Come on now... they aren't going to add all of this stuff and sacrifice 60fps. It's just not going to happen, I wouldn't worry.

      NCAA Football 10: Pocket Protection

Quick note before I get into the shots below; this is not the official post for NCAA Football 10 this week. Expect another drop of information really soon.
Hey NCAA Football Fans I wanted to jump in and show some work being done with the Offensive/Defensive Line play. Rather than just a bunch of stuff I read, figured it would be better to post some shots and comment a little on each one.

Well there you have it, a full pocket. You can see that both Offensive Tackles (OT) were able to ride the Defensive Ends (DE) or Linebackers (LB) out wide behind the Quarterback (QB) instead of just standing them straight up. This year we are giving the Tackles the ability to take a Defensive End wide around the QB in a realistic fashion.
First look at the right side of the line:

Here is a close up view of the LB being strung out wide by an OT; you can see the body lean as the LB is trying to get around the OT using a speed rush. Instead of being pushed once or twice and standing still you’ll notice the interaction between the OT and DE (or LB) play out in a more natural sequence.

Now let’s take a look at the other side of the line and the different rush style:

This example is showing an attempt to use a bull rush and muscle his way to the QB; however the OT is able to keep the DE at bay. And like on the other side of the line push him out wide to help create that pocket from the first screen shot.
All the above shots are from the same play to give an example of how things are progressing on the NCAA Football 10 game-play front. And before you ask this does mean we are working on the ability of the Defensive Line to get to the QB as well:

The edge rusher in this case was able to make a move back inside. Sorry to ruin the suspense… it ended in a sack.
We are still in the process of working how often the defender vs. the offensive line will win. Like how much does Finesse Moves factor against Pass Block Footwork? Or how often will AI defenders attempt special moves? And a number of other tuning issues. It is a high priority to the team right now to ensure our line play is balanced on both sides of the ball.
That is all for today... Check back in a few days for this week’s NCAA Football 10 Blog.

I like the fact that superbowl patches are a yearly thing in franchise mode

Actually they have all the players wearing adams helmets for some reason.......... I think they are going to go through every player and get their equipment right because one of the players somehow has an adams helmet with a revolution facemask.

I feel left out, I know nothing about facemasks. NOTHING.

We're waiting a little longer to unveil some of the real nitty-gritty details and tech behind OL/DL interaction (because it's still very much in progress), but at least with them dropping this now, it should confirm to you all that we are definitely not going to let this area go untouched...we are hoping to make major strides here just like so many other areas.

In short, it might be a while before you get more detail on how it all works...but now you all can at least know it is very high on our list.

Wow all this looks so great!!!! I cant believe how many improvements they are making to the game and it is still MARCH!!! This development team is really setting a standard for how much can be done to a game in ONE year. I am as optimistic as it gets when it comes to Madden but even I did not think they could turn this game into something great in just one year. These guys are flat out amazing at what they do.

Anyone else notice that over the last week they have started giving out much more information and more open to answering questions? Between the blogs, the developers Twitters and just their random posts in answering questions things are starting to really open up. That is HUGE news for the weeks and months ahead.

Question: If we play an exhibition game with say the steelers vs. giants and pick Arrow Head stadium as a neutral site. Will it still show chiefs endzones or will they dynamically change ala the Superbowl style? Or can we pick the superbowl stadium to have that effect in exhibition?

What I would do if this hasn't been done already, is take the most recognizable players in the NFL (Top players at their positions and work my down) and make sure those guys have their nameplate names right. Then after the most recognizable players are complete, I'd start working my way down to the grunt players.

If the 3rd string Linebacker for the Bengals has the nameplate name wrong I won't care and probably wouldn't even be paying attention, or may not even know what it's supposed to look like. But if Ray Lewis's is wrong, I'm going to notice that immediately.

So top players first, then trickle down.
                    Great post!

I totally agree here. It was very frustrating a few years ago when Madden showed Brady's jersey as "T. BRADY" because Kyle Brady was their TE. I know some players have had that spelled out, but really that's what the numbers are for, IMO. This shouldn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things, but it is very noticeable on the top tier players...

Know what would be cool? If from now until the end of development Michael could post a short blog with a picture of one high profile player from each team. Although the art team is clearly doing a great job, the community might have suggestions on some of the big name players like they did with Ben which could help improve the realism in the model and the jerseys. I'd hate for Big Ben to be the only one to get the "special treatment" and not any others. Although I'm sure they're constantly tweaking them anyway.

I believe so, Im still wondering how this is going to work.

"Teams will wear Super Bowl patches on their jerseys for the big game, whether you are reliving Super Bowl XLIII or in year 30 of your franchise."

Im wondering if that means a madden moment or the ability to take any exhibition match and replay it in last years superbowl or the ability to start your franchise from last year or what but its cool either way.

As of last yeat in the nfl they removed any first initials from players with the same name. Goodell said that the numbers are how to differentiate the players so now all players with the same name on their jersey will go unchanged and have the exact same nameplate as the other players on the field with the same last name.

                              Great great blog!

New features I notices from the pic that were not mewntioned in this thread yer are...

Eye black- If you look at the 2nd shot of Big Ben, he is wearing eye black.

Chin Straps- The chin straps are animated, if you look at Ben's helmet, he has enough strap sticking out to grab and pull down (unsnapping it). Just my opinion...but I certainly feel as if they animate in some way.

Dynamic lighting- If you look at the pic of Ben, you can see they have added an all new dynamic lighting system of some kind. The way the light functions within the interactive environment is unlike anything I've ever seen in Madden before...and I'm not talking about DOF either.

Jerseys- I swear the jerseys are animated to some kind of a degree, I could have sworn I saw an actual piece of a shoulder pad in the 1st screenshot. Well, based on this one I'm fairly certain that the jerseys will have some kind of ability to move.

I am completely blown away with the level of detail, and the broadsweeping scope & scale at which this design team has approach this years version of the game. Not onlty will we see a Madden that truely represents Next-Gen, we will see a video game that sets the bar for gaming standards well beyond the sporting genre.

We all come to these forums to talk, communicate, and share ideas. We all have hopes for what we think this game can become. We all have a vision, a idealogical concept of what we eventually want Madden NFL to be.

In the past, we all have had to come away with our heads down saying "Maybe next year." In the past, we all have come away with our hopes dashed saying "Maybe, next year will be the year."

Ladies & gentlemen, I am so happy to honestly say...this year is THE year. That game we all haved hoped to get...is finally in the making...and we all have been able to contribute (no matter how great or small) in its inception.

                              To the Dev. Team-

Thank you, thank you for hearing our voice & acting on the things we have communicated. Thank you for taking this great game back to its roots, and restoring our confidence in you & rewarding our (at times tough) love for this game with the greatest edition in its history.

Thank you for putting up with our complaining, bickering, and ill tempered rants. But more importantly, thank you for being able to take criticism & at times harshly pointed frustrations (no matter if they were valid or not).

Its been fun getting to know you guys (to the extent that we have), and good luck on the completion of what is shaping up to be the defining next-gen title to date. Your hard work is apprecaited.

                              Sincerely,
                              Izzy-
