I'm gonna say it again, I love EVERYTHING about this game except that there are no instant replays!!!! in 2k5, everytime there was a 10+ yards completion or run there was an instant replay.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
Great videos, but my impression in general is that there are WAY too many big plays. This is the Ravens and the Titans... GREAT defensive teams and middle of the road offenses. Neither team allows many 100 yard rushers, yet it was a regular occurance to see 10 yard runs and longer. I'd hate to see what the Pats or the Vikings would do to a team like the Lions.
I saw that the 'weapons curve' that made some problems with pressure in this video and won't knock that, but there was actually a good amount of pressure anyway, it just seemed like neither QB would take a sack and would instead rather chuck a pass up into coverage. Both the CPU and Ian did this. There were a lot of picks, but that was from throwing into coverage and none were the kind that makes you feel like the computer cheated.
Unfortunately this is caused from the CPU throwing down the field too much and not taking what the D gives him (Ian did this too, but that's not what worries me). See 1:29 of Part 4 when Flacco throws a pick. He is under pressure, but there is a wide open guy the flats, and right in front of him on a shallow drag. He instead throws the deep middle route which is well covered, and him being hit makes it an awful throw that is picked. It just seemed like every other pass Flacco threw was 20+ yards down the field, which isn't what any team in the NFL does.
I ran down the passing stats Ian gave for 28 CPU-HUM games in the 'First Quarter Falcons' thread, and I posted the stats to show the CPU and Human QBs had average yards/completion way above what a real QB would have, and in the CPU's case it led to an INT percentage of 6.8% (NFL average was 2.5% last year). Possibly in franchise mode, the 'conservative' slider under coaching strategy would help. But in this video, the only time the CPU consistently took what the D gave him was in the 2 minute drills.
Speaking of those, there is a BIG need for accelerated clock in the last 2 minutes either in a patch or at least next year's game. I know this was discussed a lot earlier, but I don't think anybody mentioned the need for a more realistic and SLOWER hurry-up. Both of the halves ended with no huddle drives that had way more plays than should have been possible in that amount of time, huddle or not. I didn't keep track of the 1st half drive, but the end of the game, the Ravens started with 1:55 left, and proceeded to run the following plays:
1-incomplete-hold penalty-stops clock
2-pass out of bounds (ob)-stops clock
3-pass in bounds-hurried up
4-incomplete-stops clock
5-pass in bounds-hurried up
6-incomplete-stops clock
7-pass ob-stops clock
8-pass in bounds-timeout with 55 seconds left. (That's 8 plays in 60 seconds, 7.5 sec/play, including 2 times where they had to hurry to the line)
9-20 yard pass in bounds, hurried up and got the next play off only 8 seconds later. (In the Super Bowl this year on the Steelers game winning drive, after a 14 yard completion, it took the Steelers 15 seconds to get the play off on one of the fastest hurry-ups I've seen that didn't end with a spike, then later in the drive they hurried up and it took 18 seconds, then 20 on the next time. 8 seconds is about half the time it should take.)
10-incomplete
11-incomplete
12-TD pass wiped out by hold, still takes time off clock
false start... didn't run time off clock in this video so I won't count it as a play, but I think it should run off 10 seconds since it's a false start during the last 2 minutes. It's an NFL rule and I'm pretty sure it was in last gen.
13-incomplete
14-20 seconds left at the snap, pick 6 that runs it down to 3 seconds left.
15-kick return ends the game.
In 1:55, 15 plays were run, and had it not been for the long INT return that was meant to run some clock (when the returner didn't go into the endzone right away), they could have probably run 18-20 plays. This includes 3 times where they had to hurry up and they didn't spike the ball once.
It sounds like I'm nitpicking, but I'm really looking forward to the game and just trying to point out a couple things. It looks great and really fun, and I'm hoping that the work done to help the pass rush makes the underneath routes and checkdowns more enticing. It's just those big plays and CPU 2 minute drills that irk me a bit, but even with these things, I still can't wait to play the game.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
Ian thanks for the vid's. I thought I'd chime in on some of the things that might hold this game back from being the best football game ever. (And my copy is paid in full and waiting for me at midnight on Aug. 14th) I've clearly seen the upgrade from 09 to 10 so there's too many good things for me to state here.
So im just gonna give a few negatives that I've seen. Im gonna break them down by position. My main concerns are from the defensive side of the ball at a few positions.
DT/Nose Tackle- These guys are simply not doing anything. They are getting no pressure up the middle. Leaving huge step up lanes for the qb in the pocket. IMO they are being man handled by the O-linemen. There AI needs to understand that on a 3rd and 1, they need to jam the middle.
DE- (3-4) They seem to be getting engulfed into the block instead of taking on the block but keeping there outside shoulder/hand free and trying to contain. Ngata should have been nearly impossible to block with only 1 person.
De (4-3)- They are not getting up field enough (or fast enough) on pass situations. They should not be trying to get engaged to the blocker but rather trying to get by them. They also need to work harder on containment on run play situations. More moves need to me used to get off the blocks, (rip,swim,ect...) Jevon Kearse should have cause more havoc for the Ravens rookie RT.
OLB- need to stop worrying about attacking the middle. Leave that for the Mlb. They need to concentrate more on the outside. On pass situations and they are blitzing off the edge same thing that goes for the DE's , they need to get upfield faster, and try not getting blocked instead of going right into engagement. Terrell Suggs was he even on the field? Keith Bulluck anyone? These guys need to dominate like we see on sundays.
MLB- He needs to attack more sideline to sideline. (Did Rey Lewis make a tackle in that video?) The Mlb is getting stuck to much in the middle getting engaged. He needs to attack to the ball carrier while trying to shed the blocks in the process. (There is no reason on a toss play that Rey Lewis should be caught up in the middle.)
CB- Not much to complain about here, other than in short zones should come up and atleast try and help out more in the run game.
S- Where do I start! The angles are simply horrible. Ed Reed is one of the better safety's in the NFL and the game did him no justice (other than the 1 pick he got) But god I hope Bob Sanders / Troy Polumala take better angles seeing there more run stoppers than Reed. On the toss plays why does the Safety react to the middle? They should be hauling @ss to the outside taking the proper angles to atleast attempt a tackle.
In the end I think that the Star players esspecially on the Defensive side of the ball need to be taken more account of in the game. We should have to worry about running the ball Ngata's way. ANd worry about the pressure coming from Suggs ...ect..... It seemed to me that getting 100 yds vs the Ravens was a little bit on the easy side. And CJ was breaking out of a few to many tackles. He's got speed but once some has him wrapped I dont think his chances of escape should be in his favor like a Brandon Jacobs.
Would love to see a more defensive battle from two teams like that. But hopefully with a little tweaking things can become better on the D side of the ball. Or atleast allow the sliders maxed out for pass rush actually mean something.
Keep up the great work Ian!Basketball Playbooks

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
Literally, my only ONLY complaint is that Ray Rice is #27, not 39. He took it after training camp his rookie year when the other #27 got cut. I'm surprised nobody mentioned this in the first 6 pages....I'm not even a Ravens fan (Rutgers in the family)
I am more a casual/hardcore Madden gamer (I'm not an armchair coach, I enjoy the game of football as a whole, not nitpicky, I wouldn't notice 90% of the peoples complaints here. So from my own eyes, this game looks 85000x better than any other NFL game I have seen (NFL 2k5 included)...I loved that game but it doesn't even come close to the realm of reality this nearly hits. I truly believe that all the people complaining about an animation (really? it's that big a deal?) need to just relax and enjoy the fact we're even getting an NFL game. It's all we've got, and perfection is in the eye of the beholder.
I preordered last month, and I'm silently counting down the days until I can boot this sucker up in my PS3! Thank you so much Ian!Last edited by RedZoneD25; 06-13-2009, 03:40 AM.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
Quick note: As time expires in the game, there's a cut scene of Flacco talking on the phone. It probably shouldn't be playing at that moment. It's a little late for offensive adjustments.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
Just got around to watching the vids. The BEST thing I got from these videos is that there is an actual playoff type atmosphere. FINALLY!!! From the Playoff logo on the field(which I have been asking for in Madden since the NFL started using it years ago), to the explosive sound of the crowd and their chants, to the emotion of the players after big plays, and just the simple little text under the scoreboard that reads "Wild Card Round". For the first time EVER in a Madden game, it seems the playoffs will not feel the same as a Preseason game. Every single year this has been a HUGE gripe from me and others. Just absolutely no way the playoffs should ever be portrayed as so dull and unimportant. So Madden 10 has certainly taken a giant step in the right direction. Hopefully big game atmosphere is something you continue to build and improve upon. Very ****ing happy about it!!!Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
eh, not impressed with the return of all the Pick-6 action. every INT gets returned for a TD again. it really needs to be toned down. the game does look good this year but that along with the robotic commentary & robotic run animations cause just a bit of a damper on the game. but i love the direction the presentation is going, it really adds to the game.Comment

The weather was cold, but coach and refs were in short sleeves. Hope that gets fixed b4 launch...great eye candy...commentary, not happening...had 2 turn the sound down to stay awake...pleased at what I've seen so far!Comment

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
Looking good.. finally Madden has some soul with presentation.
Crowds sound alot better now...
Crowd animation needs work.. every other fan in the stand has the same animation...i think this should be addressed too, would do wonders for the look of the crowd. I understand there are thousands of fans in the stands..but mixing up the animations a bit more for the fans would help alot. It would probably help to not have every fan in the stands standing up at all times jumping up and down..thats not how the fans at real nfl games react during the entire game...at a real nfl game..some fans are sitting down..also more varied colored shirts are needed in the stands ..i know its a small nitpick but take a look at All Pro Football..the fans in that game are perfect..the crowds look great in APF
Another issue....players on the sideline..when a RB or returner breaks a huge run down the sideline..lets see the players on the sideline actually looking where the ball carrier is.. cheering, clapping and waving towards the endzone as the RB or Returner runs past the players on the sideline..right now, the unresponsive players on the sideline sticks out like a soar thumb..just something i think would help madden greatly with the overall feel.
Toss in more varied cutscenes...i think a bit more various "different" cutscenes would be ideal to help prevent too much repeating of the same cutscenes....like the guy holding the D Fence sign..i think that cutscene repeated a tad too much during one game....you know, you get enough in there and its gonna do wonders in helping cutscenes not repeat so much...but for the first year effort..its good..im expecting Madden11 to have the presentation down pat and polished but this year its definately nice...its heading in the right direction.
Half time and post game needs a serious facelift for Madden11..im not expecting any changes at this point for Madden10 but i think this should be addressed next year...same with the commentary.. the commentary is such a HUGE part of football...if the Madden guys can redo commentary for next year, make it more "real-time" i guess is a good word to explain what im saying..when a RB starts to break a big run..we want to hear the announcers get excited .......and as i suggested.. spice up the half time and post game stuff with some locker room cutscene's with the coach going over gameplans for the 2nd half and allow us the gamers to adjust gameplans, etc during the locker room cutscene..that would be nice..half time should be more robust and allow the gamer to make adjustments for offense, defense, etc
Overall, im impressed...im VERY exited to play Madden2010..it looks so different now with the nice presentation..the entire flow of Madden has changed because of this presentation added this year..nice job guysLast edited by Moegames; 06-13-2009, 05:15 AM...You win some, you lose some

I don't think he's necessarily looking for pats on the back. It's hard to make progress when you're told you're doing nothing right.
It would be extremely frustrating if I was your waiter at a restaurant and when I went to take your order all you told me was "IT'S COLLLLD IN HERE!!!1 I HATE TOMATOESS!!!! YOUHAVE DIRTY BATHROOMS!!!"
If you notice something you don't like, by all means, point it out. But the "this is the same old broken, sh***y Madden" attitude is kind of tired at this point. If you are thoroughly convinced that, despite the obvious improvements, this game is not going to satisfy you, I think you might want to drop football video games and pick up a new hobby.
Ian isn't doing us any favors by making Madden, it's his job. But the dedication he has shown to the community is not a job requirement. He could drop it all right now and we could never hear from him again and I guarantee you he wouldn't be reprimanded in the least by his superiors. We have a unique opportunity here and I'd hate to see it go to waste because a handful of people want to "tell it like it is" or as I think most people would say "be douchebags".Last edited by Moegames; 06-13-2009, 05:44 AM...You win some, you lose some

Re: Madden NFL 10 Videos: Ravens (CPU) vs. Titans (Ian) Full Gameplay in HD
*At 2:29 of 3rd Vid, the "QB comparison is missing the attempt stat. "Comp" should say "Comp/Att" and the stat should be "6/8", "8/12" etc... it's improper to show just a completion stat without the attempt stat.
Oddly enough, in the 5th vid, near the end, you actually have it correct in the "Star of the Game" shot, showing the completions and attempts.
*There were very few auto-replays when compared to the number of plays worthy of having an auto-replay.
*Commentary lines are terribly written. New writers with know-how are needed. There are just too many bad lines to list them all. To hear Alex saying these bad lines, too... It's tragic... just tragic.
In all honesty, the commentary sounds the same as last year.
*Not enough guys in sleeves... Coaches not in Jackets. Refs not in jackets... Fans not in jackets... it's January and obviously cold...
*I've noticed this in several vids but in the 4th vid at 2:05, they measure a run that was clearly way ahead of the first down marker.
It seems to almost always happen at the exact same point, too. Measurements shouldn't happen on obvious successful first down attempts like this one. I saw this a lot at CD.
*The refs coming out to confer about whether a guy crossed the goaline simply happens way too much, to the point of actually making the scene an eye-roller. This scene should only happen every once in a while. Like once per game, IF that.
Also, there should be a replay showing us whether the player got in or not... but only sometimes.
*The exact same cutscene of the Ravens coach on the sideline played constantly. The exact same scene. Something is wrong with that. I know there are more cutscenes than that, they should be playing.Comment
