Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: A's @ Mariners (Bottom 9)
My bad, I should have been more specific. I suppose Steve isn't a beta-tester per se, more of a beta-gamer.
And again, it's the main reason I made the post. I was just surprised that something that noticeable was not only not noticed, but that they actually saw the opposite (static lighting).
Because it was in 07 doesn't mean it transfers to 09. Change a code and just about everything else may need to be junked. That's how it works and I thought you understood things like that because you keep pointing it out.
My workaround for a roster problem with The Show last year doesn't work in this years game, and on the surface you would not think it would be a problem, but because the code was changed in one thing (probably the addition of the 40 man roster), it had an effect on the workaround. Again, I thought you had more understanding of coding/programming than the average gamer.
And of course, it could simply be nitpicking in general because I'm thankful for the things in the game that were incorporated, especially real-time. As nemesis said, there are bigger concerns in this game, though that doesn't mean the littler concerns can't be brought up/addressed too. Does any notice that EVERY A's player has the same batting stance? In the top 3 plays, and in Felix's strikouts shown at the end.Comment

No playable Spring Training.
I may be in the minority, but I would have much rather preferred seeing 50 generic stances added than 300 unique stances (300 generics wouldn't have been bad either). Besides, generic doesn't need to mean "normal looking" or what have you, it could just mean that it's non-specific... it wasn't targeted to look exactly like a player, even though it may represent a player quite closely. It doesn't need to have a slow moving bat, for example.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Like with everything the Jays get the short shrift. Nice to see one of the camera angles is the straight behind the pitcher angle. That's what the Jays broadcasters use for home games.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: A's @ Mariners (Bottom 9)
I think you need to relax buddy.. it's video game, not real life. If you think you know everything about baseball, then why aren't you designing this game yourself or on the 2K team?
Give me a break, yeah I am sure I must not know the game considering I am 26 and have guided my school to a city finals and tournament victories.
There are much bigger things you can rip on your kids for in the game of baseball. Not even close at the plate, even if he does throw it? Am I supposed to pin the loss on the A's CF? Wow, relax and learn some fundamentals of the game.. Or, better yet, why don't you apply at 2K on the design team Mr. Know it all.
People like you ruin these boards with your put downs and negativity.. I said reconsider your opinion. I did not disregard it. There is no plate at the plate dude. Ichiro is way too fast and already rounding 3rd by the time he even picks the ball up. RELAX
You are overreacting to my post.
I even went on to say such "over the top" things as...
"I'm half kidding about....so and so" and...."it's no biggie"
I made one simple comment about the game ending play going to the cutoff man looking off...
You guys stepped it up by actually trying to defend that play.
I'm not allowed to comment back?
Please.
....and please...it's sweet that you guided your team to the city finals at the ripe old age of 26. You want friggin' cookie?
I'm the know it all?

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: A's @ Mariners (Bottom 9)
That said, there are a couple of things here. It's typical in games that the game programming already pre-computes whether or not -- in this case -- a throw home will do any good or not. It looks to me like the game programming computed it had no chance to throw out Ichiro, and therefore made no attempt to do so. The Show has this same sort of programming: a CPU batter will run leg out a triple on an OF hit when it computes that the user has no chance to throw the runner out. There's no sense with plays like that, that the game programming is doing anything except pre-reading the result -- that it already reads the CPU runner will end up on 3rd and that the user has no possible chance to stop it.
The other thing is 2K has had fielder aggression sliders and it may be a simple matter of adjusting those IF VC hasn't removed them.Last edited by baa7; 02-21-2009, 01:14 PM.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Video: A's @ Mariners (Bottom 9)
If Ichiro is on second base, and that ball gets hit up the middle, and assuming the CF is playing where he was in the context of the game, there is not a centerfielder in the game that throws that ball home. They scoop the ball up, and jog to the bench. In fact, let's say that the shortstop happened to be playing short centerfield and made a diving play on the ball. The game is over with Ichiro running off second base. Period. I love arguing baseball as much as the other guy, but there is not a centerfielder in the game that throws Ichiro out on that play. None. David Ortiz? Maybe. Ichiro? Not a chance in hell.
So trying to come up with yet another "minus" for bad AI logic or programming, with regards to this particular play, is asinine, and simply someone looking for an argument.

You're really bad at debating, aren't you? And not so good when it comes to logic and baseball strategy either. LOL.Comment

Yep, apparently bad at debating. Non-debatable arguments especially. Logic and strategy? Play some baseball, then we'll talk.
