Like I said before, the devs HEAVILY considered putting a ref in the ring. The reasons they did not were valid. You won't even notice or care after playing for a few minutes.

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Trailer - First Gameplay
You are seriously hilarious. According to you Prizefighter must've been the pinnacle of sports gaming due to having a referee in the ring. Just that one BRILLIANT example of authenticity sucked you into the awesome atmosphere that was Prizefighter.
Nevermind the choppy framerate, ugly motion captured punches, horrible collision detection, unresponsive controls, and the fact it didn't even remotely resemble real boxing.
No no .. the REFEREE is in the ring!! Yess!! Our dreams have come true.
You sir need to get your priorities checked. Every time i watch a boxing match (which is one of my favorite sports) i focus on the boxers, the strategy, the ebb and flow of a match, the sweet science for goodness sake. The ref is only there to make sure its a fair fight. Thats it.
This game according to the info leaked is bringing for the first time ever in a boxing videogame, innovation upon innovation. Your talking about everything being physics based with no clipping ever, gloves grazing over heads, getting tangled in opponents arms, real life sweet spots on the head and body, for the first time ever they'll be infighting, there will also be outfighting with reach strongly coming into play, extremely varied A.I. with realistic strategies, and finally the career mode all boxing fans have been waiting for, and it will allow us to implement our created charecters into our careers which will have organic rivalries. With alot more info to come.
And thats just what i remember off the top of my head. I have been feeening for a great american boxing game since holyfield boxing on the genesis back in 91. and you guys want to complain about a ref that is purely visual (don't believe me buy Prizefighter).
BezO i wish i knew ur gamertag so come June 30th i'd see for myself how u've eaten your words.
If your a true boxing fan, i dont see how anyone can deny the spectacularity that Fight NIght 4 seems to be.
And for the record I very very rarely buy EA sports games.Last edited by Vast; 03-13-2009, 04:25 PM."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Trailer - First Gameplay
im not going to look. My point is since you believe the Referee is the end all and be all of what boxing videogames are about. then u should be satisfied for the rest of your life with Prizefighter."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Trailer - First Gameplay
And for the record having a referee that looks just as good and has all the physics that the boxers have, and behaves like a real referee with perfect collision detection and pushes the boxers, wipes their gloves and all of that, that would be Awesome. No doubt.
But its just an unrealistic request that i believe wont be seen in this generation of consoles.
And in the large scheme of things has very, very, very, very, little to do with actual gameplay."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Trailer - First Gameplay
I wasn't just talking about you, it was this whole referee argument that i guess i directed at you. My bad.
I understand why people want it in the game, i just don't understand even bringing it up at this point when we have yet to receive a great boxing game here in the states.
I mean isn't gameplay what its all about?? This game is actually talking about great gameplay implementation and you guys want to complain about something that would bring authenticity to the game but it wouldn't add to the gameplay."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Personally I brought up the ref thing half joking, but the fact that we're even talking about having a ref in the ring is just funny, because there should be a ref visually in the ring regardless. I don't care how many years it's been since they haven't had 1, imo they should've had 1 in there from the beginning.
The fact that EA would rather have rippling slow motion skin and sweat droplets instead of a ref is just funny to me. The fact that guys defend it is even funnier.http://twitter.com/sageinfinite

Thats your opinion. and i believe your in the minority. Its similar to demanding a chain gang or Referee in football or basketball. Should they visually be in the game? Yeah. Would not being able to see them affect the way the game plays? No.Personally I brought up the ref thing half joking, but the fact that we're even talking about having a ref in the ring is just funny, because there should be a ref visually in the ring regardless. Im with A. Holbert on this i could give a flying **** if the ref is in the game. I dont watch boxing to watch the ref. I don't play boxing games to see the ref.
The game will have stoppages, the game will have breaks, there will be point deductions, and there will be someone counting for knockdowns."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment
