Re: Best young goalies in 09
tuuka rask as my guy in 5-10 years down the line, if i can keep him that long.
for short term, i'd have to say ryan miller, or Cam Ward.
Cam Ward is a beast in this game, and was probably one of the top 5 goaltenders in the real life NHL this season.
Ryan Miller is easier to get than Cam Ward, in the game, however, so I usually just trade for Rask and Miller.
Also I try to get Filatov, because his ratings are geared so that even though he is an 83 ovr, he usually plays like a 93, haha. Jakub Voracek is also like that, but he's not as good as Filitov.
On defense, i always go for pietriangelo (SP?). He's only a 76 ovr at the first seasn, which is good, because it means he's easy to get and easy to resign for those first few years. Again, his ratings are geared so that he's basically a lesser version of Nick Lidstrom, with the physicality of Pronger. Great pickup to build your defense around.
Those three or four people can last your dynasty for many years to come...trust me on this. -

Yeah Filatov and Voracek are ridiculous! They will both give you top line stats with <1mil contracts for 3 years. I would suggest steve mason, carey price, cam ward, josh harding, or johnathan bernier for goaltenders, the latter being a backup for a few years first. Jason Pominville and Kopitar are also good pick ups considering there ratings, ability to produce, low contracts, and long term contracts.Comment

Re: Best young goalies in 09
Cam Ward (Carolina Hurricanes) gets my vote as Best Youngest Goalie already in the NHL.
I'd back him up with Cory Schneider (Manitoba Moose - Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate).
Notable mention to Tuukka Rask (Providence Bruins - Boston Affiliate)

As a Caps fan I am interested to see where they land on Varlamov's ratings. I won't mind building my franchise around him (and immediately unloading Theodore's contract on an unsuspecting computer-controlled Southeast Division team).Comment

Re: Best young goalies in 09
Yea, It sucks as they have not had a roster update since playoffs so Varlamov's like a 72 with crap potential..Comment

Re: Best young goalies in 09
Actually I don't mind. The last roster update EA released was on the NHL trade deadline (approx.), like every year. Then I'm sure they start focusing on the next release in the series. They should stick to the current schedule.

Re: Best young goalies in 09
i have a dynasty with the predators, and pekka rinne is a straight up stud in net. his overall is only 77, but he has the best stats of any goalie in the league right now about halfway throught the season. 1.85 GAA and .920 save %, both of which lead the league for starting goalies. at the beginning of the season i thought maybe he was just on a hot streak, but now i know he is the real deal.Comment

coincidentally, he now pretty much sucks, at least in all of my dynasties.
I would say Tuuka Rask as my top choice for the future, and either cam ward or steve mason for the present.
Once you lose either Mason or Ward, you can go with Rask. Cory Schneider is also really good, but I personally like Rasky a lot better.
But getting Voracek and Filatov in all of your dynasties is basically a must, even if it means giving up like, half of your squad. They're so worth it!!Comment
