finally someone spits the truth. by some of the comments on here you'd think that there were a bunch of videogames that actually resemble boxing. (theres only 1 this one.

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Demo Impressions

Well what I thought was going to happen happened. I weave and get the opening for a counter, make a move on the stick for an uppercut and what do I get, PacMan just standing admiring his great defense not throwing anything. HOWEVER if there was a button to press I CERTAINLY would have nailed Hatton.

I like the game alot except right up to the point where you have to throw a punch. I have few games on my list this year but wasn't going to drop the money for them all. I had to figure out 2 that I was going to do without. Not even so much the money but the fact that I wont have time to really play them all fully and it looks like this one might have been cut.

For stick users I can see this being a very good game. A bit on the stiff side and robotic but I can see stick users being happy with it. But for others who don't / can't get the flow with the stick it just wont do.

I think I'm gonna probably pass on this one. I'll give it a little more time with the demo but I just don't like games where in the heat of the battle a poor twist of a stick means you lose.

EDIT: Let me retract that. When in it comes to BOXING I don't like the idea of a poor twist of a stick means you lose. Maybe a hockey game or other games but not a boxing game.

I'm enjoying the demo and feel it's responsive. It feels very different from FN3 which is good. I love they way i can throw fast combos now. This is a good game. This is the best boxing game to date so far..

I like the control scheme. I think the sticks are perfectly responsive. I'm glad they removed the button mashing because that does not represent the "sweet science" well at all.

I'm not surprise your having problems landing punches since you couldn't pull off non of the ground game in UFC, which are similar movements. Maybe it's not the game

Button mashing is extremely kiddy and arcade. IMO it takes no skills when a person is button mashing

I guess some people prefer a game where whoever mashes most wins. If you are not willing to put in the time to learn to be skillful then of course you won't be good at it, welcome to Simulation, this is the direction that games are going in, better get yourself a Wii.

Personally I think that games where you can take it home and become the champ in the same night aren't worth their weight in paper.

Daaamn. Let me stop. I'm just playin/Instigating, lol. Its all in jest, dont take anything personal from me folks.

On another note, I didn't even think about that. The UFC ground game is very similar to the stick movements in FNs punch game. You have to be VERY thorough and precise with the sticks man.

Let me give you cats that are having trouble with the sticks some advice. You cant get all excited while you're trying to throw punches with the stick, you have to be calm with that ****, or else you're unknowingly leaning the stick the wrong way. See, when you get excited with the buttons, you can just start mashing em real fast. You absolutely CANNOT do that when your playing with the sticks. You'll input the wrong commands.

I learned this back in the day when the sticks were first introduced to the FN series. I've actually never been one to get excited and mash buttons uncontrollably in a game, but I had instances where I would get all amped up and start flicking the stick all crazy because I was backed into a corner or something. It didnt help, I just got knocked out.

As I stated, you have to remain in a very relaxed state (this is sounding like some nutty psychiatrist **** huh, lol) to input the proper commands.

I had to do the same thing with the UFC ground game. I didn't know the stick movements to get out of submission moves, so when I got stuck in a submission I started flicking the stick like a madman (which some of you are probably doing in FN) and guess what, I got tapped out a couple of times, It didn't help.

I had to look at the movements in the move list, and with practice (and staying calm wit it) you'd be hard pressed to tap me out now. Remember, Relaxed precise movements.

geez you gave the secret away...these guys dont know what patience is........

bottom line, in most strategic games (and most sports games)you have to know what you're doing and be in a calm state b4 you make the next move....but some just wanna press buttons...oh well..

Downloaded the demo last night. This will not doubt be the best boxing game to date. It's very fluid. Just got to get a better grasp of the controls. Very impressed.

So you say but the arc movement on the stick for head uppercuts and head hooks are very much like the real life motion used to throw these punches.
