Pretty sure the ownership thing is still being sorted out. The current owners didn't want to bring him in because they didn't want to increase the payroll. I'd imagine if the new owner was in charge then we would at least try to get Peavy.

Here's a link about the pending sale here:

Cubs fans, what in the world is going on with Derrek Lee? Why he's been struggling so much this year? Is he playing though injuries or something? It just seems like a mystery to me to see Lee having such a bad year after being so consistent for much of his career.

        Re: 2009 Chicago Cubs

with all due respect, the Lee issue is turning around a bit, as he is hitting .239, which sadly seems fantastic, all things considered.

Bradley is the real issue, and I will say for the 14th time that this was an absolutely ********-*** move. Goddammit, get a baseball card and look at the back of it. There was no reason to believe that we couldn't get the same from either DeRosa, Hoffpauir, of Kosuke in RF. Milton Bradley would be just any other 2nd tier OFer if it wasn't for the fact that his name was mentioned so often for other reasons...and then the guy has a big year in one of the best hitter's park in the world....thanks, hendry. you stupid putz.

Our IF is a mess of ****. no one, apparently, can hit if they play 2nd or 3rd.

        .265 .279 .317 .239 .184 .195 .206 .100

Ladies and gentlemen, the Batting Average of tonight's 1-8 hitters.

At what point do you say, "FIRE THE MOTHER******* HITTING COACH!!!"

How can they be swept by the Cards in StL after giving up only 8 runs in the thre contests??? BY SCORING 2 RUNS!!!!! WTF?

The pitching staff just held one of the most potent offenses in baseball to an average of 2.6 r/g, and the offense can't manage more than 2 runs over 3 games. i am not sure why the current plate approach is to fail miserably against pitchers w/o devastating velocity that throw lots of strikes.

If I wanted to beat the Cubs, I would get Doug Davis, J. Pineiro, and My Half-******** Obese Cousin. Game, Set, Match....on to NLCS.

Time is up...BRADLEY has to go...cut him, option him, push him off the bus, i don't give 2 ****s. Call Jeff Gilloolly and have him hit Bradley upside the knee with a steel pipe, and Let Hoff and Fox and Tonya Harding battle it out and get the overpaid, overhyped, never-was vets out of the way.

SIDENOTE---the most pathetic part is that the Cubs have a Top 5 Payroll....wtf....on what? holy ****....Look at other Top 5 teams and what they are paying for....but somehow not a single move for someone of the caliber of Sabathia, Lowe, Texiera, etc....but Hendry will **** his pants trying to land Soriano and Bradley. If it didn't make me want to cry, I would laugh...

oh man..It's only May. I believe they wil get it together at sometime.

They really miss A Ram and Bradley is not a clean up hitter. I still think Lee was on the juice, or that injury to his wrist really did him in.

The move to let go off DeRosa was really stupid though, i still don't understand that. I think him and Lou had some words. If you're wondering my dad is a big cubs fan, So I hear alot from him. Well not now because my red birds got the brooms out.

All in All, I believe the Cubs are still going to be there, y'all acting like the Cubs are 8 or 9 games out

I'm just taking an educated guess here, but I think DeRo was traded so we could clear money for Bradley. I didn't like the trade at all, and getting back 3 minor league pitchers who don't look to have solid upside(from what I've heard) just made me think it was for salary means.

This Cubs offense is very fun to watch. Makes me sick.

wrist injuries seem to be tough...Nomar never really seemed to recover, Ortiz is having his problems...

all related to wrist issues? not really, but still, it has to be tough.

If Lee was on the meds, I don't think it was for very long. But he always hit relatively well with a lot of doubles power. That translating into a year or two of good power is feasible. but i have no real final opinion on the matter.

Jim Hendry blew it in the offseason. He traded a lot of guys but has nothing to show for it. Meanwhile, he's steadfast in hanging on to that paper tiger, D Lee.

Long time reader (of this thread), first time poster.

I've basically given up on this team. They have time to turn it around, but something just seems off to me, and it has nothing to do with injuries. I don't know if there is a chemistry problem or what, but I just have a bad feeling that something internal isn't right. Might just be my imagination, although it's causing me to revert to my 1990's ritual of flushing the season down the toilet after 40 games....so dissapointing considering the talent on this team.

The frustration continues. How can a MLB offense suck so damn bad?

Think about it...your leadoff hitter is SammySosa-lite.
Theriot has now had his head officially screwed with.
                          Derrek Lee is .....
Ramirez is built in a fashion that makes him look unsturdy.
Bradley is the biggest ****ing joke of a "big offseason move" since i don't know when
Fukudome is from another country and is surrounded by a group of guys who I can't imagine are setting the best example.
Soto is still young and caught a ton last year.
Hoffpauir is by all accounts a rookie.
Scales is a 31 yr old rookie.

Take into account the fact that the hitting staff doesn't seem to do ****. they didn't do **** last year when the entire ****ing team forgot how to walk or to make contact, or in lee's case, not ground into DPs.

They aren't doing **** this year. Everyone is slumping all at once. that isn't coincidence, that is coaching. What kind of hitting coach allows this kind of thing to continue? They have been flailing against pitchers that barely top 91 and throw lots of strikes, and are not in any fashion GregMaddux.

It starts with telling every one of them that their job is up for grabs, go ahead and call Fox up and give up like all hell on Bradley. Trade him for anything he can fetch ASAP and call it a day. Don't wait until Labor Day to decide it was every bit the stupid move so many of us said it was.

and i don't care if Lou goes or stays. i don't see any fire from this team at all, and least of all from lou. his old man mean mugs he gives everybody when they play as though they haven't been coached is not enough. If he isn't throwing chairs in the clubhouse at this point, he isn't doing his job.

I dont know, it's frustrating but wasnt the team below .500 until sometime in June in 07 before things come together. The injury bug has hounded the team all year. So I'm not giving up hope yet.

That is true...I remember the Braves came to Wrigley in the first week of June 2007 and the Cubs were struggling mightily. That was the series where Lou flipped out on a call at 3B, and from that point on the Cubs were hot.

And why isn't Ryan Freel playing 3rd instead of this bum Scales? I hate to say it but I think were done. Lou is having the worst season of his managerial career. And I guess I will finally have to admit that Bradley is a bust. Looks like The Ballpark in Arlington really inflated his numbers. Because you can't deny that last year he flat out raked.
