I agree, that would be sick.

To the guys who say players don't lean backwards while running, its obvious you don't watch enough football. Sure, AD leans forward while accelerating, but when he reaches top speed, he has a slight backward lean (especially at 2:15 of the video). If you want to be picky, you can call it upright, but definitely not leaning forward.

I believe the 09 version was far better for a full sprint. From a mechanical point of view, 09 version is the form where the player runs the fastest he possibly can. Knees horizontal. Thats amazing. Core body unmovable . Thats excellent. Head not churning like an idiot, perfect.

If it could blend from the M10 animation, and the M09 animation trigger only when in open space, that would be perfect.

I see what your saying and agree to a certain point, but the the problem i have with the 09 animation is that it is too perfect/robotic. Football players (for the most part) dont have perfect form like this for a couple reasons. One is they have pads on weighing them down a bit, they may be a little fatigued, and another is that they arent coached to have perfect form, so most of them run however feels natural. I do however feel that if the 09 animation was made a little more natural/organic it could be a great open field sprint animation.

On somewhat of a side note, i would love to see running animations show the fatige of a player. For example, when AP is at full energy you can tell he has a bounce in his step and has strong strides. On the other hand when a player is fatigued he should have a little more forward lean and struggle to the way he's running for example James Harrison in the SB.

he just glided into the endzone. that's how it should look for a guy like chad. this makes the updated vid in the op look even worse, especially for a wide receiver.
My score for Madden 13: 4.5/10

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

The new one looks better, I think the arm not carrying the ball could be straighter though. Instead of angled less efficient motion, I mean you will see people run like that just less athletic types.

The problem is that's the way most of the running style is in the game, and that's definitely not how you see runners running most of the time. On the AP video someone posted, there was only one run that I noticed where he pulled up straight like that and it was after he cleared the secondary and was on his way to the endzone with no chance of contact. I love the new direction of the new animation and hope they can add a little more hip movement, side to side with the feet. I really think a little side to side with the feet will help give the allusion of turning when going from left to right without having to add lean technology into the game.

The runner’s hips do not move vertically, they just stay at the same the level… that is why the players look they are floating. As the player moves throughout his run cycle the hips need move in order to account for player weight.

I'm really torn here, I want to say 10 looks better, because in ways it does, but at the same time he doesn't seem to be moving fast enough.

Ian, if you REALLY want to make it look better you have to add some variance in the swinging of the arms. The legs aren't as noticable, but the way the arms swing in the exact same way everytime is terrible. It ruins the animation for me. The arms need to vary slightly in position each time he swings them, very slightly. That would go along way to create that realism, and not take you out of the game.

New running animation >>>>>> Old running animation

But, like everyone has been saying: the new animation looks like he's working a bit too hard to get down the field, or as if he had some knee or back pain. I think it would look better if it were more of a mixture of both animations: 75% new, 25% old. Also there needs to be a sense of speed or urgency by watching him run: his feet need to be going faster.

Re: Madden NFL 10: Updated Running Animation

The problem with the 09 animation was he was always in the sprint form no matter where he was running. You could run in any direction and he was in sprint form and this made him look robotic at all times. There was no other form of running animations.

The sprint form is very nice, but it should only kick in when you hit the speed burst button and he reaches his max speed, so it should be a gradual transformation .

I mentioned what was missing and that is when a player gets the ball and knows he has defenders coming. The runner is in a low position, and he does this so he will be able to cut and change direction easier, but once he sees that opening to go full sprint he will then go from being low to straighting up into a sprinters form for max speed.

They need to keep the sprinters form for when a player reaches his max speed, and have other running animations that showcase him in a lower position leaning forward, and when he jukes have that lean that they have when they juke. Now put all that together and you will hit the jackpot on running animations.

also ian, is there anyway you can tell us if the dbs still carry the ball in one hand when they recover a fumble or intercept a pass?
that really needs to be adressed
