what if Madden 10 is a great game. What kind of article would be written by joystick then?

If people are ticked off, it's because the joystiq preview (and today's feeble attempt to correct the record) are examples of extremely poor journalism.

The author of a preview piece has two jobs: one, get the facts straight; and two, tell the reader what the game is, not what he would like it to be.

The author failed miserably on both counts; not once, but twice. It's painfully obvious he would far rather be writing about something, anything other than a sports title. Both pieces were a near total waste of bandwidth.

I'm actually shocked by what they have said.

It would be the same type of article in general. To Derrville, I dont think people are butt hurt about the article, and for everyone else, its not a big deal whats being said in the article.

The bottom line is..this guy just doesn't seem interested in sports games in general. I cant quote them on this, but I can pretty much gaurantee you that to them (joystiq) every sports game is just a roster update.

They dont notice the intricasies. I wouldn't even go as far as to say that this guy is even a casual fan. He's not interested, no big deal, lets keep it moving.

Re: Madden 10: Did EA press reset? (Joystiq)

I guess I must be the only person that likes and reads Joystiq daily. They don't get paid for their previews and receive no special favors or compensation for events. They give away all the swag that they get in an effort to stay independant.

They don't go to community preview events if the company pays for them. They pay their own way, so that they can stay objective.

Personally, I found the preview to be refreshing in that it seemed to be written from a pretty realistic perspective of what a casual person probably thinks about the Madden franchise. The last 3-4 years haven't brought any innovation to Madden, and if you played 07 and then played 09, you wouldn't really notice anything that different.

Most of you just seem angry that it isn't another jock riding preview piece on how great EA and Ian are. Ian has been great for the Madden community and his level of interaction with the community is unmatched, but he has yet to make a decent game of Madden. Only 8 people on here have played Madden 10, yet you all already appoint him the chosen one and this the best Madden ever.

I've been fooled by marketing, glowing previews, and reviews time and time again. I'm glad Joystiq took a different approach to previewing the game.

Anyone read that comment by that Captain Planet guy on their comment section? He pretty much says he's a cheeser and it's the right way to play madden.
I'd like to call that guy a dummy, but I won't. Most of Joystiq's fan base is people like him. From that comment, he'd rather find exploits/glitches in the game and use that against others (cheating) rather than play fair and play a realistic simulation of football. He's ruining the Madden name, because from what I know, Madden is the face of the NFL (Even though he's retired) and the video game should mimic that into the game.

I couldn't agree more....we have not PLAYED the game...all this praise you all are heaping on Ian and his crew is not yet earned!! And already, we're beginning to hear the words trickling in preparing us for some of the letdowns we're sure to have.

While I am HOPING this game'll be at least SOMEWHAT what I was wishing for these past few years, I can guarantee it is NOT going to be the end-all be-all of football games. Just being realistic!!

At best, Joystiq took a shallow approach in previewing Madden. (I've seen better negative reviews).

But that's not to take anything from Joystiq. If you go to their site, and look at their posting history, you will notice that they've written 60 blog articles in the past 24 hours (during E3 it will probably reach 200). Their information is supposed to be brief and reactionary. This is useful for people who want information quickly and don't necessarily have the interest to dig deeper. They're not IGN, Gamespot, etc. so they don't have the same journalistic obligations.

So in essence, this article is what it is. The crime was expecting it to be anymore than an OP-ed.

I don't mind the article. They are speaking on their opinion. I mean, sure, they stated false info in the first article, but who hasn't?

However, I don't like the fact that even though they took the time to correct the info, they still took time to dog EA, like they did on the first article.

And Madden Team Play Online actually sounds like a good idea. Imagine a Be A Pro online mode where there are 11 users on one side of the ball of one team, each one controlling a single player. Those users are playing the other 11 users on the other team, and it would emphasize teamwork. It would be like the Call of Duty 4 online for football...

This is Ian Cumming's first time being lead designer for Madden NFL and Phil Frazier's first full year as senior producer for Madden NFL. Give these guys a chance. Last year Madden made a big leap from Madden 08 to Madden 09 and this year looks even more promising.

I posted on that article on Joystiq, this morning, way before it hit this site and to me, dude came off like a child with a bunch of bias. Not objective writing, at all but very hateful. I understand that the game is not even out yet but the clips and such that I have seen shows a BUNCH of improvements, thus far, and all we need is a final product to pull it all together.
I think that "writer" should gave a balance of positives and negatives. He stayed more on the negative side and was so blinded by his own bias that his initial report was inaccurate on what the new Madden was going to have in it. Terrible writing for a website like that.
Just cuz you pour syrup on ish....

Interesting article. It seems that some of you got your feelings hurt by a non brown nosing article. It is refreshing to see someone in the industry actually criticize a game instead of calling it the best ever like others have the last 4 years (when in reality it has sucked).

It seems the Madden team also got their feelings hurt.

Oh well, solid article if you ask me.
