Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
Whoever said before that his fielder just stood there as a ball fell right on him, it just happened to me. The guy just stood here and wasn' moving. I switched players with A to the player next to him and all he did was a rolling dive over the top of the ball and missed it too. Then by the time the dumb animation finished, the guy was at third. ANother thing, EVERY TIME I hit a line drive o the short stop going at an angle towards center field from the infield, when he catches the ball, he just stands there for 5 or so seconds and just sways from side to side along with the outfielders, and I can't do anything...Last edited by dave_sz; 02-24-2009, 04:06 PM.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
Your not missing anything. This is exactly how the developers wanted the pitching to be. We are in the age of mainstream and simple controls. TakeTwo has shareholders to answer to. They don't care about making a realistic, challenging game.So far I just pick where I want to throw, do the motion, and throw a strike. Seems way too easy...am I missing something?
EDIT: I just found out that you dont even need to do the motion for the pitch, just move the stick to the first position of the pitch you want to throw, and it throws it and so far for a strike every time. This is weird.Comment

Well for what its worth, I will give my impressions after playing 2 games. It seems like most people have already made up their mind though. Anyway.....
+Graphics are a step up.
+Control seems more responsive
+Some new, and better bat sounds.
+Animations seem improved. Players don't jerk as much when in the field.
+Pitching seems fun.
+Like the lower batting cam.
+Can read the ball better as it crosses the plate.
+Fielding is well done, just like last year.
+Gameplay overall seems more polished.
+Great commentary.
+Living world works well, for the most part.
+Frame rate is smooth.
-CPU swings at to many strikes.
-Pitch speed is to slow. Should be able to fix this with slider.
-Don't like how you have to hit the A button to control your fielder sometimes.
-Don't like the new steal mechanic.
-Fielding view is hit or miss.
-Not sure if I have the pitching down yet, seems off to me.
-Some animations are still bad.
Overall, I think it is a step in the right direction for the series. It is better than 2k8. Seems like a pretty solid game this year. Still planning on a day 1 purchase.Comment

Same old hack-a-way as MLB 2K#. No one, repeat NO ONE, works counts, and *I* can't work counts because the pitcher seldom throws anything outside of the strike zone.
I still despise all the analog bull****. It feels tacked on. I'm from the school of "Press A to swing". Period.Comment

Do you think its possible that the hitting could be easy for him and not so easy for you? Or is he just wrong??Comment

You do know that you can change the hitting controls to use A to swing in the retail version right?Same old hack-a-way as MLB 2K#. No one, repeat NO ONE, works counts, and *I* can't work counts because the pitcher seldom throws anything outside of the strike zone.

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
I tried the swingstick and I simply don't care for it. I can't get a ball out of the infield using the stick.
It's fine if they want to include alternative control methods, but forcing people to use something that they don't want to use is bad business. I mean I probably wasn't going to buy it anyway since I'll be playing The Show, but I still would like an option for a baseball game on the 360.No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
What's your point?
MY point is they're f'ing wasting time on analog crap when they COULD be spending that time WORKING ON THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL PART OF BASEBALL: THE HITTER/PITCHER CONFRONTATION.
I'd rather have them work on making it so that I can work the count as a hitter and have hitters fooled as a pitcher than the idiotic analog stick, and the even MORE idiotic pitching analog which doesn't feel like baseball one whit. It feels like a minigame crammed into the game to give someone with no attention span something to do.
It doesn't feel like baseball.Comment

Don't have the demo, not a gold member. Hopefully I can download the PS3 version in a couple days, but from watching this....
The game is definitely workable, definitely. I remember buying 2k8 (twice, lol) and both times I had to put it away because the presentation was so repetitive and boring. This games presentation, warts and all, is a vast improvement. One thing I noticed BIG TIME, I saw some pitches called balls that would have definitely been called strikes in 2k8. That's a good sign.
Does the game look unfinished? Yep, to me looks like the first/second year of a three year plan, but, that hasn't happened due to a change in command.
I think it looks like a big leap and if I can update my PC a little bit (actually going to wait and see how other PCs handle the game), I'll be picking it up. Should be tweakable to make everyone happy.Comment
