Hey guys - We're heading out to LA in a couple of weeks to record with Marv and Steve. Just wondered if you guys had any thoughts on what new stuff you'd like to hear from them this year? Also, are there things in the game that you're tired of hearing and would like to get a refresh? Any other audio, like arena sound effects, you want?

something that bothers me is that every arena has the same free throw sound. If you could it would be nice to have that changed. Maybe the actual free throw sound that the team uses or none at all if they don't have one. Also the buzzers from different arenas would also be nice. I would just like to hear authentic sounds in every arena. I would love for you to get some organ music for msg and the wachovia center.

the DEEEE-TROIT BASKETBALL chant during big defense plays and detroit's entrance music song - ' Final Countdown' and more information about star players and not the same line everytime the same player go to the line b/c after hearing the same line over and over it starts to get annoying and i thought there was going to be new announcers with marv since kerr is the general manager of the suns

what about craig sager as a sideline reporter just like cheryl miller in NBA 2k9 talking to coaches and reporting it after halftime don't the sideline reporters get some love in live 10

If you watch and listen to a game Marv calls he gives the score and time left very frequently. Might add a nice touch if he did this during the game some.<O</O

I really dislike how Kerr announces almost ever time you change defensive sets. Every now and then is ok but less frequent. Maybe if something has to be said there could be a few lines about the real differences in defenses.<O</O

Maybe add a couple different saying for when there is a bad shot. I think there's only like 2 now.

Drop the line were Kerr and Marv talk about how they've "had this problem ever since we've been broadcasting together" or at least the awkward laughter afterward.

Please add something else for Marv to say about David West other than the line about him boxing in the off-season.

<O</OI guess the trick is if you can only have one line for a player no line may be better.

Marv asks Kerr about when Kerr played with Shaq in Orlando and Kerr's response doesn't match up. He talks about Shaq in general terms and it doesn't seem to match up, to me anyway.

Why doesn't Marv ever say "Yes, and it counts" or just "Yes" during the game. If he does I don't remember it.

Marv always says something about a player "making it back" from whatever injury. It would be cool if you could match that with the updates since you guys are all over the injury thing.

You should have an unlockable where Marv pauses after a Kerr comment and says "will you just shut up"

Ok I'm reaching now.

Tired of hearing, the constant talk about Kobe wanting to be traded and his father jelly bean Joe Bryant..I mean come on he's been in the league over 12 years and they are still talking about that.

Talk about how he's leads the team now, has matured and jumped over a car in his commercial lol. Talk about how him and Shaq after going different directions, seem to come together for the 2009 All-Star game and won Co-MVP.

I like how in the competitions games, they have different stadium announcers with authentic calling of players names and how they turnover the ball etc. The noises and tons of different types when you hit a free throw in Detroit is different than when you hit one in Dallas, etc.

Also when coming into the stadium during the beginning of the game, it would be nice to see their intro on the jumbo tron, instead of coming through the back Sprite hallway. And to make it where it won't be dumb like the 2k intro's after someone gets traded to another team. Use the players flashes or images using the player models in the game. That would be sick. Authentic intro's and stadium intro music. Never been done, and you'll be the first.

Sideline reporter would be nice and please let her be hot! Also to touch it up a bit, put a animated Kerr or Marv at the table on the floor as if they were actually there. That would be siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!

Ohh my God I jus had to re-type everything I put in the 1st time cus my session time-out....I am so mad I have to do this again AArrgghh!!

I hope I don't leave anything out that I had in here before...oh well here we go.

First off I am happy that you guys are asking us these questions and I will be even more thrilled to see this stuff implemented into the game so I can tell my friends "yeah that was my idea" loll But seriously because I have always had a dream of making my own B-ball game and I just cant see how some of this stuff isn't already in the game

1st thing is the CROWD
The crowd is one of the most important things to make sure u nail in any sports game. True die-hard fans of sports that play these games cannot be happy with how they sound. I think for one, and I don't think this would be hard to do is differentiate between a exhibition crowd, to regular season sounding crowd, to a playoff atmosphere crowd. To this day I have yet to see any game replicate this, the crowds are either not loud enough or just too loud from the start (2k9) Nailing the true NBA crowd atmosphere should be just as important as it is in the NCAA games. I should here more chants and hecklers. Another realistic thing you guys could add would be to have the tough arenas to play in be a little louder than the pushover teams, cus Staples crowd is loud, Utah crowd should be loud, where as New Jersey barely has anybody in the stands and their crowd shouldn't be as loud. I think every time we start a new game there should be a different atmosphere, depending on game mode, rival teams playing, close game, blow-out game. Another thing is we should be able to pump up the crowd if were trying to comeback in a game, the crowd would stand up and cheer. I think you guys should go to different playoff games in different arenas and record the sounds from live action. I hate when sports games try to make their own artificial sounding crowds. Another thing is maybe if a player does a killer crossover or dunk or make a tuff shot the crowd can have their Ooohs and Ahhs, makes it seem like they've experienced something they've never seen or that move was sick feeling.

2nd is the players and coaches
In the NBA players show emotion and we should be able to hear that emotion. I was at the Bulls vs. Heat game last nite, when Tyrus caught the Oop from Rose over D. Wade he let out a primal sounding scream, we should be able to hear that in the game, or if a player has an emphatic block we should hear him say "Get that weak stuff outta here" Another idea is when a timeout is called, you should have more of a presentation style like ESPN and TNT, They have WIRED and INSIDE TRAX where you hear the coaches talking to the players explaining and saying, "hey guys were getting killed on the board, we need to box out" or "Are you guys gonna show-up or what" Or "Good job contain penetration" Jus something to make it sound more realistic.

3rd is Arena sounds
Have specific sounds for every specific arena. I should be able to close my eyes and be able to tell which arena Im in. The Garden has the Bass drums and Organ, Staples has its own sound, Detroit has their horn whistle when they hit a 3, the Pacers have their Race Car sounds, the Bulls have their own arena music they play too. Hornets have the WOOOO sound every time Chris Paul scores.....You get the point.
4th Presentation sounds
Now I know EA spent allot of money on the ESPN license, but you guys don't use it right. Look at what NBA 2k4 did when they had the license. They had the game presented by them(ESPN), you heard the espn theme music. At halftime you here it, during highlights. They even had the score overlays with ESPN logos. We know EA made NBA live, it doesn't need to be displayed everywhere you know. We don't watch the "real" games on EA channels we watch it on ESPN. And from what I see currently, All you guys do with the license is give us "yesterdays" sports updates in the Academy. Why not use it for all its worth. Couldn't hurt and it will give NBA live 10 a fresh new look and sound if you implement it correctly. Now I know Marv and Steve Kerr (who is now a GM) are typically on TNT, but who cares.

5th PA announcer
OMG I have been playing live since 95' and as of I wanna say Live 98' you guys have had the same PA announcer. If you guys cant give us authentic PA announcer (I know getting all of them is unrealistic, but at least give us a couple) LA Lakers PA announcer would be great for LA, Pistons would be great in Detroit. But if that's not possible, then at least just give us a new default guy. I mean I've been hearing his voice since this game was on Play Station. It cant be that hard to do. Quit recycling old stuff please

Well that's it, I hope to see some of this stuff in the game cus we customers deserve the best ultimate hoops game especially since we have been robbed for the past couple years. Take note of what 2k does...Im telling you the "little things" make BIG differences.

This is great stuff guys. We've already added a few new things in our scripts. Keep the ideas coming.

As for MVP chants, they should still be in and trigger when the player's at the freethrow line. Has anybody heard this in Live 09? I hope it didn't break.

We'll capture a bunch of new player specific lines this year to get some more relevant info in the game. I'll get the Jellybean line pulled. I agree, Kobe's accomplished so much over the past decade that there's better things to talk about for him.

I was talking to our Sound Artist yesterday and we're planning on reviewing our ramp up audio. Right now it ramps up in the last two minutes of a close game. But, we'd like to get it playing in more situations. Glad to know we're on the same page with that one.

Melman - Sweet post. We just worked with the NBA to record that last Phoenix - Cleveland game and we're going to be pulling a lot of crowd cheers and murmers from there. We definitely want to give this a little freshen up.

I'm curious to know more specific arena specific sounds (ie. Detroit sound when they hit a 3). The more specific the better. We have a few of these, but not many.

As for player speech. I've started going through some stuff from the last NBA Street to see if we can use anything from their game that'll give us what you're hoping to hear.

Please have Marv and Steve record more banter back and forth for Live10.

Alot of times in Live09, I can go SEVERAL possessions without them saying a word. I mean, they both just go silent and act like there is nothing to talk about.

You guys can have them record random thoughts, that do not even have to be relevant to the action going on during the game.

Some examples:

-have them talk about the state of the NBA
-historic games at the arena/city that they are calling the game from
-other sports team's that play in the city
-how the crowd is reacting or not reacting/responding to the action
-lack of fan support for a particular team
-they can comment on the fan attendance at the game they are calling
-player comparisons ie;
-conversations about who in the league you would build your team around if you had to pick 1 player
-who do they think is the best player in the league/at their positions
-talk about different players in the league in general
-what players/teams/matchups they are looking forward to covering in the future

Also have them acknowledge holidays during season mode games.


They just need to record ALOT more lines, so that there is rarely instances where you forget they are doing the telecast.

The audio 'quality' in Live is Unbelievable! If I close my eyes and just listen to Steve and Marv, their commentary sounds just like real life broadcasts.

You guys just need to up the 'quantity' on the amount of lines they record for Live10.

That why I'm suggesting adding MUCH more generalized conversations between them, to fill the void during games when there is little action.

For speeches I would like to see some speech implemented for Dynasty mode especially with people doing multi season dynasties.

Generic announcements for players and rookies saying things like: (for a small but effective touch)


Last year’s rookie of the year and am looking for bigger things from this player this season……<o></o>


Last year’s slam dunk champion with a tremendous jumping ability and athletic display be sure he'll entertain the crowds on fast breaks during his career.<o></o>


Last year’s 3pt champion showing why he was the 3pt champion shooting his 4th 3 pointer tonight…… etc

Marv and Kerr saying things like ____ __________ had an outstanding rookie season or strong rookie season or a surprising rookie season for players with low ratings but had some decent stat games during the season.

Or have them say things like they talked to ___ ______ and they felt they didn't have the season they were hoping for and have worked hard over the off season to improve and strengthen their game.

General Speech
One thing I reckon you'll have to change is Steve Kerr's "Last time he hit 2 free throws a democrat was in office" speech line.

I would like to see in depth emotion to like a late rally game or a tight game in the dying minutes as someone mentioned or when a big shot is made, Marv and Kerr just generally really on do a "they were down by 20 and have come within 8 points". Maybe apply some "the Grizzlies have been struggling the last 2 minutes offensively allowing for the Heat to catch up and threaten to take the lead and steal the game for a win".

Maybe include like after half time coaches comments with Marv saying he spoke to coach ______ ____________ and he felt they need to get more aggressive on the boards or lacked the defense they are known for.
