I can't help it, personally. Anyone with a background in software is well aware of the negative consequences of patching.

It's why most developers HATE doing it. It's become common place in the industry, as the line between gaming console and PC continues to blur. However, as with any type of software, which is what a video game truly is (some fail to realize that), there is always the possibility of something going awry.

Sad that it happened, but nothing can really be done at this point. I'm sure a lesson was learned, by both the consumer and developer.

There's two sides to that coin. I would only be that paranoid about a company that has proven to me that it's incapable of providing adequate services. SCEA to me is certainly not in that category, nor would I think they would ever wish to be. Further, for anyone who felt that way up front, I am skeptical that they would purchase the product to begin with.

My question to you is: Why not rush to update? This was a purportedly QA'd patch from a reputable company that does not have a history of shoddy quality- which this patch clearly was.

If you want to ask me if I will be more hesitant next time- I think you already know the answer to that question given recent developments.

This seriously may be the dumbest question I have heard in a while.

First of all:
1) You need the patch for online play
2) You need the patch to login to sportsconnect
3) People are prompted everytime they start the game, of course they are gonna say yeah, because what patch would cause more issues than it fixes?

Pared, I usually agree with the things you say but this was a straight up stupid comment.

What I would ask of SCEA at this point is to disable the bad patch so that those of us that deleted it or never downloaded it have to keep seeing the update message. We know somethings wrong with it,why still prompt the bad patch?

One reason people rush to DL the patch is because they've been waiting for it for almost 2 months, and they trust SCEA. The list of things that were patched was lengthy, and it supposedly fixed a lot of items that people needed or wanted fixed. There was no indication from SCEA that the patch would cause more crashes or that people would have to start over to have things work properly.

If SCEA had said the patch wouldn't work with current franchises, and given people an option to DL it or not, it wouldn't have been a big deal. But who wants to have to decline a patch, not be able to access online, get updated rosters, etc. when there is no indication the patch is faulty? SCEA had a big QA problem by not catching the patch issues before sending it out, because it caused widespread problems that didn't take a normal user long to find. Why couldn't the QA people figure that out sooner?

Not even close to baiting. People want to make it personal when, believe it or not, some actually didn't download the patch and are still enjoying their games.

Granted, asking the mob why they are forming isn't always the smartest thing to do.

Either way, there's not much left to discuss. Get the new patch when it's available and enjoy the game.

I guess for most people it was probably just a reflex. Patches are so common now I wouldn't think that many people thought twice before hitting 'ok' to download it. And why would you? I think it's safe to say that 99% of users assume that a patch is going to fix existing bugs/glitches. Plus, now a days you have to have the latest version of the game to take advantage of the the online portion of the game and everything that goes along with that.

I think I understand where you're coming from with your question.. but I really don't think it's the best question to ask considering what has happened to most people post patch. Asking "why did everyone rush to install the patch", almost implies that those who downloaded the patch right away were some how in the wrong or at least naive. You're almost asking for people to become upset or provoked in a thread that is already very negative an hostile. I wouldn't think you'd be looking for an argument, but it would be hard to avoid one with a question like that.

I'm somewhat frustrated with the patch myself, but I've also come to expect problems like this from all types of software. I'm still going to enjoy the game, even if I end up having to restart my franchise. It's not the end of the world. Anyways, that's just my two cents..

ok so just to be 100% sure before i start my franchise in the next day or so-the only problem reported at all with post-patch franchises is the highlight reels not showing at the end of games, right? and there are no further problems whatsoever? thanks.

We had no idea the patch would effect some of the franchise and RTTS save files. So much of the QA process is retro-active. However we want everyone to know that we take theses issues very seriously and we looking at ways to help make this process better in the future.

Does that mean that things are still in limbo regarding any fixes to get back things like replay vault, etc. etc.,..

I think that was just a general response to the many comments about the state of SCEA QA.

As for the fixes, the only one to expect is the "mini patch" for the replay issue sometime this week. Not really in limbo, just not necessarily the info everyone wanted to hear.

What is getting completely lost in all this bickering and choosing sides is that "patches" are a concept only familiar to PC gamers until about 3 years ago. The importance in not making that distinction and then defining the expectations of customers who install patches is that we end up giving SCEA too much credit.
Imagine, if you will, how many hardware/software configurations a PC game needs to be compatible with and then take the next step and realize that a patch must do this as well. Finally ask yourself, how does that differ from this current situation?

I'll say it again, in my experience patches are placebos and that is o.k. They should never be cancer.
