Re: Comparison Vid between Madden 10's new running animations and All Pro 2k8

I play HS football and I don't have full control. I can't turn 180 Degrees while in full sprint. I have to start chopping my feet and then plant my foot and point my toe. In 2k they do the same stuff. In madden, wel they turn 180 degrees.

I'm sure that last comment will be dissected but thumbs up to those who actually realize the difference.
I think in APF you actually have more control over your player. There are many many different kind of jukes. You have, the studder step, the spin, the stop on a dime, the studder step into a spin. You mess and throw combos on the right stick there are many many different possibilities. Not to mention when you do certain juke moves the defender has a chance to actually slip and fall himself.

I think there is more control. I just dont think people actually take the time to learn how to actually use the right stick in APF. There are some times i play online in APF that know how to use the right stick to the fullest.

Anyways, we will see. Show me, dont tell me.

Re: Comparison Vid between Madden 10's new running animations and All Pro 2k8

There's more control in what you can do... but what people are referring to here is response time between your input and what happens on the screen.

If I press left... and my guy is going left... and then I press right, this is what happens:

APF: Player has to take a couple of steps, slow down to plant, then build up acceleration in the other direction. This takes some time and makes people feel the controls are "sluggish" or "slow."

Madden: Player does a quick plant, turns and goes in another direction almost immediately. No momentum really plays into the equation... or at least "feels" that way.

It shouldn't be a big issue since in football you're typically going forward. But this omission allows players to move at will.

This should be glaringly obvious. It's frustrating when the consumer has to point this out to those making the game. But alas, some don't find it an issue. This has always been the Madden way.

I agree that 2k5's right stick was amazing. If madden tried to make their gameplay/physics like 2k without changing their own right stick up then the gameplay is going to suffer. If I hit a hole and only have 7-8 ways to move in comparison to 2ks 14-15 different moves...its self explainitory.

          EDIT:
I also agree that you cant really compare those two videos because the M10 video is mostly just running in circles. Where as the APF is alot of cuts and sudden stops.

            2. Anyone who says 2K football is stiff just hasn't played it enough. You can't run around crazily tapping the button because you have to slow down to set stuff up. How you move the stick is critical. When I play APF it feels like football to me. Ricky Waters doesn't run like Emmitt, and Emmitt doesn't run like Gale Sayers. You can definitely feel the difference. The players in APF have a "weight" that I'd like to see in Madden.

            3. When we're talking football and I hear the term acceleration, I'm thinking how quickly a guy reaches top speed. The mini debate on this was pretty funny.

            4. I've read through this whole thread and it's been pretty civil. It's good stuff like this continues to get discussed because the developers need to know what we want.

            5. Developers underestimate the average gamer. If they make it realistic and it's a good game, people will play it. Arcade games have their place, but the majority of NFL fans want their games to be as true-to-life as possible. No need to cater to the Madden Nation types. If they're truly nice they'll adapt to a sim. If not they'll move on to Halo or cheating in checkers.
1st let me say "Good Lawd" at your avatar!

2nd All good points and im glad you argee with my football physics! LOL

He thanks for the info. I read every post in this thread and it all sounds the same like every other "this vs. that" thread. Thanks for the input

This is another waste of time thread. I started watching the vid and YES it's a great vid of animations between Madden and 2k. But, that vid is showing Madden 10 running in circles. Until you see M10 running zig zags up and down the field you CAN NOT compare the two.

AP does THE best job at animations and the overall feel of running, juking, foot planting that I have ever seen. BUT, unless you show a vid of AP players running in circles then we CAN NOT compare the two.

This thread is going NO WHERE fast! Can we please put an end to the maddness.

Speaking of Maddness... Did anyone see the FSU v. Wis & OSU v. Siena games? WOW! I love MM. That stands for March Madness not Madden Mania.

                Sorry got off track.

I have an idea. Mods please close this before it gets ugly.
If the thread was going nowhere we wouldn't see Ian of EA commenting on it in his twitter. I don't see anything wrong with driving home a point. The thread is serving its purpose. For those of you who are sick of reading the comparisons just move on to another thread that interests you.

Some people fail to realize that not everyone sees EVERY thread on these forums. Of course some people may miss the discussion in a previous thread. Again, nothing wrong with driving home a point.

the right thumbstick in 2K5 was way ahead of its time, and you can string together so many moves, it's insane!

Keep in mind I have never played any 2K Sports football game and I going off of what other people say.

I think the best system is to use 2K right stick which (if im not mistaking) control cuts ,jukes etc. and couple that with a button that provides a burst.

I was in the same boat as you until about a week ago. I was getting sick of always seeing the comparisons everywhere, and vids on U Tube, so went to my local Gamestop, and found a copy of NFL 2k5 for ONE DOLLAR...!!! I couldn't believe it only cost a buck. I also picked up a copy of APF2k8 for like $10, just to make sure I had all my bases covered.

I no longer wonder what all the complaining an comparisons are all about. 2k had it down pat. I spend as much time watching the damn replays as I do actually playing the games, because I just can't believe how great the animations and player interactions are in those games. Just the line play alone on something as simple as an extra point is miles and miles ahead of anything I've seen in Madden.

As far as some of you thinking the gameplay may become sluggish if it becomes more realistic, just think about what you're saying. Right now playing Madden is like playing a Need for Speed (arcade style racing game), and 2k football games feel like playing Forza Motorsports, or Gran Turismo. I don't know about you, but I definitely know the cars in the later handle much more sluggishly..... and they are supposed to. That's because they are meant to feel realistic, as claiming to be a racing sim.

I hope Ian is taking a real hard look at 2k5. If he can make M10 even approach the presentation level, at least a little, and give us that true "sim" style of football gameplay, he'll have a classic on his hands.

I've always been a loyal Madden player, and I want to stay that way.

This video made me put All Pro back in for the first time in months.

you owe it to yourself (and others here) to play a 2k football game

This pretty much sums up my hopes too.

It would be fantastic it Madden '10' matched 2K5 in overall presentation. But honestly, if Ian & Co could even get somewhere close this year...along with the much more sim like game play their speaking of, I'd be thrilled.

Re: Comparison Vid between Madden 10's new running animations and All Pro 2k8

Nice video...made me think of a few things....

                                1) 2K games running animation in both 2K5 and 2K8 (not the cutting or turns or balance but the actual running animation) was HORRIBLE!! That idiotic looking sway from the hips and shoulders is gawd-awful and it is IDENTICAL for all players - Earl Campbell and OJ Simpson may "feel" different on the game, but they LOOK the same and I always found that extremely distracting.

Give the transition animations and turns and slips to 2K hands down, no questions asked, but the running animation itself is much better in Madden - though as others have pointed out in this thread, Madden/NCAA still has a long ways to go itself in that area. Being better than gawd-awful is hardly what I think they are shooting for this year...

                                2) While the video comparison was fascinating to watch, I think there was a better comparison clip on EA Sports World from Ian that highlights the direction of the player locomotion (and how Madden 10 is looking an awful lot closer to AP2K8 that Madden 08). That clip was the revamped WR route running. I don't know how to cross link the clip itself, but if you haven't already checked it out recently - go have a look (or second look or third or whatever) at = http://insideblog.easports.com/archi...teraction.aspx

The one thing I get really excited seeing in that video is that the way the WR is running routes (and how the DB is either jumping the route or trailing the route) looks far superior to the existing Madden and NCAA animations. The added player weight and physics in that WR video is readily apparent and should bring a whole new feel and flavor to Madden 10 that players should recognize immediately.

I am waiting and hoping that a future Ian blog closer to the releases of the games is going to highlight a drastically different OL-DL interaction to go with the WR-DB changes, the QB-FB handoff changes, and the QB dropback/throwing changes. IF the game has all of that and adequate atmospheric/presentation additions, I am quite sure people would still bitch about it still - that is the actual American way after all, but I believe many people here and at other boards would be very pleased with it.
