what life is about.

^ WTF? You don't think that kinda behavior affects team chemistry and your personal performance level? You're obvious not that committed if you're doing lines in your free time.

But then again you also said in that other thread that you have no problem with your girl grinding all up on some other dude.

What does cocaine do to your body? You ever done it? It would hardly effect performance if used in moderation.

Again drug use is hardly uncommon in society. A lack of sleep by players who are studying and stressed out would likely effect player performance as much as moderate drug use.

I ain't got a jealous bone in my body....don't know what this has to do with drug use in sports but whatever.
