A cut scene, for most things, will never look as good as real time action. If someone gets hurt and is clinching often, I don't want cut scenes every 10 seconds. I want to see clinches broken in real time.

And cut scense can't be used for everything. The ref does stop the action with every interaction. I want to see a ref swat a glove, telling a boxer not to hold. I want to see him paying more attention to a hurt fighter. I want to see & hear him tell a hurt fighter he's going to stop the fight if he doesn't throw punches.

EA has been all style & little substance for quite some time, with the exception of FIFA & hockey(from what I hear). As good as the graphics are, I could care less about a graphical hit. IMO, smooth, varied animations do much more for looks than graphics. And from what I can tell, the punches still look quite stiff. Hell, I'd take a graphical hit for more fluid punching after seeing Ali's 1, 2.

Does seeing a ref really add that much to the game? Wiping a glove? Pulling two fighters apart? They dont even need a cutscene for breaks. They can just do it like they always have with a voice yelling "break" and the two fighters pulling apart from each other. Most people are happy with that.

What convinces me that this will be more substance than style isnt the trailer or previews or comments from the devs. Its the fact that 5 people here have played the game and loved it. There is also the fact that most of those 5 HATED FN3. So I'll trust their opinions.

Having a ref in any sports game doesnt really affect gameplay, its really just aesthetic.

Im not trying to defend the game, but how can some people think FNR3 was better looking visually? Just look at the color palette and lighting. FNR3 looked nice because the lighting and shadows were soo overdone. Kinda like a boxing version of 300. BTW game looks great.
I think that's the thing too. You add the ref and it's something more to process, taxing the framerate. If they have truly added a new physics system, where boxing is best represented, with inside fighting and proper collision detection, I'm willing to let go of there not being a ref in there.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I'm all about authenticity, but seeing a ref in the ring is the last thing that I'm concerned about. It would be cool, but it's not essential. It's just like basketball heads getting upset when their favorite player isn't wearing the right pair of sneakers. People will find reasons to hate on something if they want to. Round 4 looks like it's shaping up to be a very good game. Until you actually play it, I think it's a bit premature to speculate on whether the game is for you or not.

Oh yeah, has anything been said about the possible use of the camera for creating boxers?

For me? Yes, it would add a LOT. And I'm not concerned with what most people are happy with. Obviously their voices are being heard. I will only speak for myself. I'm not OK with the mystery voice yelling break. Many times fighters don't break until the ref gets physical. I want to see that.

I don't think that's the reason. I thikn the sole reason there isn't a ref in the ring is there wasn't enough time for them to properly implement one. It was low enough on their wish list not to make it. I'm pretty sure the UFC game has a ref and those graphics are outstanding too. I'd love to see a ref in the game and break clinches (which should be more frequent and organic), but first I need the boxing to be more natural and the game to be able to be played with semi-realistic boxing strategy.

But you still are going to buy the game, right? Cant mean that much to you if you still are going to buy it. I dont recall any of the FNs having refs and I'm sure you bought one or all of those. For example, I have a ton of features that are must haves for me. Prizefighter only allowed you to create 4 CABs, so I didnt buy it. The Show didnt add the ability to play other team's games in your franchise...so i didnt buy it until they added it. So if this is such a big omission, I'm sure you will show EA how you feel by not buying the game on June 30.

Cant really compare the two games. From everything I've seen, the UFC game has one arena. That tends to allow for more space to add things like refs. The last FN had 8 arenas and I bet this one has a few more. Still, I could care less about a ref.

I'm not really trying to argue with you... I know how you feel about refs from past threads lol. It's one of the few times i've seen your posts contain cuss words
And to be perfectly honest - I don't mind no ref in FN4 for the reasons I described above.

BUT, to me it's not about space. The UFC game actually has multiple arenas, with a fairly detailed crowd (i even saw the ring girls sitting in their proper seats) at least 80 fighters of 30,000 polygons each if I remember correctly, buffer, rogan, white are all probably rendered too plus the well-documented crazy amount of voice work in the game (and sound apparently takes up the most disk space).

Like I've said in previous posts - boxing is something that the dev team has to master the little nuances of the sport, which to me is more difficult than pretty much anything else. Because from what i understand they're really trying to nail that down and for them (and you) the ref was too low of a priority to put time into. I don't really mind either, especially if the boxing in thering is good.

Don't count me in for a 100 percent buy. If I play the demo and it feels like FN rd3 part 2 then I'm out.

Off topic...where did you see the multiple arenas confirmed in UFC?

I read it in an article, and could actually see in a few different snapshots that there was variation. I already owe you another link for something else, so I'll try to post both in the ufc section.

                            - still excited for both, I wonder when FN will ramp up the previews, vids etc..

I agree with BezO about the ref being in the game, they need to have one because they are involved in the boxing match period. If you are in trouble and are not punching back the refs gets real close and eye balling you, that's a sign either throw punches or I'm stopping the fight. Some refs let fighters clinch more then others, it adds some much more realism to the game. If you had a cut, the ref taking a look and stopping the fight, it's apart of boxing. I'm not going to not by the game if they don't have it, it's just something that is apart of boxing and something that's need to be implemented. You know give me a standing eight count by putting your fingers in my face. If your knocked down and he's counting, you know how they did the k'o moment, it should do ref moment in real time to first person and get up the same way you did in previous fight nights. Now I don't want no arcadey K'O moment before you are knock down, just when your on the canvas.
