Madden 10 Request - Don't Ruin Our Televisions

After playing APF2K8 for hundreds of hours, the little score bar is now literally burned into my television. APF2K8 had no fade away for the score bar during game play. That little score bar effectively ruined my $3,500 television.

From the screen shots of Madden, it looks like Madden is going back to the score bar as well (good call IMHO), but I have yet to see video that shows the score bar fading away. Please have the score bar fade away immediately after the ball is hiked so players televisions are protected. Even better, provide a way for us to do away with it all together by using a dynamically placed on the field first down marker yardage that shows the score (like we see on Sunday and which appears to be in use in Madden '10 on the Wii).

    First Down Marker Example

The ability to toggle the scorebar on/off or to use the dynamically placed 1st down marker would be awesome.

Please, do not ruin your customer's televisions!

I have played over 200 different games now on this TV (XBox, PS2, Wii, XBox 360, PS3) and APF2K8 is the only game to date that has damaged it. Granted, I have played it more than the others, but still, it could have been easily avoided with proper design.

          WOW...lol...

So you are saying everyone who has a Television set will experience the same problem as you? Doubt it. And there is always someone who played the game wayyyy longer than you who doesn't have the problem.

They can't cater to 1-2 people.

Why haven't we heard more stories about this?...lol...stop being picky. Im pretty sure if it was such a major design flaw Everyone and their momma would be complaining.

LCDs don't suffer from what is traditionally called burn in, but they do suffer from image persistence. With a small change the game could avoid the problem altogether. Looks like the Wii version may already have addressedt his issue, but not sure about the XBox 360 version.

How old is your TV that you have the problem on?

And what kind is it? (CRT, HDTV, Flat, LCD, etc...)

Precisely. Only Plasmas will give you that crap. It may be time for an upgrade/downgrade (considering the price you paid for the last TV).

this is a good suggestion...anything that can be "toggled" i like....i would actually like to see it fade When you call a play and reappear when the play is over. after the ball is hiked the only thing i want to see is Time of Game. i don't recall an instance where mid play i needed to glance down or up away from the field to check the score. i'd rather see more of the field and less of score boxes.

Definitely, waiting on a decently priced 70" or greater TV. I'm blind as a bat, but I can still see the burn in on my TV.

I think sometimes this is called image retention. There are DVD's out there with content designed to clear up this retention/ghosting/burn-in. You basically play it for a few hours at certain settings on your TV and it should clear it up. I think one is called Break In? it's usually used to break in a brand new tv...

anyway, what I do is have a video setting on my plasma that's low on the brightness and contrast when i'm on the Madden Menu. that helps me avoid the retention of the IQ score at the bottom right of the screen. once I jump into a game, i'll use another video setting so it's nice and bright. it's a little annoying to have to do this, but I don't want to burn in my big plasma screen prematurely.
