Formation / gameplay questions

Hi I'm pretty new to fifa, and I would like to ask how can I change my formation to like 5 or 6 in the back, I've heard people say they use 6-?-? formations and I Don't see those in my formation list.

Also, I would like some quick tips in game play, I've watched some youtube videos to learn some stuff, but I still have a question on how to take the ball as defence, (this is for xbox) Do I just hold down A? thats what iv been doing all along, and just wait for the play to take the ball, anyways any help would be appreciated, thanks

Create a custom formation if you don't see the one you want in the list of default formations. Also, lots of gameplay tips around if you do a search.

Sadly, playing with 6 in the back (at least having 5 in the back with a CDM sitting right in front of the backline with no offensive responsibilities), although cheap, will win you a good chunk of games online. The midfield is too easily bypassed with long passes on the ground, whether using "A" or "Y", rendering them pretty much useless. A formation of:

---ST---ST---
-LAM----RAM-
---------------
-----CDM-----
0--0--0--0--0*
*backline of LWB, LCB, CB, RCB, RWB

is, unfortunately, pretty devastating.

it will win you some games if you play with all assisted control cause the COM wont miss your chance for you...
