Thanks shade. Apparently EA doesn't understand that ranked teams should be better than unranked teams.

Boise State went 12 - 1 and is a B. BYU was 10-3 and is a C+. TCU was 11-2 and is a B-. Utah went 13-0 and is a B-.

These teams are respectively ranked 14, 17, 19 and 24 in NCAA 10. All those teams had great years and are expected to be strong again in 09. Yet they are all rated lower than unranked Michigan and Tennessee who stunk last year and are expected to be worse than normal for traditionally strong programs.

Tennessee went 5-7 but is a B+?!?
Michigan was 3-9 but is somehow a B+?!?

I don't think this is a roster issue because the rosters have most of the upperclassmen and those are the players that influence the teams ratings the most. A quick glance at the TB rosters showed that the non-BCS teams have highly rated players such as Kellen Moore, Jerry Hughes and Max Hall.

Does anyone else ever feel like the NCAA developers aren't hardcore college football fans? When you read blogs by Ian it is obvious that he follows the NFL and knows football.
When I read the NCAA blogs I feel like it's written by someone who makes football video games but isn't a football fanatic.

There is a big difference.

I definitely feel this way, and I'm betting a lot of the hardcore college football fans here do too. I just wish they could understand why we are such hardcore college football fans. It's all about the passion and the excitement, and that's what we're hoping to recapture while playing this game. However, with people developing the game who don't understand why us hardcore cfb fans are so passionate about college football, it's hard to give us what we need to feel the passion, excitement, and overall atmosphere that we love in the NCAA games. This is probably best saved for another thread, though.

In regards to your comments about the ratings, I think EA has to try to predict that power programs will perform as they traditionally have, especially because the power programs have the biggest fan bases, and those fans don't want their favorite teams to be junk in the game. It's inevitable that EA will overrate power programs.

rosters will still be effected for some teams. Some teams will lose high rated players because those players already graduated, some will receive very good freshman to boost them. Also if they have some of the ratings wrong for certain players (which I think they do) that could have an effect as well.

if they actually change south carolina's default 2009 ratings by release day, the defense probably shouldnt have a lower letter grade than the offense. hopefully both will go up, but i want the defense to be at least a top 20 unit on the game.

First of all Shade, thanks for finding, and posting, this info. Per the comment above, if EA feels they have to suck up to so-called power programs then that's just sad. Michigan had a crap year in 2008 (NCAA09) yet that isn't reflected in NCAA 2010???

Maybe their fans can see what fans of other schools have to routinely deal with... you have to play well, recruit well and win to improve.

Oh well... I guess in the end it doesn't matter. It just means I'll schedule games against Florida State and Michigan in my dynasty and kick their butts, giving them each an early season loss. LOL

Looking at the rating it seems like just did the rosters for the top couple teams and their favorites then said screw the rest.

Just because your favorite team beat team X in 2008, doesn't mean you carry all that into the 2009 season. I'm sure graduations, transfers, and recruiting had to play some part in these rankings. Just because your favorite team isn't an A+, and team X you beat LAST YEAR is better than them, doesn't mean that this list is flawed.

But, I would like to know how much of an impact these factors have, because Iowa with C+ OVR, B- OFF, C+ DEF is puzzling. Maybe it's just a formula involving your players OVR ratings?

Who knows, because no EA dev will come on the boards and try to justify or explain these ratings. I wish we had the community interaction the Madden forums get with Ian.

I think the rating is pretty good though, defense should probably be A- or B+, too. Offense should be better this year, even after losing players.

Minnesota should get more love, I doubt their ratings reflect the amount of speed Brewster brought into the program on both sides of the ball. It's time they bring in experts on EVERY conference to do ratings and rosters... AT LEAST buy the magazines lol.

I am happy with USF being a B+, B+, B+.

Does anyone know how they come up with these letter grades, Miami is a B+ and especially FSU (which is apparantly a B+ overall) has much higher rated players than we do.

It's a better team. If they had more ratings, it would have FSUs players with A or A- ratings, and a few coaches with C or C-.
