Re: MLB 09: The Show Patch Released 4/27/09 - Impressions and Discussion Here
Color me absolutely pissed, I speculated days upon days ago that the schedule fix was screwing existing franchises up only to be ignored by Russell and avoided like I had the swine flu. Suddenly my fears are confirmed and the solution is to restart, thats the best SCEA as a company can come up with? This has to be the first time Ive EVER heard of people crying about certain aspects of the game, ie. schedule not being perfect, which dont have any impact on the actual ability to play a franchise/season/rtts and actually get their way. So, let me get this straight, in an effort to appease the fans complaining about too many night games for certain teams my franchise is completely screwed if I want to use the patch that was released? Thats acceptable? Seriously, you corrected the schedule so Cubs fans wouldnt be forced to cry themselves to sleep at night at the lack of day games and in turn screwed each and every person who had already started a franchise prior to that, and again, your solution is, too bad so sad but restart all over again?
I gotta tell you, next year Im waiting to buy this game, plain and simple, I feel like Ive been burned and basically told to deal with it in the process. Hell, if the fix that caused all this was a gameplay problem that was effecting so many then I could understand but to fix the schedule for only part of the league anyways and screw up existing franchises in the process seems like one of the dumbest things Ive seen SCEA do in regards to their great baseball title.I DL the patch and I like it. I had no problems yet. But I delete all my old stuff. I didn't have to much to delete.

I see you continue to say this, and it makes zero sense. In order to sell a good or service year over year you need to continue to improve your product. Every year MLB The Show has improved upon itself in different areas to make it the best game on the market that we know today. That creates brand loyalty which makes this a day 1 buy for the majority of us in this thread. When year after year they have released this game with little to no bugs whatsoever, it frustrates the hell out of people (myself included) that I can't play this game because of screwed up lineup logic that I have no control over. Last year I had complete control over it.
Telling the consumer that we should blame ourselves for wanting a better product is truly mind boggling.Comment

If you might point out where at any point I said anything to the effect of crippling the company because I was going to wait next year on my purchase Im all ears. I know you cover it up with that little smiley face but in the end your completely wrong and I never even hinted that I thought my buying power would somehow cripple them. I dont understand how what I said was so bad, do you consistently rush out and buy everything that sound good on paper? Im simply saying that after this debacle Im waiting to hear what issues there are and the status of those issues getting resolved, thats it.Comment

I didn't. I think as long as you start a completely new franchise after the patch you're fine.Comment

Did I say we didn't want a better product? You missed my point. Check out any wish list. I'd bet there are thousand things we want in the game. I'd rather have a game that plays "fixed" than have problems, wouldn't you?Comment

This was something I feared might happen because they did SO much to try and get the management portion improved and the logic tweaked.
Yet with all these changes (subtle to us...probabaly not so subtle to those programming it) people kept demanding more; create-a-team, expansion mode, "real-time" atmosphere, create-a-stadium, etc, etc. The requests ranged from wishlist type hopes, to hostage demands...lol. It's an endless cycle.
I think some of that desire to appease a demanding fan base DOES lead to issues. Take The Chef's gripe. He (and others) lose out on their franchises because a very vocal group had strokes over the Cubs schedule (the rest of the teams with schedule issues, just as "broken", barely registered as blips). Now we have a schedule that is more accurate, but franchises that are toast.
Like I said...balance. To some degree, we have to hold ourselves responsible. I'm not saying how much, or even that SCEA doesn't still hold the overarching culpability (they do, IMO), just that I see where Jim is coming from. I don't think he's letting them completely off the hook. Just pointing out that "more" isn't always better.
In the end, it may be their game, but it's ours too. They've given us an aweful lot of input into what's prioritized. At the very least, this should be a wake up call that they are not machines, not perfect, and we should all probably keep stability in mind when making our requests.Last edited by SoxFan01605; 05-01-2009, 11:51 PM.Comment

Anyway....this is STILL a great game, bumps and bruises and all.Comment

I agree it is **** up when things don't work the way you want them, but after awhile you just have to take the good with the bad and also, realize it is just a video game. They will always have problems.Comment

Good for you, but not everyone has been so lucky. Some people have a good deal of progress that they don't want to have to delete. I can totally see where The Chef is coming from with this. A patch should never ever screw up existing saves. That's like rule number one.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Brewers | Bradley Braves | Wisconsin Badgers
Marquette Golden Eagles | Milwaukee Bucks | Milwaukee PanthersComment

But I am sure it will get fixed.

This is a lot of information to wade through. So is the verdict that the lineup and 60 day DL issues will not be fixed.Comment

Its not getting fixed, plain and simple. Russell himself finally addressed it with the post that I quoted initially and if they were going to fix it they certainly wouldnt be telling people to start their franchises over, that would make no sense at all. Face it, we got hosed if we had pre-patch franchises so other "important" things could get fixed. Do I believe they set out to do this on purpose? Of course not, Im not an idiot. Is it a huge letdown to hear that they are in essence doing nothing to resolve this problem? Yes it is.Comment
