Re: Pitching, Do you let the catcher select the pitch?
Not any more - I have found it much more fun to call the game myself. Having the catcher call the pitches almost seemed robotic to me. Much more engaging to call the pitches myself.
Either way I still stink -

nope..I pitch what I want when I want.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Pitching, Do you let the catcher select the pitch?
I tried letting the catcher call pitches at times. For some variety--sometimes I picked the pitch, sometimes I listened to him.
Too often, at a key moment, he would call for a letter-high fastball to someone like Pujols at a key moment in the game.
I took his advice a couple times, thinking the AI must know something I don't.... and whammo, bye-bye baseball.
Now I ignore the catcher.
I would be MUCH more interested in playing off the catchers' signs if: 1) I understood his signals for pitch location; 2) he was not an idiot much of the time; 3) the game had a catcher's signal-calling skill rating; and 4) I could shake off the catcher, and get a different pitch call.Last edited by chuckm1961; 04-28-2009, 10:58 AM.[Insert clever, personally-relevant, or cutting-edge remark, data, link, or picture]Comment

I pitch his pitches when I like what he's calling, but when he wants a high slider inside the zone against Howard or Manny I shake him off real quick.Comment

I don't usually follow the catcher's sign. They call for way to many pitches up in the zone, and over the middle of the plate. I stick to hitting the corners, and keeping the ball low.Comment

Am I missing something regarding shake-offs? It's nice to make the pitcher shake his head, but it seems meaningless.
If you shake off the catcher, doesn't he just keep calling the same pitch? That's what I'm seeing.[Insert clever, personally-relevant, or cutting-edge remark, data, link, or picture]Comment

On 2-strikes I ask him because I'm having trouble striking out guy. But sometimes I go with my gut. :3Note to self: BUY MADDEN 12*

Re: Pitching, Do you let the catcher select the pitch?
I rarely go with the catchers calls, like has been said he asks for way to many pitches to be over the plate. In fact my sweeping curve, when he calls for the glove is right down the damn middle, lol.
As for strikeouts to the poster above, if youre up 0-2, i try to get the hitter to chase with a breaking ball, or some sort of fastball with movement, cutter, running. but once you get to 2-2 try to use one pitch to setup another somewhere around the corners in the zone, assuming he doesnt hit the setup pitch haha.Comment

I watch for high/low inside/outside and pitch type, and if i like it(if i read it right) i ill pitch to that AREA, i don't use the fireball marker.
Pitching from pitcher/outfield cam. BTWComment

Re: Pitching, Do you let the catcher select the pitch?
Trust your instincts. This is the first console baseball game I've owned since Baseball Stars, so I've let the catcher call a large number of my pitches to this point. Periodically the catcher will call a pitch I'm uncomfortable with, and when I've elected to trust the catcher and throw it anyway, it's usually been parked in the outfield seats. Needless to say, I no longer throw pitches that I have reservations about. If you don't like the pitch the catcher is calling, don't throw it.Comment

Re: Pitching, Do you let the catcher select the pitch?
When playing in the National League I do let the catcher select the pitch, but only for the #9 hitter. I never pitch the catchers' selection in the American League. That's how I feel about that part of the game.Comment
