Team of the Decade Pats or Steelers?

I saw this while reading the paper today. Since 2001 both the Patriots and the Steelers have been to a combined 6 Super Bowls. The article makes points for each team, but I thought that OSers could do better than a 5 paragraph article. Thoughts?

Patriots have been to 4 Super Bowls since 2001 (lost once, won thrice) and the Steelers have been to 2 Super bowls (won twice). Even with that one loss, I'd take the three Super Bowl wins over the two Super Bowl wins. The Patriots are still the team of this decade. But I have an inkling that the Steelers are on the verge of getting another Super Bowl or two within the next 5 years. I think they're that good.

Pats missed the playoffs twice, and in those years they were 10-6 and 11-5.

Patriots. More super bowls so far and even if Steelers win the next one they'll be tied for the decade. Even with Super Bowl wins out of the equation Patriots have been the more dominant team, beating records and almost going 19-0.

The only thing i'd say the Steelers have going for them is that Spygate might hurt us when it comes time to write the history books.

Spygate definitely hurts NE. I say its a push. I dont really think its safe to say its either team taking into account spygate

Wouldn't this be more relevant after the 2009 season is completed?

Allegations of rampant steroid abuse did not stop the steelers of the 70's being the team of the decade, can't see spygate being any different for the pats.

                1) No other teamw as really in contention for the Team of Decade
                2) Steroids weren't against NFL rules and were rampant throughout the NFL
                3) The Patriots actually broke rules to get a competitive advantage, that is much worse.

I don't see how this is even a question. Especially considering the Pats have been to TWICE as many Super Bowls and have more Super Bowl wins. If you take it even further the numbers are even more in favor of the Pats. Since 2001 which this article uses as the start point the Pat are 97-31 to the Steelers 85-42-1. Not to mention the all the records the Pats have broken and the perfect regular season. But the final nail in the coffin for the Steelers is the fact that the Pats have beat them in both of their playoff matchups. So that shows when they went head to head when it mattered most the Pats won BOTH games. I mean there was talk of the Pats being a dynasty. There is ZERO dynasty talk of this Steelers team.

Throughout this time span the AFC East has been one of the worst conferences in football, save the NFC West. Whereas the AFC Central has been one of the toughest conferences in football year in and year out.

Honestly, I think the injury in the first 7 minutes of the season changed everything. Had that injury never happened I think the final outcome of the season would have been quite different.

That said, the Patriots are the team of the decade so far.

                        No.

There is no way for Pittsburgh to match NE's success.

The Steelers are 94-49-1 with 2 Super Bowls and 2 chips

The Pats are 102-42 with 4 Super Bowls and 3 chips

At best, the Steelers end with the same number of chips, 1 less Super Bowl and a few less wins.

Patriots but the Steelers are not really far behind them some folks are saying.
