That's true no arguments here. The thing is that was a conference game, like the UF-Ole Miss, OU-TX, USC-OSU, and TX-TT game. Those game should be tight. You play the same team every year, you run the same schemes. You pretty much know what you are getting. People want to knock Utah for playing TCU close and being flat against Air Force. Every good team is going to have a close battle in conference and every team is going to play down to and struggle against at least one poor team in conference play. The difference between Utah and the other schools I mentioned is they still managed to win those game and thus are 13-0 and deserving of mention in the title picture.

Re: Some Harris Voters hadn't even watched Utah play before last Friday
You have to not only win your tough games, but score style points. They did against Alabama, but TCU manhandled them for 59 minutes, then screwed the pooch in the final minute. (451 yards to 275).
Still, undefeated is undefeated and it's not Utah's fault that Michigan stunck so bad. The Utes didn't know that would be the case when they scheduled them, so I give them credit.Comment

Not defending BYU by any means, but getting to play Wyoming and San Diego State and Weber State or whoever isn't like running the gauntlet in the SEC, Big 12, or Pac 10.

I usually agree with the whole "gauntlet" thing, but not this year. You'll probably say, oh FSU was a bowl team! Kentucky was a bowl team! Yeah, anyone that plays in those conferences are a bowl team, practically. Not impressed.
And the argument of "TCU dominated Utah"...ok, Utah won. Texas lost. Florida lost. Oklahoma lost. What's your point? Utah gets dinged for being "dominated", yet winning, but the other teams get a pass for LOSING?
Oh, and in case you forgot, Wyoming won at Tennessee.Last edited by nstod; 01-06-2009, 10:45 AM.Comment

Re: Some Harris Voters hadn't even watched Utah play before last Friday
Given the current system, probably no one. I think Florida, OU, and USC have the best arguments, depending on who wins Thursday night, but I base that on who each lost to and when, which of course is stupid.
And I'm not even a playoff system proponent. LOLComment

Re: Some Harris Voters hadn't even watched Utah play before last Friday
I don't understand how anyone could not be a playoff proponent at this point. The BCS system is a bad joke.
Whoever wins the BCS title game will still be a mythical champion in my mind. Right now I think that USC, Utah, and Texas could all make legitimate claims for the title along with whoever wins between OU and Florida. There's a reason why every other major sport in the world has a playoff system to determine a champion.Comment

Re: Some Harris Voters hadn't even watched Utah play before last Friday
The people that vote are morons.
In 2006, a voter dropped OU because he "thought" he over heard someone say that OU lost. He didn't see the game, see the score, or anything. I bet stuff like that happens all of the time.
You can look at how some of the people vote. It's obvious they don't watch all of the games. I would bet that most of the posters here on OS watch more football than the actual voters do.***My Teams***

But they aren't and won't be.
Utah, 0 losses. For all you youngsters, refer to the 84 national champions. Compare that team's schedule to Utah's.
Utah won't be the national champions. Whether they deserve it is up for debate, but their championship status will not be. At best, they'll end #4.Last edited by Cebby; 01-06-2009, 12:53 PM.Comment

Re: Some Harris Voters hadn't even watched Utah play before last Friday
Big surprise. Not. There are approx. 120 FBS teams, potentially 60 games per week if no one played FPS schools. Times 12 weeks, plus conf title games. 700+ games a year. There's no way anyone could watch each team's games & make a fair assesment against a variety of opponents. Alot of us are jumping on the pollsters now, but when we were given our own chance to weigh in on Utah, we voted them 7th. http://www.operationsports.com/forum...2-08-08-a.html All this does is show the stupidity of letting opinions decide a "champion". Which is why I said earlier in the season, as far as I'm concerned, there's never been a national champion in football.Comment

Re: Some Harris Voters hadn't even watched Utah play before last Friday
True, but realistically if you are a Top 10 team the voters should be watching your games. All of the bowls are meaningless anyway and with the amount of scrutiny the BCS is getting you'd think that the voters would at least want to watch the Top 10 teams to get the best national champion. Obviously though, it hasn't been the case.Originally posted by VP Richard M. After hearing some of the Harris Poll voters during the 2006 "controversy", this doesn't surprise me at all, and it's a joke that this "poll" is a factor in any way, shape, or form.Comment

Utah @ Michgan, Oregon State @ Utah, and TCU @ Utah were all nationally televised games. How could they not have even seen those games? At least for some of the posters here, they had a background of Utah and an ability to make a reasonable judgment from watching a few of their games. The Harris poll voters, meanwhile, probably had no idea about the team they were voting for and were probably copying each other's votes.
Have you checked the credentials of some of the Harris Poll voters?Last edited by Chip Douglass; 01-06-2009, 09:16 PM.I write things on the Internet.

But this irrelevant because every game in the regular season is a playoff. Right? Right?
