Divot, quick feedback on your suggestion.... WOW! I'm totally hooked now. I've got expert clubs across the board and the game now feels even better. The mid to long irons now exhibit a more reasonable trajectory, the 3 Wood is also much better. I would up with: Driver - 18%, Fairway Woods - 20%, Irons - 19%, Wedges - 24%. 17% seems to be the jumping off point for me right now.
I'm finding that I am being rewarded for following a more realistic tempo. If you're nearly perfectly straight with the stick, it lets you get away with quick twitches, but if you're offline a bit, it seems to punish you more severely. Overall, I just feel that I don't have to power through the ball to hit a pro trajectory shot.
Using my new clubs and settings, I played a PGA Season round at Hazeltine, in Pro difficulty with Precision putting on, meter off, and naturally, boost, post shot spin, and putt preview off. I pushed my tee shot into a fairway side bunker and had to punch out under a tree. I got twitchy on the bunker punch shot and found my way to the next one up the right side. I then reminded myself to get back in tempo. I put the 7-iron bunker shot on the front of the green and three putted (nothing new there).
As the round progessed, I got more confident with my swing, but I still wound up missing 5 fairways, one of them nearly OB. I also missed 6 greens, 2 of them badly. I wound up shooting a 69, in spite of two double bogies. I just felt so good to have my sense of rhythm called upon to make this work, even though in reality, you can get away without tempo if you have machine like precision. That will never be a problem for me!
Suffice it to say, this round I just played at Hazeline with this new setup is one I'll never forget... it had a number of euphoric - oh wow! - moments!
