Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: All Star Game Triple Play
The Devs stated in their Q&A, that the sound was neither fully optimized nor all the audio events included in this Beta release. They make it sound like it was a routine play. Every clip ive seen the commentators seem to have the same "tone" I'm not saying squeal like little girls but they dont even sound the least bit excited to me. Part of the aspect of commentating is getting the viewers excited about whats happening during the play. If the commentators dont sound as excited then it will take away from the excitement of actually playing that game.
I'll give them benefit of doubt until I have retail version in my hands or a Demo from a better more optimized build.
*The audio is much better on the Rays/Phillies video Steve just posted. All these videos look/run/sound much better once I downloaded them.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: All Star Game Triple Play
The new video is a perfect example of exactly what im talking about.. at the very end of the clip rollins is rounding third and the ball is being thrown in. I mean this is a very close play and is very exciting to watch. All i hear from the commentary is "... there's the throw and he makes it all the way from first..." I mean the commentary is great they are very fluid but i just don't hear the enthusiasm. The crowd is cheering which is awesome. The celebration by rollins at the end is very realistic. However other than the fans cheering where is the excitment? You don't see the umpire waving his arms "SAFE".Last edited by johnnyg713; 02-15-2009, 02:16 PM.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: All Star Game Triple Play
Dude it was the first inning, Plus as many have posted the audio is not fully implemented in and Would you rather have a discrepency or a Home run in May by Ryan Howard in the second inning to make it 1-0 sound and feel/look exactly Like Ryan Howard hitting a Walk-Off in september against the division rival Mets? Granted they do get very excited dont get me wrong but check this outThe new video is a perfect example of exactly what im talking about.. at the very end of the clip rollins is rounding third and the ball is being thrown in. I'm sorry to do this, but I gotta correct you on this word. This is the second time I've seen this word spelled wrong. It's granted. Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: All Star Game Triple Play
The thing is this: it's being played at an NL park, and the game doesn't seem to recognize the concept of a neutral field. If the Orioles, for instance, turned a triple play at Yankee Stadium, would Yankee fans cheer?
In this case, the fans were behaving as "NL fans" instead of a neutral fan base and were stonily silent at the visiting team for turning a TP.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: All Star Game Triple Play
What sports games need - not just MLB 2K9 - is the third option of fan reaction.
Yes, there's Booing and Cheering, but there's also the Startled Gasp, which is basically "oh!" and gasping in an OMFG mode by the fans.
The Startled Gasp would occur when a strange play occurs (ie. triple play, weird dive) - which would be followed by cheering if it benefited the home team, or an injury on the field (which would be followed by cheering if it's a visiting player at Citizens Bank Park or Fenway).Comment
