For some reason I don't think he ends up in Boston. I can see the Mets, Tigers, or Reds going after him if they're still in it in a few weeks.Comment

Re: Good deal: Holliday OK if A's trade him away
Boston won't give up the prospects Beane would want in a deal for him. Boston's farm system is top heavy, making it hard for them get a rental type of player because they have few mid-level prospects. Most GM's only want to talk about their three B's, Masterson and Lars Anderson. As a result, I don't expect the Red Sox to make a big trade. Something like the proposed Delcarmen for Nick Johnson seems more likely.
As for Holliday, nothing comes to mind. The Mets would probably take him but I don't know what they have that would interest Beane. Maybe the Tigers? It wouldn't shock me if Beane hangs onto him and just takes the draft picks when Holliday signs with another club. The only teams that will give up much value are ones that think Holliday puts them over the top, and I just don't see a team fitting that description at this moment in time.Last edited by Misfit; 06-04-2009, 02:38 PM.Comment

I don't see the Reds going after him. Not that I would mind, but I just don't see us making any moves if we didn't make hardly any in the off season.Comment

Re: Good deal: Holliday OK if A's trade him away
I think much more was made of this than should have been. He never said that he would want to be traded if they weren't doing well.
This was his exact quote:
He also made it clear many times in the interview how much he loved his teammates and playing in oakland.I'll be OK to stay and play it out and see what happens. Or, if [general manager] Billy [Beane] thinks he can get a couple good players for me and give me a chance to go play in the postseason, I'll be OK with that too.
I think he gave a perfect response considering he was doing an interview and was asked this question.Comment

Re: Good deal: Holliday OK if A's trade him away
Interestingly the Red Sox have been scouting Jeff Francoeur as the Braves have shown interest in Brad Penny and it is rumored that Francoeur is who the Sox want in return.
I imagine Holliday want's out of Oakland to get into a smaller ballpark. His batting average is 55 points lower in Oakland than on the road.
Two teams i would not rule out are the Giants and the Cardinals.
The Giants have been looking for a bat and already contacted Houston about Carlos Lee (though Lee said he would not waive his no-trade clause). The Giants could aso afford to sign Holliday to a ong term deal if they acquired him.
Holliday was almost traded to the Cardinals last winter and i imagine they would still maintain a level of interest. They coud certainely use another bat behind Albert Pujols and there is a chance that Troy Glaus may not be back until late in the season, if at all.Comment

Re: Good deal: Holliday OK if A's trade him away
The Tigers defiantly could use a hitter but I don't see it happening. All the other trades they have made recently really depleted their minor leagues. Not sure they would have the kind of prospects Oakland would be looking for. Also given there lineup is already predominately right handed they probally would be looking for a left handed hitter. That would be great if it happened though.Last edited by mgoblue678; 06-05-2009, 09:05 PM.My Teams

Re: Good deal: Holliday OK if A's trade him away
Really?! I loooove Frenchy, as the Braves are my NL team, but the kid saw his second 3-0 count of the SEASON the other night. Jeff does not take pitches, period ... which is counter Red Sox philosophy. That said, his arm in right and 1 more reason to move Drew are 2 things I'm very ok with.
I'm curious why the Braves would do that though, short of giving up entirely on all those tools Jeff possesses.Comment

I think the Braves have run out of patience with Francoeur and a change of scenery might do him good.
Plus it is possible the Braves could open next season with an Outfield of Nate McLouth in LF Jordan Schaefer in CF and Jason Heyward in RF which would push Francoeur out of the mix in Atlanta anyway.Comment

Re: Good deal: Holliday OK if A's trade him away
I would love to see Holliday up here with the Jays, the jays have really no left fielder at all with Jose Bautista and Adam Lind. Lind usually play in left but I think he is kind of a liability out there. Holliday would be a nice hitter in front of Wells or behind but JP Riccardi is too dam cheap and stupid to do get a player like Holliday.NHL: Buffalo Sabres, Chicago Blackhawks
