    Re: Madden 10 Trailer impressions

Unfortunately player movement looked just like last year's plus I didn't really see a pocket forming at least not the way I was expecting. Did you notice the center was always just standing there by himself looking like he had to take a dump?

And what's up with Parker breaking out of a 2 man tackle like that?

Agreed that the Madden guys need a new trailer. I remember Monday Phil commented that they had a new blog ripe with videos but couldn't use it because they promised GTTV the exclusive Madden footage reveal. I'm hoping that blog comes out on Monday and stops the bleeding.

          Re: Madden 10 Trailer impressions

After reading Adem and Kane's post as well as being impressed by the NCAA trailer I am positive that what we saw in the trailer is not what we are going to see come August. Just watching the NCAA trailer should be assuring b/c that trailer was impressive and Madden is normally equal or better in terms of animations.

              Re: Madden 10 Trailer impressions

Not sure if anyone caught this, but in the fumble pile up clip, an Arizona Defensive lineman pushed Big Ben and Ben responds with the animation calling for a flag for personal foul for unnecessary roughness.

While this is an early look, I sure hope the pile ups for fumbles are better than the one shown in the video. The clip looked like a minor pileup and not the dog pile we are used to on Sundays where officials have to pull players off and the players stand around pointing that it is their ball and then go ape when it is. This was like 3 players and two wrestling and two cards doing more of a "we got a first down" type of celebration.

I guess you could say i liked hat i saw, but wasn't terribly impressed either.

In regards to the pile up tackles, this left me yet again with a feeling of "abou ****ing time" more than excitement. While playing Madden 02 on my NGC my friend and I were talking about how it was about time we got some gang tackling and expect to see it in 03 or we would be mad. We got 2 man gang tackling in 03... and it has been only two man gangtackling ever since then. 7 games (03, 03, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09) have all been two man gang tackling. It really took this longto figure out and apply more than two players in a gang tacklign system?

Am I glad we have it? Yes.
Am I upset it took this long? of cource.

To Ian, I can explain how happy I am to see all the improvements for madden 10, butI cannot help but get the feeling of "about ****ing time" over and over again when I see these improvements. I cannot really get up and jump for joy like i see others do as often because of this. Also, I really fear that these improvements are still going to take a year or two to really kink out anyway. I'm buying M10, I'm just not super pumped for it either.

                Re: Madden 10 Trailer impressions

Just watched the Madden 10 Wii trailer: EA really has some problems. I understand they're going for a cartoony look (because it's the Wii). But, the player models aren't even a "good" cartoony. They look distorted. Frankly, they look like ****.

Ian set hisself up with saying that he doesnt want to be compared to 2K5 anymore. He's the one that thinks his game is going to be better then that game. 2009, it should almost by default be better then a game that was released on the xbox/ps2 on weaker hardware.

Like i said, its easy to talk the talk, but if you cant back up your talking you get knocked out.

First of all I play APF 2K8. 2K5 was still better than any Madden so far but APF is better than any football game that has come out. If you need proof just look at the comparison post. Have you played APF? If you did you wouldn't be talking as if the running animation are like Madden LOL.....

Madden has the most robotic player movement in a video game since contra.

Gang tackling looked pretty good. Nice to see the ref on the field and the crowd actually looked alive.
Now the ugly part, the running animation as many have already mentioned, looked very robotic and stiff. And are little running backs gonna be breaking gang tackles regularly?

LOL Then EA shouldn't have taken the NFL/ESPN licenses and done NOTHING with them. Thank God EA did not acquire Take-Two...

APF 2K8 is the most realistic "on-field" simulation of football. Even-so, 2K5 is still the best overall packaged football game ever made. If EA wants to stop the comparisons, then either:

                          A) Finally port over all the features/modes Madden NFL 2005 had to the next-gen versions!!!! My God, we still haven't gotten a proper Owner mode! In Madden 2001, you ported over the basics: Exhibition, Season, Franchise and improved game play/graphics. 2002, EA throws in all kinds of stuff to elevate the franchise.

Madden 06, was a basic port: Exhibition, Season, Franchise and improved graphics, but the game play was butchered. No in-depth defensive adjustments, broken QB Vision Cone, etc. 07 rolls around and you would expect something similar to what happened last-gen: the first game to port over the basics of the series, then the next game to put all the features back in and build upon that.

But when 07 finally comes around, we get no owner mode, no improvements to presentation, no improvements to online, create-a-playbook hiatus for several years (this was in the PS1 games, folks...), no CPU vs CPU matches, etc. Just another bare-bones game featuring a roster update.

                          OR

                          B) They can release the exclusive NFL License, which would IN FACT BENEFIT THEM by allowing competition to drive their product to new heights.

Wow, a whole lot of rant and gibberish up there. I am tired, it's 4am. Sorry, lol.

Long day today - up early and demo'ed Madden 10 to a TON of press people from 10 to 4. It was good to meet a lot of folks I hadn't really talked to much before like Brian Ekberg from Gamespot, PastaPadre, and Chris from NCAA Strategies (and many many more people that I will have to check back in my contact list to remember their names). The game showed pretty well (I believe) - we are holding a ton of stuff back until E3 so I felt really hamstrung with what we could show today, but just the PRO-TAK tech alone really wowed a ton of people...so that was encouraging. After an event like this it's a good reminder to all the tuning we still have to do as a few things were still 'cringe-worthy' (as I call them), but all in all I think the reactions were quite positive even we were showing what I believe was an extremely limited demo.

Speaking of PRO-TAK, it is going to be on display in the video on GTTV tonight, so I can't wait for you guys to see it. I am dead for tonight and have a ton of stuff booked tomorrow so I don't know if I'll be on after the video displays, but I look forward to you all picking apart everything as usual and finding the good and bad. You'll see some stuff that you don't like I'm sure (I know I did), but I really hope you get a bit of a surprise when you see PRO-TAK on full display. Looking forward to the impressions...

Peace out - see you in a few days.

                                The good.......

                                • Gang Tackling
                                • OL/DL Interaction is good but not great
                                • On field Refs
                                The Bad.........

                                • It seems like the center for both teams was in no mans land every time.
                                • That was either a poor trailer by GT or the graphics were not that great at all.
                                • Throwing Motion was robotic
                                • Player movement was robotic and stiff as a board.
                                • Player movement was same as Madden 09 IMO
                                • Defensive Backs like the double team on Fitz was not even looking at him.
                                • There was no pocket formed at all from what I seen.
                                • The same branching tackle animation in Madden 10 as was in 09. When you see a finesse back like Willie Parker move a pile and break out of 2 players doubling up on a tackle is pathetic. No wonder Ian got 300+ yards with Brandon Jacobs when he played.
                                • Seemed like the refs was getting knocked down every play. You hardly ever see this in the NFL.
                                • The towels were not animated to sway as the player moves.
                                • The player models looked horrible with there arms, helmets, face mask, and more.
Think about what you just saw and ask yourself this question....

If I was going to make a game and put a trailer of that game on a national exclusive would I want the best my new game has to offer in that trailer? The answer for everyone would be yes.

                                Now answer this.....

If that is the best that Madden 10 has to offer than how can you be happy with the product?

Please take the time to compare that video with a game who has already perfected it. I want Madden 10 to be GREAT so I can have fun again so please don't take this as a ***** post.

Do I like the video of Madden 10? No, But I would love to see a better game trailer soon!

                                Madden 10.........

Exactly!!! Very well put Nflhitman.. Seriously. As much lip as hes received from most posters & mods in this thread, he has and made valid points. This post here with the 3 Vid comparisons to 2K cannot be denied period.. The proof is in the pudding people.. And the 3 vids show this. I don't care much for talk, whatever Ian and co, and even the 5 reputable guys that went to the community day have to say talk is cheap. Bottom line is those 3 vids NFLHITMAN posted show exactly what Madden 10 is lacking! It shows what Next Gen football animation for an oline/dline should be like.. Period.. No way around it. No excuses. Sorry but it can't be said or shown any clearer. Look at the 3 vids and compare them to Madden's and you will see. It's not that hard. You just have to open your eyes...

If Ian and co can't get Madden to that point, it just will never be realistic or authentic.. And maybe it's not Ian fault, who knows, just maybe maybe it could be the Dev's(Tiburon)?? Maybe they are just not as talented as 2k's Dev's.. New game Engine needed??? Who knows.. You would think by now they would have gotten close to what 2K was doing 5 years ago?? Sorry for being such a pessimistic, but after so many years of disappointment from Madden, it's kinda hard not to be..

Much props to NFLHITMAN for this post..
