    Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

So I am really glad ARam is back in the lineup...

but why on earth is Miles starting instead of Fontenot at 2b? I know I have asked this before...

Fontenot had really began to come alive at the plate, and perhaps provides the most pop from the left side for the cubs, outside of Hoffpauir.

i hope it is just another "day off" thing....Lou seems to love those...Theriot goes yard in 3 of 4 games and then sits for the 5th.

What the hell is Soriano doing? Stay out of Gathright's way! I can't even relax with the Cubs leading 8-2 in the 9th.

what is that? 6 of 7? good stuff. good to get wins when things are a little shaky.

Theriot needs to iron out the kinks in his game...earlier this season he missed a Hit-and-run sign, has failed to get a sac bunt down, and now gets picked off third...that last is a bad one.

Its been awhile since I've checked in on this thread. Glad to see things are still the same as always. Now that the Gunners season is essentially over I guess I'll be able to keep up with the Cubs a little more closely.

Good streak we got going lately. Fontenot is on fire right now. Which is a pleasant surprise.

Lee is done. But unless we can find somebody stupid enough to trade with us he will be playing everyday. He just makes too much money not to.

Looks like we acquired Ryan Freel for Joey Gathright. The O's are paying the difference between the two players salaries, so the cubs won't be taking on anymore payroll. I'm not sure how I feel, but I'm going to guess Freel will be an upgrade over Gathright(so I guess I do like it).

Freel is a Lou Pinella type player. A guy that goes out and busts his hump every time he is given the chance. A like the move for this team but in all honesty its probably a wash. Basically trading one 4th outfielder for another.

Lousey loss tonite in 2 ways Ramirez could be gone for a while and our bullpen blows another one.

                  Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

The cubs are pretty much a veteran team...and they were a veteran team last year when they busted *** and won 90+.

Everyone is a year older, and it is showing with Lee and ARam...though when ARam has played he has been pretty damned good this year.

But the Cubs really sacrificed a big chunk of their greatest asset...depth...when they let DeRosa go. Now Miles is everyday, and you have to count on Fontenot who, despite some great flashes, is still rather inconsistent.

The Outfield is all a jumble as the team 1)holds its breath and gambles with Fukudome 2)has to decide between Johnson, Bradley, and Hoffpauir for the last starting spot and 3)hopes Soriano doesn't break his legs.

the real problem is #2...of course, having 5 decent choices in the OF may not be a bad thing, but you can't really run a 3 man platoon. and one of those dudes is making a lot of money. and the other is maybe the best power hitter on the team. and the other plays great d and has heart....3 is not greater than 1 here; or 2 for that matter.

Now what the hell do you do with Freel? Especially with 2 OFers in AAA that are hitting so well?

Only the Cubs could take something good, and fck with it until it was creaky.

Devastated by the Ram injury. WTF, when is this bad spell of luck going to end. Big trouble looming, have to find a way out of it. Base on balls is killing this staff right now. Time to man up, guys have to step up.

Well, I fell asleep during the game last night and woke up during the highlights or recap after the game, and A-Rams injury was a bad thing to wake up to.

Third base maybe if he hits(with Fontenot at second), besides the OF he can 2nd and 3rd.

I reckon Freel was optioned to AAA upon his acquirement. Though I suspect he will be called up now that Aram is on the shelf.

24 left on base today. good night, that is unbelievable.

6 LOB by Hoffpauir, who was 2 for 5 with 6TB.

3LOB each for Bradley, Fontenot, Soto.

Somebody is doing their job where getting on is concerned. I am trying to stay positive and waiting for the day when the team starts reaping the benefits.

But seriously...for uck's sake, are they done with Neal Cotts yet? The 1 good outing he has doesn't make up for the 4 atrocious ones with which he surrounds it.

And the patient, "he started slow, and then got banged up" patience with Soto has worn out. It is time for him to hit something.

It should be simple for the batting coaches....with men on, you can expect strikes, or at least close pitches, and primarily on the outer half. It is called GOING THE OTHER WAY, you half-wits. Every freakin' one of these struggling hitters (Lee, Soto, Bradley) needs to be attended to, and TOLD to Go the Other Way.
I have always got the feeling that the Cubs, regardless of who is manager, don't do much coaching or conditioning. Don't know why, it just always seems that way.

I was at yesterdays game and I just wanted to say I had no idea how much your bullpen sucks!!
You leave Dempster in for 121 pitches!?!?
Then take him out after he gives up 2 homeruns.......Lou obviously has no faith in his bullpen and I see why!
Cotts comes in gives up 2 runs
Patton comes in gives up 2 runs
Fox comes in gives up 2 runs
Heilman actually completes one full inning without falling apart or hurting himself but by then it's too late, game over.
I'm not trying to come here and **** talk but after I saw your bullpen last night I have no idea how you can make a strong playoff run.
                              My 2 cents

Let me guess, that awesome Brewer pitching staff is going to take you all he way right?

Bro, this is a marathon not a sprint. 17-14 with all that has gone wrong, plus the poor performance? I would have said no way. Meanwhile the Brewers have been on fire and are only 1/2 game better. You better hope they don't sustain the injuries the Cubs have. I doubt their pen will hold up, but we'll see. That goes for the SP too.

Lou said once Z comes back their will be changes in the pen. Cotts has to go, and they need two solid lefties. No one in Iowa can come up and get guys out? Bring up Fox was an embarrassment, enough of that merda. Jose Ascanio has taken his place. He came over in the Ohman trade to the Braves. Lets hope he is better.
