Fun? Serious? Which Kind of Play Do You Prefer in the All Star Game?

So which type of play do you like during the All-Star game?

I'm kind of in the middle with this.

Part of me wants both teams to really go out there and play hard. I'd really like to see what the best in the league could do on the floor together against similar talent.

Then the other part of me likes to see the guys go out there and have fun. I like to see the playground moves, the fancy passes, the highlight dunks, and just see the players having fun out there.

As of right now, it seems like they play around for the first half, sometimes through the third. There are also a few guys out there who really do look like they are playing seriously out there even while other players aren't (Kobe always seems like he plays hard...IMO)

So what do you think? How would you like the All Star Game to be played?

I like when guys look at it in a competitive way. I don't mind that fun is a part of it, as long as it's competitive fun. They shouldn't be mutually exclusive. Obviously no one wants a "nasty" All Star game, but bragging rights should seriously be on the line. It'd help a lot if the winners talked a lot of crap until the next All Star game. Never let the lesser conference forget it. The year that Iverson and Marbury won it was kinda like that, and it used to be like that during the MJ era.

That's really why I loved MJ. "I'm not going to let you beat me. We can have a lot of fun, as long as I win." Love that attitude.

I'd prefer it to be 100% serious. Sure it would be kind of sloppy with there being limited offensive and defensive sets in place, but I think we would see some really great stuff. The best basketball plays are those that happen when everyone is going all out. The things we see now are essentially meaningless because of the token effort.

I know that because of the potential for injury that we'll never really see a game that is serious for 48 minutes. Its totally understandable.

This is why IMO, the baseball all-star game is the only one that is really watchable.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

LOL Speaking of Kobe, remember when he answered Mike's shot in Jordan's last ASG and people were calling Kobe disrespectful for not letting Mike go out on top.....
        Concrete evidence/videos please

I noticed they normally play the game for fun. That is untill the 4th with about 8 minutes to go then all of them start taking it very seriously! ha Sometimes though it's to late by that point. One side is already up by 25 or something crazy.

Fun, because I love to see what NBA players can do if they were in the And 1 tour.

Basically, it shuts up all those And 1 players for one day at least.

Remember when Jordan took 7 fadaways (half of which Shawn Marion blocked) then he finally hit one and everyone was like he's the best. 9-27 in that game.

I like the all-star game to be competitive. I think you can have fun and be competitive. I have enjoyed the last few all-star games.

I don't know about that. Many of those guys either have respect for the NBA players, or have had competitive relationships with them on the playgrounds or in college. In many cases the respect goes both ways. Also, a lot of NBA players appreciate what those guys can do with the basketball and look to steal some of those streetball moves and showcase them in these All Star games.

Competitive and serious, like the one where the east came back with Iverson playing great and Marbury hitting 2 three pointers in the end they came back from a hole I think Larry Brown was the coach, that was the greatest all-star I don't like the exhibition it's boring they look like the Globetrotters sometimes.

If I was ever invited to one I would probably play something like Ron Artest.

And 1 is such a joke...

I prefer the ASG to be serious. I want to know which conf. has the best All-Stars, and watch a game where players are competing to win and not competing to make the next flashy dunk...that's what the dunk contest is for.

It was all Jermaine O'Neal's fault. Kobe wasn't gonna hit that 3. Kobe was having an off game. If he made all his FTs, the West would've won in 2OT, and that last FT that eventually sent the game to 3OT kinda bounced in.
