I hate Gamestop more than I hate the honta virus.

But... I like that they're giving a 20min demo, which is much better than most football games, limited to just a few minutes of play.

Choosing to do the demo release through a pre-order and through gamestop achieves a couple things. One, Gamestop pays EA for this exclusivity, which in turn gaurantees Gamestop a certain amount of business. Two, by pre-releasing a demo to early reservation crowds, those are people who would be more likely to like the game regardless of its flaws. Now, that might not work so much when it comes to us at OS who are more critical of our favorite games, but for the majority of people who pre-order, they're more likely to give a positive review of the game than the general Joe Schmoe who downloads it from XBL on a whim.

It's smart by EA & Gamestop. Gamestop, though, is one of the stores that is on my perma-black-list and I think I'd rather punish myself and wait two weeks than give them $5 for a pre-order or force myself to buy the game there.

I'll definitely have to cancel my preorder at GameStop after I pick up the demo.

Do you have to move your preorder to a different game or can you get your money back?

Nope. I do that all the time. If there's a good demo, I'll preorder and then cancel it a couple days later for a $5 cash refund.

I just went to GameStop and the codes won't be available till July 15 and he also mentioned if you preorder NCAA you get something that makes the NCAA trade in value $40 towards Madden.

Thanks a lot for screwing us (the consumers who don't buy at Gamestop) over EA.

I find crap like this intolerable.

There isn't even a Gamestop in my city. I don't even know if there's one in my country (Canada).

They did the same thing with Tiger Woods 10, giving out the Spyglass course code to Gamestop customers.

I buy most of my games at EB. Why not give them the code.

Again, this is so stupid. It's almost as if EA marketing guys are doing everything in their power to tick us off. (I don't blame the developer guys. I know it's out of their hands).

You sure Ebgames doesn't have these promotions as well? I'm really not sure but i always thought they were affiliated. And upon going to check ebgames website it says powered by gamestop, so it might be worth checking....and then letting me know lol.

Also take note from Ebgames website:
Reserve Madden NFL 10 and receive the GameStop exclusive Super Bowl XLIII rematch demo with full length quarters. The demo will feature four 5-minute quarters between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals. Available for online and in-store customers while supplies last.

It does say Gamestop exclusive but it seems worth calling or something to check.

lol...why the rage? I honestly don't see how it screws anyone over. It's a promotion...happens all the time. I'm pretty sure it stated you can do get it for online preorders (negating the argument about local availability if true) and nobody has to do it if they don't want to deal with Gamestop. If you don't participate, you miss out on 20 minutes of early build gameplay...that's it. Plus, EB is Gamestop...or at least under the same blanket. It might be worth checking that out.

It's actually pretty smart marketing on both ends. Gamestop gets more preorders and Madden gets some hype (along with money from Gamestop) for doing it. I don't see a problem with it at all...particularly since it doesn't hurt consumers.

I guess I just don't understand the basis of such outrage over a promotional demo. Exclusives happen all the time...it's not just an EA hype machine issue...lol (It seems EVERY game has some type of Walmart exclusive unlock or whatever). It almost seems it's being used as an excuse to bash EA at this point.

EDIT: someone already mentioned the EB connection. I'd seriously check that out if this demo is important to you.

if you preorder the game online you'll get the code via email, and it won't cost you 5 dollars.

i preordered fn4 online, cancelled the order as soon as i made it, and i still got the code when it came out.

There is no EBgames. EBgames is Gamestop, they became the same store when GS bought EBgames.

Ummmm yea .. but it's still called EB Games up here in Canada .. we do have a couple Gamestops but they are few and far between ..
