Detroit - If Detroit could stop getting behind by 2 or 3 goals early in every game, they may have a chance. New York stormed out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, but the Wings battled back to tie it early in the third. A last minute goal by Michal Rozsival gave New York the win. Fans in Detroit have already started headhunting for new head coach Larry George. George responded by saying, "changes are coming very soon if this keeps up, I promise you."

          What's Wrong with the Wings?

Detroit - Questions and finger pointing are piling up in Motown as Detroit has stumbled out of the gate with a 2-3 start. Taking most of the criticism is new head coach, Larry George.

But is he REALLY the problem?

Or is it that the combined number of goals by Marian Hossa, Henrik Zetterberg, Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen is exactly 0? Yes folks, that is a zero! When four of your biggest scorers are not scoring, what else can you expect?

Or is it the goaltending? Chris Osgood for the most part has looked bad this season. Ty Conklin hasn't been much better. Soft goals are the norm right now. There are rumblings that Jimmy Howard could be on this way up from Grand Rapids soon.

Or is it the fact that opposing teams seem to be able to score at will from the slot? Everytime an opposing player gets the puck in the slot, Larry George expects the red line to come on shortly thereafter.

"Yeah, it is frustrating when you see the other plays head for the slot and you know a goal is coming...maybe shooting accuracy is too high, but then we would probably be shutout every game," said Larry George.

One thing is for sure, whatever the problem is, a solution better be found...and soon.

St. Louis - It seems all the drama surrounding the Wings slow start has not yet affected the players. Detroit was very listless in this game, and never did get into it. Brad Boyes scored twice to lead St. Louis to an easy 4-1 win over Detroit. After the game, coach George announced that Brett Lebda will replace Andreas Lilja in the lineup and that Ville Leino was called up and will replace Mikael Samuelsson on the third line for their next game against Atlanta.

Detroit - It seems the new additions and line changes worked for the Red Wings. Ville Leino, making his NHL debut, set up Jiri Hudler for his first goal of the season, as Detroit nearly blew another game. They ended up winning 3-2 in overtime versus the Thrashers. Marian Hossa also scored his first goal of the season in the win. Valtteri Filppula continued his hot play, scoring his team leading 4th goal, the overtime winner.

                            Wings put Samuelsson on waivers

Detroit - The Detroit Red Wings have placed winger Mikael Samuelsson on waivers. Samuelsson has yet to register a point this season and was never a favorite of new GM Larry George. If unclaimed, Samuelsson will report to Detroit's AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids. Ville Leino has taken Samuelsson's spot on the third line in Detroit with Kris Draper and Jiri Hudler. Samuelsson makes $1.125 million this year.
