Please don't give up on it yet. The game plays more of a slugfest because that's exactly how those fighters fight. Watch their recent bout and you'll see that they're letting their hands go.

I've had some great bouts with this so far. I'm able to lean+block at the same time while still getting off counters leads.

    Just keep practicing.

I'm not digging the controls, I want to use the buttons. I hated the analog control in Round 3 and I really hate them in Round 4. I'm not digging it at all.

Everything else about the game I like a lot. Except for that oogly ring girl they had in the demo.

Anybody seen a TKO on Youtube or gotten one themselves yet. Since there's no ref I wonder what the animation would look like in stopping the fight. Did they have TKO's on FN3 and is it actually in this game?

I'm thinking it would be difficult to get a TKO since anytime I really stun the AI or just after a knockdown I find it very difficult to follow up on it to end the fight. The AI recovers within seconds, I don't know if it's been amped up for the demo but if it's that difficult on the easy skill level in the demo it's gonna impossible at higher skill levels. Perhaps this changes when the AI tires in the late rounds but if your opponent is rocked with a knockdown in the 1st round he still should be dazed enough that you should be able to finish him off pretty easily.

For instance the Foreman-Frazier fight where Frazier was knocked down 7 times in 2 rounds can't be recreated with this game because the AI won't stay groggy that long.

Practicing left jab- right hook haymaker combos and I stunned PacMan with a left jab. The jab caught him flush on the cheek as I was coming forward.

Think about it like this when you have OVR the question that should be asked is "Is person A better than Person B? If so then in what ways? If not then why not?
thats not the way to look at it. you can't compare boxer A to boxer B. The thing is that when you compile attributes in a game you are looking at a certain skill set prevalent to each boxer. Pernell Whitakers overall skill set in a ratings based game will net him a high overall rating. Just as tommy morrison was probably more complete from one skill to the next than foreman, even if just by a small margin. It's just a number.

gotta agree with this ...sweet pee was one of the most evasive fighters in the game...hard to hit and never really saw the mat in his career....had decent power and a sweet jab. all his losses were arguable..including the hoya lost..and at his peak sweet pee can hang with anyone in boxing many tried to emalulate but couldnt come close.....not the greatest but skillwise he's one of the best in his division

with that being said ..im sure ratings will change up a bit

Parasight, don't give up on this game!! Fight Night Round 4 is amazing and the best representation of boxing that you'll play in a videogame. I enjoyed Round 3 even with some of its issues, but this destroys it.

For a guy who plays Undisputed a lot, the first thing you need to remember is that the punching in this game is a totally different beast. Since you're able to move your torso to create angles it becomes much more realistic and potentially more difficult. However, this game is only a slugfest if that's what you allow it to be. You still need to circle, setup shots, and outhink your opponent. I typically like to work my jab a lot and move in and out with bodyshots to set up my hard stuff to the head. I'm able to do this with little problem. Hatton is more aggressive and doesn't give you much space, but you still don't have to get into a bar room brawl with him.

I think if you give it more time you will come to appreciate it. I realize this isn't for everyone, but it's definitely not a shallow game.

I would of enjoyed the demo more and played it longer if they had a option to use buttons to throw punches. The analog system is not precise and takes way from the fun factor and realism.

I would of rather they had jim lampley doing commentary. He brings a more exciting approach to the matches.

The more I play w/ TPC, the more I hate it but I'm not going to beat a dead horse. They really need to speed up haymakers. The game looks great though. Hope they fix the TPC config so that a hook to the head is just 3-9 o'clock flicks.

My feel for the game improves with my haymaker practice against the CPU. I started practicing left hook haymakers concentrating mostly on head shots. I did it so many times the right hooks are natural and even the combo haymakers come easily. I just KOed PacMan in the first round after 2 knockdowns and 22 of 33 haymaker shots. The AI is tame in this game, but still fun and a good way to practice your hook combos, regular or haymaker.

Haymaker's speed is just right IMO.

Exactly, if it was any faster it would just become a haymaker fest again because there's no risk\reward with it. To really be able to pull off a good haymaker your opponent has to make a mistake and leave himself open and this game represents that well. Conversely the haymaker should be telegraphed a but because it gives the opponent time to react and that way it keeps it from being abused again because a good player can nail off a counter strike or back away. Nowif they properly penalize stamina for those who want throw haymakers every 3rd punch then it will be perfect.
