It is not the same engine.

All next gen Maddens were built from the ground up.

It is one of Ian's biggest regrets that they did not port the Madden engine directly from the PS2/Xbox versions and build upon them on the new consoles.

It has taught them a valuable lesson though, Ian said, that being that when the next next generation of consoles arrive they will no way start building a new engine again, but stick with this one. Only constantly refining it as the new hardware allows.
