I wouldn't attribute it to come back logic either, but I do think it's a problem in the gameplay. I have had this happen to me plenty of times in 2k8, where I had the player in the exact right spot and they don't try to catch the ball. I hope it's not a serious problem in the retail version because this game looks a lot more promising after all these videos. I like what I've seen so far(besides this)...

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video (Gamespot)
I'm really surprised by the negativity here. I think all of the videos I've seen so far look excellent. Sure, there are some graphical glitches and some weird animations sometimes, but this looks like an extraordinarily fun game to play. And you know what? There were weird glitches and animations in MVP 2005 and in High Heat, the generally-accepted "gold standard" for video game baseball. We got over them because those games were great.
I also can't fathom the "rocket arms" comments. Pujols scored relatively easily on a sharp line drive into center field. Fukudome has a decent arm, and Pujols is a slow turd. It seems to me the play should have been even closer than it was.
And on the play where Soriano lets the ball drop right next to him, the user didn't go back far enough on the ball. Sure, it would be nice to see an animation where Soriano reaches for the ball and misses it, but the end result is the same. The user misplayed the ball, and the ball rolled to the wall.
It looks like it's finally going to be possible to distinguish between balls and strikes, and the real-time atmosphere is absolutely incredible.
I understand the frustrations with the previous iterations of this game, because I share them. But I can't believe people are reacting this angrily to the same videos I'm seeing.Of course, if Dawson gets hot, and
Sutcliffe comes through, and....
Pa, see what you did to me?

I think it works both way though. To be honest most who have gripes with the way the game looks aren't bashing it. Just as most who have good things to say aren't bowing down to it.I'm really surprised by the negativity here. I think all of the videos I've seen so far look excellent. You have to read between the extremes. The trouble is there are people here who are intent on trying to discredit any criticism of the game at all. People who like things just the way they are and make sure to jump on anyone who differs in opinion.
I think the constant defense of every single criticism leads to some of the outpouring of frustration by some (obviously there are those who will never be positive).
I'm not really surprised by any of it to be honest, as it's a usual cycle this time of year
. Some people (on both sides of the fence...positive AND negative) are too caught up in their loyalties and try to state their opinion as fact for all.
We should all be able to differ in a respectable way. Sadly, many here (again, on BOTH sides of things) are bent on personalizing a videogame...lol. Oh well...must be baseball season
As I said before, I have my gripes, but I do see a level of improvement.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video (Gamespot)
I dunno. Man, I was expecting something else. Love the presentation, but the players are really stiff, throwing out the back of their heads. Did the one replay on Dempster making a great play on a ball hit up the middle show the ball going into CF and being fielded by Fukudome? Or did I see it wrong? PLease correct me if I'm wrong.
Man, I dunno. I thought I'd get some "wow" out of it. Hopefully, more to come, but this isn't a good first extensive preview.
And....just in case....The first amendment gives you the freedom to SPEAK, NOT the freedom to be heard. My doggy knows that, lol.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video (Gamespot)
2k Should just scrap the baseball games and give up the license. Its the same issues every year with this series.
How can you not get the fundamental sound of a bat hitting the ball. That is the essence of baseball.
They continue to have the same robotic animations. Some of the plays look laughable. All the outfielders regardless of the power meter get into a canned animation like there going to throw there arms out of socket.
Its a shame to have great commentary and the same old gameplay to back it up.Comment

Did you miss the Cubs fans getting angry after the 3rd run scored. They were chanting "(Something, couldn't make it out) sucks!" for a bit.I think the point was the complete lack of reaction, not the specifics. There should be either boos, disgusted reactions, etc. When a HR is hit, the crowd is rarely just "ho-hum, time to get a hot dog."
.
They did have the throw it back chant, but it was canned (at least it was something, I guess)Comment

Never saw Soriano play the field, huh? He's a butcher.I think the worst thing about the video was the Soriano miss early in the video. That right there is game killing. He was standing right there and never attempted to catch the ball.
I think the best thing about the game as I see it are the replays. SCEA needs to take note, those replay angles were all really good.
I won't buy the game though. I've seen nothing to make me want to get it.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video (Gamespot)
Looking at the Cubs video I must say it looks pretty good. I like the graphics a lot, while it's a lot better then last year's game it has sort of a scaled down look to it. The announcing is a million times better which is shocking as I thought they'd mail that in again but I think i'll be playing the game with the sound on for a while yet. The only thing that concerned me was not seeing a single ground ball.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

No, No...I heard some reactions. I was talking the initial reaction after the HR....pretty pathetic.
The good news is that one of the devs said the crowd is MUCH more boisterous in the final build and they spent plenty of time optimizing them. So that has my hopes up.

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video (Gamespot)
Finally!! We get VC on the job of baseball and now I can see the improvements for baseball from 2K. This game is headed in the right direction folks. Although it will not win the graphics battle this year, the thing that always bothered me about 2K baseball was that things that happen is a real baseball game were not happening in 2K7 and 2K8. From these few vids I can see REAL improvement here in the game of baseball. All other things will come, but the gameplay, and of course the usual 2K presentation is looking sharp. For all of the negative remarks here, the positives from where this game has come from in a short time far out shine the bad.
I am looking forward to this game.
Finally, from the small amount of video evidence I've seen, 2K is on the right track.

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video (Gamespot)
I think this is an improvement which will definitely be a solid playable title but there are just so many things which irk me.
-I hate that they change the hit stick for casual players and it looks stupid when the guy playing just would hold it back before the ball came
-the yankee unis/hat look god awful; why is the logo so big? Names on the back of jerseys look weird as well
-crowd looks good but the stadiums just lack that it factor which make them look life like and majestic
-I hate the pitching circle
-Commentary is better but still needs work. Thorne was meh but Phillips was good
-Kill the organ player
-The animation look funky a times
-The ball looked so awkward leaving Lesters hand in one vid
-The graphics need a huge upgrade, it looks bland multiple player faces are way off and skin tone is off on many people to.
-bat sounds need work
I know there trying to revive a dead franchise and need time however this doesnt look like it will fit my interestComment
