That's what happens when you put all your resources into trying to do analog controls and worrying about the cow bells in Tropicana and not focusing on the batter/pitcher faceoff, which is 80% of baseball. It's supposed to be a chess match, not a softball toss.

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
What disappointed me most about the demo was that it is dumbed down. You can pick off the CPU runners at will, the pitch velocity is too slow (all pitches look the same), the glow ball thing is brutal, the swing stick makes no sense (all you have to do is push forward) and the ball trail is too arcadey....
I don't understand why 2K knowing that fans are hoping for a huge improvement, would not release a strong demo. You can't even change settings. If this is indicative of the final product I will save my money....
I will say the visuals weren't horrible and the new color team is excellent...What?Comment

With all due respect, what do you think ALL of EA Sports games AI is?This is why I've never been a huge 2k fan. I play all their games and like them but their AI is too scripted and can be broken and exploited way too easily. The only difference being is I was expecting that here. This game is going to have flaws that are going to be exploited after a month of real battle testing. Their games always come off great at first because of the presentation and what not, but it's 2k and their predictable AI.

By the way, I don't like "but it's a demo!" rationalizations.
When you release a demo, that's the first impression you're going to give people. What else are they going to base their impressions on?
If your demo doesn't reflect your game, don't release a demo.Comment

The option for 2K8's 3 step is available in the full game.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
Yeah...the way it was in 2K8. You had to time the release too, which is skipped here. It's available in the final build as an option. I just hope it feels as fluid as this interface does (It felt rather clunky in 2K8). It "feels" right currently, but it's just way too easy.Comment

NBA 2k is the same way. You can pretty much chain certain moves together and score every time. Spin, crossover, hopstep, score. All that said this is the only option on the 360 and I like the demo. It's a good game and I will overlook the flaws. But yeah 2k is very predictable. I know this and have accepted it.Comment

One question: as someone who didn't buy MLB 2k8, can someone explain to me the pitching and how it works?
Thanks.Comment

Re: Major League Baseball 2K9 Demo Available, Post Your Impressions Here
that's strange cause I can see my fielders run towards a fly ball before I touch the stick. I can see them have a mind**** when I press the wrong direction and they do that awkward, stop, change direction, stop, change direction to get going in the right direction again...
One thing I noticed is that you have much more control when fielding. When the ball is in play you get no assistance from the computer, it's feels like your doing everything so you don't always grab the ball fast enough or correctly and it's challenging to make the throw sometimes. I found myself waiting for the computer to assist me in picking up or getting to fly ball. This is a very good thing to me.Comment

Well EA is just as bad. That's the thing. It's not just 2k. It's just the nature of the beast. Human beings even have flaws. Except me of course.... j/k. I am the biggest *** there is lol. But you can find flaws with anything if you look hard enough. That's the absurdity here. But I admit there are reasons why I sometimes prefer other companies over 2k. EAsports being one of them. They had years there where they were the worst though.Last edited by kGinGreen; 02-24-2009, 07:51 PM.Comment

I remember you saying 2k8 was the best everI really like the direction that 2K is going with the game. From the demo it seems they have a good base to work with in the future. However, being that the wife bought me a PS3 for christmas I think I'm going to pass on this years game and go with the Show. Hopefully 2K10 will be the one that gets over the top.
I notice people seem to like the faces but they look quite similar to 2K4 in my opinion. Griffey looks nothing like himself in this game.
NBA2K is the standard of sports games period.Comment
