So i just "Michael Phelps'd" and played the demo for the 3rd time. I was the Phillies. After a 1 hit first inning for Hamels Rollins led off with a nice double that was just out of reach of the 1st baseman which was nice because in 08 he prob would have made a ridiculous play. Now let me just say that its so nice seeing the laces on the ball, visuals are great. Next AB, Werth. I see Kazmir throw me a middle-inside fastball and launch it. I'm up 2-0. Next AB, Hamels get a single. Crowd is going nuts at this point, cut to Phillie fanatic dancing on the dugout. Rays pitching coach comes out to talk to Kazmir, they show him come all the way out and walk all the way back. Howard hits into a double play.

Next inning they tie it up with a 2 run Pena home run. I come up with Victorino and hit a nice shot to left field that looks like it has a chance, Crawford runs back jumps to catch it, nails the wall, misses the ball and falls to the ground and has to get up to try and catch Victorino in time at 3rd so i get a leadoff triple. (stat pops up about 07 league leaders in triples, nice touch) Next AB, sac fly to LF. I end up winning 3-2. But the whole game with the presentations and how great the pitching camera is and the way the players move, this demo is more realistic than any other sports game i've ever played.

Few bumps and slight glitches (not so much glitches as just things that need to be touched up)

    1. When Werth came up the 2nd time, when his stats poped up the letters rbi were messed up and right behind the HR letters so you couldn't read what it said. I couldn't get a picture since obviously it went away quick but it might just be something that will be cleaned up and no problem by release.

    2. The Phillies' manager (or maybe it was just an assistant coach) was mexican with a mustache but had white hands. It was odd looking and like #1 might just be something that just gets polished up by release.

but other than those 2 dumb, little cleanups you can see that the makers of the Show understand what people want in a sports game. Think of how amazing the gameplay is and the presentation and rather than trying to get gimmicky like other sports games tend to do they just make minor touches that make it more realistic and what people want. Like expanding rosters in franchise and contracts and all that good stuff for people that want a more in depth franchise mode. They added some things to RTTS mode for those that enjoy that mode. So whether you play franchise or RTTS your pleased. And then they add eye black, sunglasses, and other options to the player's and now add in your own custom music in the game. They used the PS3's power to the full advantage.

I can't wait for this game to come out so i can play as the Yankees. That stadium is going to look amazing in HD. I can't even try to play 08 anymore, just can't go back.

and i think your right about allowing us more time to decide whether to swing or not. I think that's why some people had trouble check swinging, because they were swinging too early while others were able to check just fine. And i also was swinging early on fastballs i'd used to rock in 08. But now i'm more patient and i can see the differences and spin and location of the pitches better than i could in 08. I think with being able to see the laces better helps that out. But it's not a major change, just a minor tweak to improve hitting.

The Show should never release on the 360. The game would not be as good on the 360 and would take away the focus for the PS3. The PS3 is more powerful so they're able to do more with it and the blue ray and all that good stuff. PS3 was a great investment. Especially because i sold back my 360 that had the red ring and with all the accessories and games had to only pay $20 for a PS3.

So it's totally different, non related issue.
For some reason, I always thought that the MLB games were available on on both the XBox and the PS2. Is that not the case?

Not this one. Never has been. It is a Sony maker.

                Good article.

Can anyone recall a more anticipated sports game in recent history? I can't remember ever knowing a game was going to be this good 2 - 3 weeks before the release. Obviously, there is always the chance of unforeseen game killers(well, probably not), or at least some minor annoyances. And while no game is perfect I'm ready to experience virtual baseball perfection come March.

The lighting is unreal the only problem that I saw was when pitching from the outfield or pitcher view the pitcher is way smaller than the catcher and hitter. I can't wait till march

Were any of the Sony/989 games available for the XBox, e.g. NFL Gameday?

I'm going to go download it now. Look, all these stunning visuals are great, but the need for decent simulation is paramount in any baseball game. How does a guy bat against LHPs? Why is Johan Santana throwing 70% curveballs when in reality he uses his changeup and fastball almost exclusively? I could go on, but those are the kinds of questions I have.

I am pretty sure it would not be allowed on the 360 since 2k owns the rights to MLB games. Only reason they can still make it now is because Sony is a sponsor of major league baseball.

Wow!! Up there with NHL 09 graphically and simulation. Some observances ( minimal stuff ) I noticed was the fans walking behind home plate walk to the bottom of the aisle, turn around and go back up one after another. Also there was a moment when the announcer was showing a graphic for the top innings pitched pitchers from the previous season and Cole wasn't on the list , Also the year said 2007. I understand this isn't a finished product but just thought it was worth mentioning in case of overlooks. Can't wait for March 3!! Great Job!!!

Actually, I don't think it has anything to do with Sony being a sponsor of MLB.

The license that 2K has is an "exclusive 3rd party license". This means that 2K is the only company that can make an MLB licensed game for all consoles (and PC). The agreement still allows 'First Party Development', hence Sony can make a game for Sony Consoles (PS3, PS2, PSP). If they chose to, Micro$oft could make an MLB game for the 360, Nintendo could make a game for Wii etc...but the Micro$oft game couldn't be ported to PS3 or Wii or vise versa.

Now, Sony could make "The Show" for 360 (and Wii) if they didn't use any MLB stadiums or players. They'd have to use fictional characters and locations, or at least players that aren't part of the MLBPA (That was how EA was able to release the NCAA baseball title).

#1 tells me you have a good eye, and I concur. #2 tells me you never watch real hockey. NHL 09 doesn't resemble the actual sport.
