Re: Updated Online Rosters
I scrolled through every NHL & AHL team in the edit lines screen last night to check things out. Yes, the line combos aren't that accurate -- I don't pretend to know every teams combos, but I know the Penguins and they were off -- but there is the tricky matter of incorporating long-term injuries into the rosters and lines.
Since the primary reason to put out the rosters is for online play (meaning we can't scratch/dress players), EA would likely take a ton of flak if they scratched players who are out of action -- especially stars and especially this late in the season when a lot of teams have a few significant players out of action. Now some people may actually like the idea of Marty Brodeur (I know he's back, but for an example) being unavailable for Devils while he was injured, but you can bet that most people who like to use the Devils online wouldn't be too happy about it. This means that those players are left on the roster/lines at the expense of others, thus complicating who's dressed and on a particular line. It seems their philosophy is to have the best players on the team available for online gamers...
Now I'm not necessarily defending or denying the fact that there are obvious errors that are not be due to roster limitations or similar issues. I'm just saying that in many cases it's not because someone was lazy or didn't know/care. Yes, they could be a lot better, particularly when you get into line combos and special teams units. But, getting those details right would take a lot of research, which means time, which would delay the release. Pick your poison I guess...
[DISCLAIMER: for the record, I'd rather wait and get the best possible product, but I'm sure that's not the case with a lot of their customers]
And remember, Fiddy posted a link to the EA forums where you can post what you think the line combos should be...Comment

Re: Updated Online Rosters
I can understand EA's "lack of proper" line combos (or however you want to state it), because with the trades that happened, it's hard to get everyone on the right lines due to injuries, etc.
My biggest complaint (or issue) would be the rating changes and how they are just "off". Some players you just sit back and say "What??", especially with how well they are performing this year. Example would be Duncan Keith (+30) yet only rated an 82 which seems very low for that well of a performance. Or Ovechkin having lower speed then Crosby...etc.
The lines are going to change in game anyway, especially if you play offline. The cpu will adjust to how they want. It's mainly the ratings that I wish EA spent more time with.Comment

Re: Updated Online Rosters
I also understand that you cant leave star players out if teams because of injury etc considering we have no control over assigning and re-assigning players in online mode. My gripe is with the accuracy of lines when they have all players listed but totally different lines to the NHL which in essence should not take that long really.
The ratings of players is also an issue and i guess as a consumer, would rather wait and get the correct up-to-date information as opposed to a rushed and totally wrong update.Comment

Re: Updated Online Rosters
but madden does this...
IF EA really cared about their customer they would update these more frequently and also allow for a way to edit your lines offline using their online roster download but giving you options for scratches and line updates.
this game is obviously big, but EA still lags in their customer care for NHL fans...STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

. last i checked i payed 60 bucks for this game and so far i have had 2 patches (improved the game both times) and 3 roster updates. i guess some folks just have to find things to complain about.

Re: Updated Online Rosters
EA has definitely earned my respect back. Ratings are off on a few players, but those are easily fixed yourself. 3 roster updates and 2 patches is a good start to a LONG consumer friendship with EA again.Comment

Re: Updated Online Rosters
Actually, rating fixes cant be edited for online play. As for offline play there are a few custom files out there that provide much more realistic player ratings and accurate lines.
I realise EA have made an improvement in updates/patches over last year but does that make it ok that it still receives less support than Madden or NBA games? IMO, no!! And its not just another thing to complain about but more of an issue that should be fixed for NHL10 or 11 so instead of rushing updates and patches out, actually test them first
