    Realistic???

Ok... so I know there is a seperate thread, but noone seems to be reading the sliders thread.

What is the best setting that people have settled on? I play 15 qtr. and I want the absolute most realistic experience. I have tried a couple, and then I have heard default is best. PLEASE.. for those of you that have completed 1 or more seasons. What was your slider set? Thanks, and happy Gaming!

I believe most people have given up on sliders. I've simmed through season of 100 point sliders (me) / 0 point sliders (CPU) and didn't notice a difference.

If you want a harder/easier experience, you have to pay attention to your coaches special skills and performance ratings.

So are you saying that default is the way to go then? I mean sheesh can anybody give me a little insight? This is a pretty sad board. surely people playing have completed more than 1 season. All I'm asking is if default sliders are the way to go, or post yours if they have worked for you. Like 40 views and only 1 reply? Guess maybe it's back to madden.

Oh, guess the singular thread thing kinda threw me off. Don't actually have the game yet (Ordered it last week, still hasnt shipped :P) but it seems that sliders do next to nothing and that good players are going to have "video game numbers" and that bad ones are going to do ehh no matter what.

For what its worth, I play with the default sliders and it plays just fine.

first off, dont go by the people who sim games to test out the sliders. the sim engine is pretty different from actual gameplay.

i dont use default sliders. i cant tell you what they are at the moment, but ive generally gotten very realistic stats for my teams. im in season 4 and ive gradually been tweaking them over the 4 seasons, but ive stuck with the current settings for over a season now. i dont buy into the statement that sliders dont work. they might not work the way they should and the degree to which they effect the game might not be as obvious as in other games, but i do think they have an effect.

id love to post my sliders, but im always at work when im on here. next time i play ill try to make a mental note of what my sliders are, and if i do that i'll post them. they do look fairly similar to claystones though. i know my rb ability and run block are closer to 80 though, and im pretty sure ive got my special teams sliders on default. like i said, ill try to check for ya, but no guarantees.

                        Re: Realistic???

I have played the 2008 and part of the 2009 season with the Bears, and have had good results with default sliders (this is playing each game). I won the rookie of the year award with Matt Forte, who had about 1100 yards, so I didn't really have a problem running with him. He had some down games and some monster games, pretty realistic. Kyle Orton's performance was also pretty similar to his real 2008 performance, maybe a little better.

The only area I have a problem with is the pass rush. I get sacks and pressure, but there are a huge number of pancakes which often leave 3-4 of my DLs on the ground, giving the QB a lot of time. I tried to fix with sliders but never noticed any real differences, so I went back to default.

Also, I went 9-7 in 2008, blowing my chance to advance to the playoffs by losing to the Texans, just like the real Bears. I know some have found the game too easy, but so far the challenge has been perfect for me.

I tried these in my Steelers Franchise, and my running results went from a respectable 4.0 to 2.5. I have Steven Jackson as my RB and I was using plays my 88+ OL and he had mastered. So I tweaked the Run Blocking to 60/60 and it went back to 3.8ish.

Edit. Didn't see your 99/99 change. I was using 40/40 as you had posted before. Now that I think of it, I may have been using 45/45. But I would not see how that culd make that big a difference.

Try the sliders with the 99/99. It makes a big difference. As you know i use to play with 45/45 from the very begining, but 99/99 makes the HB have moves.

I am going to keep this short, because the detailed repy I wrote was lost when the forum logged my out while I was writing it. This forum sucks rocks.

Anyway, don't make radical changes to the sliders. Most slider discussion boils down to voodoo and guessing. I have found one slider does work, Running back ability. Only change that slider after at least one franchise season.

The thing is that franchise factors play a large role in how the game plays out. I don't sim games and have played at least 60 franchise games. Also, I do believe that speed backs don't do as well as they should in this game, so focus on a power running game.

I will bullet my points this time:

-Only change the RBA slider after the first season AND IF the CPU is averaging less than 4 ypc. If the CPU is managing that, chances are that the running game is doing fine and needs no tweaks, assuming you have an average defense.

-When you do change sliders, set CPU and Human to the same levels, otherwise you will be guessing yourself into the next century.

-Power running game is key here.

-If you want a running team, you must build your team around it. You need the right HB and OL with good run blocking, strength, and footwork. You need to allow time for your players to learn the playbook, it makes all the difference. You also need to pick special abilities related to the running game, add these abilities to the HC, especially if you call the plays.

-I ran my sliders at 75 RBA and 80 run blocking, but I think that was too much. Over time CPU power running teams became over-powering. I was trying to compensate for my average performing speed back, but I ended up helping the CPU way too much.
