look at all the RBs that come out of nowhere every year. Packers fans, remember how Ryan Grant busted onto the scene? or Samkon Gado? he was good enough for a few games. when westbrook got hurt, Buckhalter stepped in and played well. madden should take into account the possibility that a backup could do well. just cause a guy's a backup doesn't mean he's a bum. look at all the 2-RB and 3-RB rotations in the NFL. even the Bears had some games where their backups came in and spelled Forte for a drive or two.

all I'm saying is it shouldn't be a death sentence for a backup to come in at any position.
I think you make a valid point with regards to RBs. I think a lot of RBs in the league are a product of their OL. That's why a backup RB can look good at times. But special players are hard to replace and you should see a huge drop at the QB position as well as most starting positions imo.

I just looked over the 2008 league stats, and the 60-63% number holds as a general rule. Good looking out .

But to go tit for tat with you, it's still the case that as of the last build we have for this game that's public ('09), it was easy to complete 75-80% or more of your passes on a regular basis. Even if you work in a short, WCO-type offense, this still isn't possible consistently in real life. And we know that you didn't even have to run that sort of offense to put up those numbers in '09.

To achieve the realism that's desired, we're still talking about a 15% reduction in completion rates (say, down to 60-63% from 75-78%), and that's pretty substantial.

To me, that ups the fun factor. How cool would it be if you saw McNabb rocket a few into the ground 5 yards short of his guy a few times a game like he does irl?
Yep, agree with Autumn, no more Robo QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would loveee to see this. Just like I would love to see QBs throw the ball out of bounds more when passing down the sidelines since its safer than throwing it straight down the sideline.

We should be in luck with the new accuracy windows they added this year.

Or near the GL and all receivers are covered, the QB throws the ball into the stands.

Backups really need to prove themselves thoroughly to get the starting job. By your philosophy, a backup shouldn't play worse than the starter because they are in the NFL and made the roster? I think you need to do your homework more.

Last 2 year's league Completion % was 61%. The number has continued to rise as teams throw the ball downfield much less these days.

Donny, very great to hear that the game is coming along together...it is a little bit frightening to hear that Josh is getting Franchise in its "final form" when we have heard next to nothing about it other than "it is enhanced"...any idea when we'll be hearing more from the franchise folks?

Again...thanks for sharing...it makes the wait even more unbearable.
Sucks cause by the time we here anythign about franchise.. it will already be done with.. but i trust they'll get it right thsi time for some reason

Thats cool, maybe this is a one time occurance or something. Overall it just has been a trend in Madden over the years in which you have fallen into with the first games you have told us about.

Was just looking at the stats of Steve Young who I think we can all agree is a little better than Hasselback. He ran the West Coast a long time. His carreer best season was 94 where he threw for a 70% completion ratio. That is the type of year that gets you into the Hall of Fame. That was also the year they won the SuperBowl. His carrer average was at 64% which is a great career. Just keeping that into perspective I am sure Young had a game or two where he threw over 70%, how many I don't know. He also had a pretty good cast around him that blows the Seattle roster out of the water so I can see how he was able to do that.

Point is, for me I would like to see QBs in general scaled down a bit to acheive the sim experience that would replicate what we see in the NFL.

Well said. I think that's where the run blocking is going to be so important. Behind a good line, you should be able to still find some holes and pick up a few yards per carry. What's going to distinguish a better back though is his ability to make a move in the open field to break a play loose, or his ability to shed a few tacklers and rumble forward for some extra yardage.

What coverage were you playing to allow Steve Smith to score on the last play of the game?

This was my main concern...Smith scoring on what should have been a Prevent D on last play of game. Wouldn't happen from that far out.

Very exciting game Donny. I'm a huge Panthers fan. I have to know, how hard was it to lock down Deangelo Williams? Out of all the things you mentioned, that was the only thing that made me cringe a little bit.

Is it possible for you to throw up his stats?
