Honestly guys, I didn't know that ... and I bought TW10 at EB and they didn't offer me a code for Spyglass.

And, all that aside, I don't think Gamestop/EB customers should get something the rest of us don't.

Hell, Wal-Mart sells more games than Gamestop ... why not give that to Wal-Mart?

Not everyone lives in a Gamestop/EB city ... and, apparently, a lot of EB employees don't even know about these codes.

the theory is that a preorder is a guaranteed sale. so you want people to preorder as much as possible.

It's just not FAIR, so why don't we just ask EA to do it like the old days and release the demo 1 week prior to release? C'mon dude, Gamestop cut a deal with EA just like EA cut a deal with the NFL. The latter sucks and is a legit gripe, but what's the harm with the former? We get to play Madden a month before release while EA gets early feedback from it's hardcore fans so they can get a head start on fixing problems.

I think it's great to get demo's so early. I was playing football games before the internet existed - and when demos and even previews didn't exist. A game would pop up on the shelf and you'd just buy it without any info about it. You gotta find some better issues to complain about. Companies cut deals - that's life in the big city. If you want to stick it to Gamestop then pre-order, get your demo code then cancel the order. Doesn't cost you a dime.

You're first mistake was thinking someone at Gamestop actually knew what they were talking about.

The demo codes are released in mid july and the demo is late July, I think.

Probably an employee too lazy to look up the info - just throw the guy a bone and he'll go away. That's how the Gamestop people are in my town anyway.

Again - last years early demo was released July 22 so I'd expect it to be around the same time this year. Gamestop will not be a happy camper if EA releases it too close to the public demo. I'm pretty sure their contract with EA specifies a time frame for release, and if EA doesn't fulfill it's obligation they won't get paid.

I would be fine with a late July demo for Madden 10, I think that's perfectly fair. Also, if I were EA and if Pro-Tak really is a winning feature for Madden (which is a BIG "if"), I'd be concerned about letting people play with that feature before they run out and buy NCAA 10 on or around 7/14/09. I'm interested in owning both games, but I've said repeatedly that if Ian has Pro-Tak working like it's supposed to (as in, anything like a smoothed out version of APF 2k8's tackling), it's going to be pretty darn hard to suffer through NCAA '10 and pre-canned animations for tackles.

I hate Gamestop more than I hate the honta virus.

But... I like that they're giving a 20min demo, which is much better than most football games, limited to just a few minutes of play.

Choosing to do the demo release through a pre-order and through gamestop achieves a couple things. One, Gamestop pays EA for this exclusivity, which in turn gaurantees Gamestop a certain amount of business. Two, by pre-releasing a demo to early reservation crowds, those are people who would be more likely to like the game regardless of its flaws. Now, that might not work so much when it comes to us at OS who are more critical of our favorite games, but for the majority of people who pre-order, they're more likely to give a positive review of the game than the general Joe Schmoe who downloads it from XBL on a whim.

It's smart by EA & Gamestop. Gamestop, though, is one of the stores that is on my perma-black-list and I think I'd rather punish myself and wait two weeks than give them $5 for a pre-order or force myself to buy the game there.

Assuming you're a consumer like I am, I don't know what your beef is. GameStop makes sick profits on trade-ins, but that's entirely to the consumer's benefit. It's not even like it used to be where I'm buying somebody's used cartridge with their crappy save information still on it...a used 360 disc (assuming it's not scratched up) is no different than a new version of the game. So, even if my savings is only $5 (though it's usually much more later in the life span of the release), why would you pay full value.

The better question is how these game companies can stomach crawling into bed with GameStop. THEY'RE the ones getting burned, since they make money off of NEW copies sold into the stream of commerce. The developer only gets one sale while GameStop gets to buy and sell the game multiple times over a period of years for a profit each time!

Madden doesn't want to step on NCAA's toes right in the middle of their marketing hype & release. When things with NCAA settle down that's when to start firing up the Madden hype.

NCAA 09 release date: July 15, 2008 Tuesday
Madden 09 early demo release date: July 22, 2008 Tuesday
Madden 09 public demo release date: Aug 1, 2008 Friday

NCAA 10 release date: July 14, 2009 Tuesday

So if things follow the same pattern as last year with the public demo being released on Friday, July 31 I think the demo will be released on Tuesday, July 21. At the latest I'd say July 24 if they want to do a Friday release for the weekend.

If anyone is still on the fence about acquiring the early demo, keep in mind the public demo will only be 1 minute quarters. Have fun practicing your coin tosses and kickoffs.

I just preordered Friday. I hope they don't run out in my neghborhood. I live by 3 Gamespots so it's whatever.
