I am having fun and the career mode seems fun like the first. It's definitely just more of the first, with the ability to get off the board (clumsy, but still helpful). If you didn't like the first, you'll hate this one, but otherwise it'll be hours of fun for us.

Re: Skate 2 Impressions
Spent several hours with it today. I loved the first one because it was by the far the best representation of skateboarding ever. The Tony Hawk series just took it way to far to be enjoyable IMO. I skated for 13 years so I definitely appreciate sim style. I was reading the IGN review today before I bought it and something struck as me lame that they said with regard to the control scheme and pulling tricks...........they said that it was hard to go off ramps and handplant on balconies and stuff. Umm..........what? DUH! This isn't Tony Hawk where you can launch 50 feet in the air off a launch ramp into a grind all the way around the roof of an office building and ollie from there into a boardslide around the top of Yankee Stadium into a tail-slide along the wing of the Space Shuttle as it orbits the planet.
Anyway, It's nice to be able to walk up stairs even if the controls are horrid. Moving objest can also be an exercise in frustration, but I can look past it. And yeah, the respawn can be absolutely terrible at times.
Controls feel the same which is a good thing. The day Skate moves away from realistic skating is tha day I step off. I haven't gotten around to doing much of the new tricks yet......spent most of my time so far completing career challenges and skating around.
The city feels more cluttered to be honest. I like the old San Velona (or whatever it's called) that didn't look the entire city was built to be skated with transitions all over the place. This new city feels more Tony Hawk-ish in that much of the city looks like a skatepark.
The vert controls are something I was hoping they'd refine and so far as I can tell they haven't. The pumping mechanism still sucks. The vert/pool skating in general still sucks. That should be a real focus of the next game. It's just bad. I haven't played a Tony Hawk game in probably almost 7-8 years but even the first Tony Hawk game did vert skating better than this. They should call this game Street Skate. Not a huge deal as I spent the vast majority of my skating career skating street, but I also spent alot of time in the pools so I hope they clean this up next time.
The customization of boards/wheels/etc are good enough for me.
Overall it's a good extension of the first game and i've still more to explore in the gameplay and city. And the Flick it controls are still the best thing to happen to skateboarding as it translates to a video game. It's a very logical control scheme.Comment

I'm sure they didn't mean the pool balconies, but like the extensions by the halfpipe at Slappy's. Those are hard. Re: Skate 2 Impressions
I take back what I said about liking the old city better. I like the new one now. I had the hardest time pulling that pro challenge where you have to tailslide then make the gap into a noseslide (or vice versa). Finally made it though.Comment

Re: Skate 2 Impressions
So this game the career challenges are "harder" than the first? Damn, I found the first one to be quite hard and was the reason I stopped playing. I have very little patience sometime but I remeber SKATE being a controller breaker.
I just wanted to get to the X games but etting past some of the challeges (I think it was the one in Plan B) was really hard for me.
And its harder now? FailGT: Event Horizon 0Comment

Re: Skate 2 Impressions
From the makers of Razor's Edge comes the next spot in -dammit this is skate and not Tony Hawk,it has gravity and no grind button- called Swiss Cheese Moon, had to kind of cheat to kill that one. Also you can't walk on sand. I wanted to go on the beach.
The ship is awesome. Good luck to you sim only people with that own the spot.Comment

Re: Skate 2 Impressions
I beat everything in skate. (with the odd exception of not getting the last 10 gamer score for the video rating, if anyone wants to help there I can dig it out), so I think I'm pretty decent, but I can't get the poop deck pool kill the spot, its 1500 points and I think the most I get to is about 1200 with some cheesey flip grind flip grind grab spin action. What's the high scoring move I need to do to pull that one off?
I also couldn't figure out how to change cameras in my footage, do I need to earn those in a challenge or just read the instructions better?Comment

I would say it's about the same as far as challenge difficulty. So this game the career challenges are "harder" than the first? Damn, I found the first one to be quite hard and was the reason I stopped playing. I have very little patience sometime but I remeber SKATE being a controller breaker.

Re: Skate 2 Impressions
Just wait till you play SKATE with Koston and Carroll. They sometimes mess up their tricks when trying to set the trick just to give you a try, but Carroll never misses when you set the trick. So this game the career challenges are "harder" than the first? I asked earlier but nobody answered yet. Is there anyway to download other peoples graphics for boards? Or can you only use the ones that you create?Comment

Any impressions from the visual side of things? Are the graphics and animations, in general, superior to SKATE 1?Comment

Re: Skate 2 Impressions
Online's so much fun. Played a while with tcrouch today and we had a blast trying all the new modes and areas...lots of spots to go wild with.
Hall of Meat is hilarious trying to get the most brutal bail, I could see with a good group online everyone would be dying with laughter.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
