They also need to have better timing in terms of what plays should cause them to pop up, what types of things should be displayed in the overlay (86 stuff like ring builder stats, frequent drive updates, and other stuff that wouldn't be shown in a TV broadcast overlay). The overlays need to be stricter and more individual player focused...

No more of these overlays with "Passing Summary" or the like. If, say, Peyton Manning is the QB, we don't need a generic "passing summary" of stats. We need his specific individual stats with his name attached. It only makes sense.

Then take post-play camera's... they just need to get rid of those strange zoom-outs and far-away shots and stick close like TV.

Replay angles... they need to change the replay angles to be closer, and field level like TV... most of the angles chosen are just not appealing. They disconnect you from the action on the field.

Use more large shots. More shots that frame the player, and use those shots to post up stat overlays so the player is being properly spotlighted.

And finally, they need to make the playcall screen a full screen structure with a large clear window that shows us continuous live happenings so that it all fits together seamlessly from field to playcall, playcall to field. This would be very, very impressive.

... I believe they can do all of these things this coming season because all of the components are already present in Madden 09. It's just a matter of using what they have now, differently... better.

Whether it will happen or not we don't know, but from what the devs have all said presentation is going to be a priority again this season. If they don't rock it out this year, then when? It's not like this generation is going to be around much longer. If it doesn't happen this upcoming season, then I'll be highly skeptical that it will ever happen this generation.
Man, I was just thinking the same thing while playing the other day. Its the camera angles that destroy the immersion on the field. After a play the camera needs to focus on the key player of said play and have his stats posted, along with the commentators saying something about the player. The camera should track the player while walking back to the huddle or track him while coming out of the huddle with commentary and stats. Thats how its done during real time NFL games.

They already have the camera executing this, but it basically just tracks the offensive line while breaking out of the huddle. Utilize that camera motion, but use it for specific players, ie, the LB, DB, etc who just made a tackle, or the WR, RB, etc who caught the last pass or run or what have you.
