Re: 2K9 Worth It
Dude, all I can say is rent it and decide for yourself. You can ask other people what they think about it all you want but at the end of the day THEY ARE NOT YOU! Their opinions and likes may not be the same as what you like. And if you really want a console baseball game and you have a 360 then you know what you have to do either way.....Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: 2K9 Worth It
Let me add one thing...if you want to get 2K9 in order to play console baseball strictly for online/offline multiplayer or exhibition games, you should be satisfied. I don't have many complains when it comes to gameplay, since these were mostly addressed in patches.
However, if you are expecting to get a fully-functional Franchise mode out of 2K9, you will be extremely disappointed.
There is a disabled list glitch which is well documented here and elsewhere. Also, players sometimes change appearances (skin color, body type, etc.) when returning a player back from the minors. There are also prevent freezing issues (go look at 2K's forums for this game...there is a thread about 15 pages long dealing with this - this is also why I ditched 2K9), odd stat totals (10 players in my Franchise had supposedly played over 300 games in a season), a lack of free agents due to the fact that free agency was busted out of the box and needed a patch, and many other problems that make Franchise an essentially broken mode. Not to mention the fact that The Show on PSP has 40-man rosters, arbitration, the Rule 5 draft, player options, etc...all things that the 2K9 franchise mode lacks.
Again, if you don't care about Franchise, then you should be fine getting the game. Otherwise, if you are a franchise junkie, don't bother.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: 2K9 Worth It
True, it's always good to test a game before you play, but there is no doubt in mind that unless you are subject to some weird twist of fate whereby your gaming preferences are made entirely different that that of the average gamer, I say you'll prefer the show over 2k9.Comment

Re: 2K9 Worth It
If I was going to buy and 2k baseball game (rented 2k9) it would be this game.
I'm starting to think the same companies aren't making the same game.Moderator

Re: 2K9 Worth It
i think i know how you feel, and i wouldnt settle for anything as bad as 2k9 after playing the show. if you can, get it for ps2. if you have the cash, and dont have a 360 (you said zbox but im not sure you mean normal or 360), go buy a ps3. you wont regret it, wven if its sole use will be playing the show. i decided to get a 360 cuz its cheaper, and i want it to go away already so i can get a ps3 and play some damn baseball, 2k in general is just horrible. the only playable one for me is 2k7: the graphics are life-like, the game is a solid representation of baseball, and its best to just get this for 360 before touching a console version of the show, cuz itll ruin 2k7 for you. so basically the jist of what im saying is: buy a ps3 and the show; buy a ps2 and the show; keep playing psp; get mlb 2k7 for 360 and edit the rosters a bit because the only thing that will let you down with that game is that the hitting is too random and simple. i know that baseball itch, the desire to hit balls into crowds on an actual tv, and you shouldnt settle for something that got a 4.6 on gamespot. they know what theyre talking about.Comment

Re: 2K9 Worth It
Two things: I've played The Show on the PS3 (I have it for the PS2). And while it's a decent game, there's a seriously scripted feel to it this year. I'm not sure I'd actually recommend that game until SCEA scraps the old PS2 coding and decides to build a new-gen, physics-based game engine.
And Gamespot doesn't know what they're talking about. 2K9 is a solid 6.
