Four years later. It’s my draft year. I’ve been selected to represent Canada at the World Junior Tournament for the first time ever. I scored two goals and two assists in the round robin. Here we are now in the Gold Medal Game against Finland. Yesterday, I watched as USA beat Russia 5-4 for the Bronze. The Americans have some good players like Steven Raczkowski, Peter Carey, Nick Ritt, James Aldridge, Scott Quickel, Steve Holley, Patrick Cosgrove and Ernie Volpe on their squad. Defenseman Ken Plotzke scored the winning goal midway through the 3^rd period.

The first round comes to an end. I’m still sitting in the Bell Centre waiting for my name to be called. New Ranger GM Steve Yzerman goes to the podium to make the 49^th overall selection.

“With the 49^th overall pick in the draft, the NY Rangers are proud to select, from Halifax of the QMJHL, Derrick Thomas.”

I just sat there. All I could think was that Steve Yzerman, my hero, had just said my name! I was snapped back to reality when Frank put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Hey Derrick, you might not want to make them wait much longer.”

I stood up quickly, Frank and Kate stood and smiled at me. Kate was crying. I hugged her and whispered, “thanks…mom.” It was the first time I had ever referred to either of them as mom or dad, and it only made her cry more. After hugging Frank, I made my way down to the podium. Gary Bettman shook my hand and welcomed me to the NHL.

Damn what a draft clas... And you shouldve punched Bettman in the face...lol

Nice, I'm a blue shirt. I guess it figures with my massive size (If I remember correctly), to balance out the shorties on the team.
Ahhhhh, the smilies, they burn my eyes!!!

I've had this stuff written out in Word for about a week now...do you see alot of smilies in what I am posting? Because I can't...anyone see any smilies in my posts?

I use word for Mikko and Alexei, but I don't get this.

Try either re-posting them with a different browser, or transferring all of the posts to "Wordpad" or "notepad", which are standard with every version of Windows.

I've never had any smiley insubordination, though, so I don't know if that will work. Just give it a try and see what you get!

****ing smileys. Thanks for letting me know guys, I appreciate it. I'll start using Wordpad/Notepad and see if that helps, and when I get time tomorrow I'll try editing my first posts and re-doing them in wordpad.
