    The Coaching Career of Ithacus

Whatup Dynasty HQers, been lurking here for awhile reading people's stuff, and I enjoy everything thats been written. I'll get around to commenting soon. I decided to try my hand at my own dynasty on here now that my x-box has been fixed.

    System: X-Box
    Game: NCAA Basketball 09
    Difficulty: All-American
Sliders: Roadlesstrvld4's (adjusted them a bit)
Rules: Out-of-state recruits cannot be rated higher than the current school prestige level, just to make it interesting. Also, the collective bargaining agreement was altered so that NBA prospects need 4 years of college before they can leave.

Rutgers University, New Jersey- Reports indicate that Rutgers basketball head coach Fred Hill Jr. has been fired as the season approaches and replaced with a shadowy figure known as Ithacus. Coach Ithacus has has no known coaching experience, no known last name, and has seemingly appeared out of thin air. While investigations are pending, it is a new era of Rutgers basketball. Fans are confused, annoyed, and possibly excited.

        Season Outlook
Rutgers University, New Jersey- Even under the new found guidance of mysterious stranger Coach Ithacus, Rutgers is still picked by most major media outlets to finish last in the Big East. A youthful team, Rutgers is likely to struggle this year, despite a comfortable non-conference schedule. Rutgers will head to Marist to take on the Red Foxes in the season opener and coaching debut of Coach Ithacus. One of the reasons many Rutgers fans are excited for this season, is the signing of their first All-American, guard Mike Rosario, who arrived on campus this fall ready to help take Rutgers to the next level. Watch for him to make an immediate impact on this depleted Rutgers squad.

Poughkeepsie, NY- In a defensive-minded struggle, Rutgers won its first game of the season on the road against Marist. Both teams played a slow, half-court game and Rutgers dominated inside, blocking 10 shots, and holding the Red Foxes to just 42% shooting for the game. Hamady N'Diaye was a big factor, with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, offsetting 14 points from Marist big man Ryan Schneider. Mike Rosario had 15 points in his debut, on only 5-18 shooting, but iced the game down the stretch with 4 key free throws. "We played really well today, especially defensively." Coach Ithacus said in a press conference after the game "Winning on the road in college basketball is always difficult, this is a great start for our team." The Scarlet Knights will return home to New Jersey tonight and prepare for tomorrow's home game against Delaware.

Piscataway, New Jersey- After returning home from beating Marist on the road, the Scarlet Knights promptly returned home and were crushed by the Delaware Blue Hens. Delaware's stingy defense caused problems for Rutgers from the start, forcing 13 first half turnovers and 19 for the game. Delaware's up-tempo offense got off to a fast start in the first half cruising out to a 20 point lead in a game that was never really close. Although Rutgers stepped up defensively in the second half, turnovers and a horrific shooting performance (38% FG for the game) kept the game from ever getting closer than 14 points. Rutgers managed only 16 points after halftime. The Delaware balanced attack was lead by D.J. Boney who had 16 points. Chandler was the high-scorer for Rutgers with 12. The Scarlet Knights will have a nearly two week break to prepare for their next game, when Robert Morris comes to Rutgers.

            Rutgers Scarlet Knights 60
            C Hamady D'Niaye- 8 Points, 8 Rebounds, 2 Blocks (4/7 FG)
            PF J.R. Inman- 6 Points, 2 Rebounds, 5 Blocks (2/4 FG)
SF Jaron Griffin- 0 Points, 1 Assist, 2 Steals (0/2 FG)
SG Corey Chandler- 12 Points, 2 Assists (6/10 FG)
PG Mike Rosario- 8 Points, 2 Assists, 1 Steal (2/8 FG)

            C Gregory Echenique- 10 Points, 2 Assists, 1 Block (4/12 FG)

            Delaware Blue Hens 81
            C Jim Ledsome- 5 Points, 8 Rebounds (2/6 FG)
            PF D.J. Boney- 16 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Steals (8/14 FG)
SF Marc Egerson- 8 Points, 8 Rebounds (3/8 FG)
SG Alphonso Dawson- 11 Points, 2 Assists (5/8 FG)
PG Brian Johnson- 8 Points, 2 Assists, 6 Steals (4/11 FG)

PF Brian Young- 10 Points, 5 Rebounds (5/9 FG)

I'm scrapping these sliders for the next game and seeing how that works out. I felt like it was a little too hard to score in this one, layups kept rolling off the rim and such.

Piscataway, NJ- Rutgers rebounded from an ugly loss to Delaware by defeating Robert Morris at home. Rutgers trailed the Colonials by 3 at halftime, but put on a big second-half run to distance Robert Morris and gain a comfortable victory. In a slow-paced game where both teams shot the lights out, the Scarlet Knights were able to do just a little bit more and pulled away. Mike Rosario lead Rutgers with 17 points to combat 16 points from Robert Morris standout Gary Wallace. "I thought our team played very well today" Coach Ithacus said in a statement to the press "Our defense lagged a little bit, but our offense really caught fire and carried us through. Mike was great today, the things he can do as a freshman are astounding." The Scarlet Knights have about a week off before they face St. Bonaventure at home.

PG Velton Jones- 2 Points, 2 Assists (1/2 FG)

This was alright, but a little but too high FG%, I'm thinking I'll go back to the sliders, but adjust them a little bit.

                    Recruiting Update
Excitement builds in the Rutgers fanbase as Coach Ithacus has nabbed both of his top recruiting targets this week. Rutgers has four scholarships in all to offer this year, and with the two immediate needs out of the way, Coach Ithacus is free to pursue high-profile targets or save the scholarships for next year. Lets take a look at the current recruiting targets:

                    PF Victor Crabtree
                    Rating: ***
                    Status: Signed with Rutgers
Description: A 6'7" 3-star power forward from West Orange, New Jersey, Crabtree is the 792nd ranked player in this year's senior class. An offensive-minded big man, Crabtree will help to fill in the gap left by the departing J.R. Inman next year.

                    PG Richard Donaldson
                    Rating: ***
                    Status: Signed with Rutgers
Description: Donaldson is a 6'0" point guard from Newark, New Jersey, the 756th ranked player in his class. Donaldson will see some time backing up and playing along side Mike Rosario next year after Anthony Farmer graduates.

                    C Theo Winslow
                    Rating: *****
                    Status: Very Low Interest
Considering: Michigan is Theo's top target, while he is also considering DePaul, Maryland, Marquette, Ohio State, and Pacific.
Description: After bagging his early recruiting targets, Coach Ithacus is attempting to bring a high-profile recruit to Rutgers. Winslow is a 7'3" defensive force in the Thabeet mold, although his offensive skills are developing. He hails from Princeton, New Jersey and is the likely candidate for Mr. Basketball in the state. Winslow is the 65th ranked senior in his class, #13 among centers.

Piscataway, NJ- Rutgers dominated St. Bonaventure in the second half to pull out a double-digit victory. The game decided that I needed to get f***ed over at least once this season, so it simmed through the Lehigh game and Rutgers got crushed by 30 at home. Thank god for the wonderful autosave feature though. Just in case you press the wrong button and mess something up, it will always be there to instantly permanantly save your mistake.

Jersey City, NJ- Rutgers dominated St. Peters from the opening tip, and quickly took the fans out of the game. The Scarlet Knights played their most complete game of the season as of yet, imposing their will on the Peacocks on both ends of the floor. Rutgers held St. Peters to 42% shooting for the game, while shooting a season high 55% themselves. "We just came out firing from the opening tip" Coach Ithacus commented after the game "Our offense really clicked." Freshman Mike Rosario broke out in the best performance of his young career, dropping 27 points, 5 assists and a pair of steals on 11/18 shooting. Wesley Jenkins had a team-high 12 for the Peacocks. The Scarlet Knights have a week off before they begin a harrowing gauntlet of three games in three nights beginning with a trip to Rider University.
