Re: Your Most Overrated Movie Ever

Braveheart is flat-out horrid. I have never been able to spot a redeeming quality within it. Of course, I have always hated Mel Gibson's work, so that could have something to do with my opinion.

The Dark Knight, while good, is definitely overrated. Heath Ledger's Joker is great, but many of the other characters are nearly unwatchable. Scenes without The Joker are simply not good. Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman is painful to watch. What is with the Batman voice that makes him sound like a death metal vocalist with ravaged vocal cords? It's not even close to one of the best films of '08.

Field of Dreams spends so much time prattling on and on about the "poetry" of baseball that I can't even tell if this movie is meant to be taken seriously. The line, "Dad, wanna have a catch?," is one of the biggest "facepalm" bits of dialogue in cinematic history.

Gladiator was an entertaining, summer-time action movie. However, its characters are very much like the characters of a comic book, with the clear-cut "good" and "bad" guys. The movie has very little depth, and how it won Best Picture I will never know.

I could spend all day listing overrated films, but I'll spare myself the time.

I will be the second to say Gladiator.

The fact that it won Best Picture over Traffic and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is ridiculous.

I can see how people feel this way. I got it on Blu Ray for Christmas and hadn't seen it since the summer and wasn't as impressed. The suspense the first time around is great but outside of Chigurh's character it's a very average movie IMO.

Coen Bros movies have never been about plot, more on the quirky characters and world they inhibit. I think alot of people are disappointed about the movie because of the non ending and the way Brolin dies so inconsequentially but that's something that almost expected with these guys. I thought the movie was a top notch thriller until the end and very rewatchable.

Even if their movies are about "quirky" characters I don't see anything remotely unique, special or quirky about a single character outside of Chigurh.

LOL at some of these selections.

                    Anyway...

Heat - I've heard a lot about this movie being one of the best before I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Pacino is great in it, but the rest of the cast is just meh. The coffee-shop scene between Pacino and De Niro just felt corny. Its a good movie, I could listen to Pacino scream non-sense all day long, but not the greatest thing ever.

Add me to the 300 pile, too. A good action, popcorn film with cool visual style but people need to chill with the 24/7 dialogue quotes.

                      The Dark Knight.

Heath Ledger was great. Christian Bale was ok. I didn't like Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I enjoyed the movie, but it didn't live it up to the hype for me.

Wait a second, you said it was overrated and now your claiming its the greatest movie ever? Are you changing your mind or did I read your initial posting incorrectly?

On a side note, this thread really shows that its different strokes for different folks as some of the movies listed as overrated are awesome movies imo and dont deserve to be rated as such.
