Hiding the overall rating in franchise mode yea or nay ?
There's been a lot of debate over hiding the potential overall rating or not hiding it. IMO, the overall rating sort of kills the realism of franchise mode. In reality, when teams look at player they want to draft or sign, there's nothing that tells them that player A is a better overall football player than player B. Teams have to look at the player's performance and specific attributes like speed, agility, strength and evaluate how those players will fit into their system in order to determine if one player is better than the other.132Show the overall rating in every mode0%46Don't show the overall rating in franchise mode only0%46Get rid of the overall rating all together0%40Tags: None -

There should be no OVR. You may think a 99 Speed 60 Strength player deserves a 90. But I may think a 90 Strength 70 Speed deserves 90.
I may like Power over Speed and vice-versa.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Actual potential and overall should be hidden.
A perceived potential and overall should be shown.
And all measurable's should be exact.
Are you getting a fast/dumb/unpolished guy or a fast/smart/polished guy. You should have some idea, but other than the speed, it may not be accurate.Comment

No. Remove unrequired stats for positions eg run block for qbs.
Give each position its relative stats then average them. Make that overall.
Either that or leave overall as it isComment

Getting rid of the overall rating all together is ludicrous. In Franchise mode getting rid of it would definitely add to the realism though.
I think what should be done is add the potential as a letter grade over an actual number. Also add whether a player is, On the rise, On the decline, or in his prime. Things like this along with career statistics, pro bowls, and any career accomplishments should determine why you signed player X or drafted player Y. Having an overall rating in Franchise mode kills part of the realism.
An option for it should definitely be added though as then you would be able to please the entire Madden community with this particular subject.Last edited by Aso21Raiders; 04-27-2009, 04:14 PM.Comment

NAY....
No point in getting rid or hiding ratings
Just turn the numbers into letters and all problems are solved
Never understood getting rid of ratings like run block for QB.....Wats the point? Just becuz its there doesnt mean it cant be low or at 0....Comment

Hide them.
I may be alone here but in my perfect franchise all I would be able to see is a players 40 time, bench press, cone drill etc plus his statistics (college if for a draft, or previous years for free agency) and a wonderlic test score.
In real life you don't get to see a nice tidy score for a players potential, overall ability or individual characteristics. You get to see data. Now I fully understand that many people would say my idea is way too involved and they don't want to have to analyze the information to see who is good/bad, but if you made it optional to show ratings or stats everyone would be happy.

I disagree, sort of. Hide the actual, but your coaching staff and scouts should have some feeling for how coach-able a player might be. Are you getting a raw or polished talent? How coach-able do you think someone is? You can have some idea (may not be totally accurate) of how well someone may be able to learn and improve there football knowledge, and technique.Comment

Re: Hiding the overall rating in franchise mode yea or nay ?
I think that the OVR rating should be taken out of Franchise mode only because franchise is about realism (and hopefully strategy this year). And by not seeing the OVR, it gives the user the ability to actually use a player in a role they feel to be proper. In real-life, some teams sign/draft a WR/HB/CB as a kick returner but they may end up to be huge at their main position. So all-in-all the removal of the OVR in Franchise mode will bring in a new aspect to the gamer by making them take chances on players and having true busts/gems.Comment
