Re: Fight Night Round 4 Impressions
Sorry guys. I just spent a good hour doing the Legacy Mode.
I didn't do any exhibition but maybe I'll do that tomorrow.
Through the amateur tournament and my career I've had 6 fights (as a heavyweight).
My first fight the guy was a straight up can. This guy didn't do anything spectacular.
The 2nd guy was a southpaw and pure counterpuncher. It was tough getting through to hiim because his crab guard was tough to get my jab through. But I worked from inside and out and got a 4 round sweep decision on him.
The next dude was a brawler and it was more of a war.
The fourth was another strong boxer-puncher. He knocked me down in the first, but I came back to win the last 3 rounds and win the tourny.
I never got one knockout and only scored one knockdown in the tourny. Yes, I suck. But since I got the PS3 version the controls seem a bit more senstive than the 360's. But I"m getting used to it.
So I get into the career mode and pick a can to fight as my first pro fight.
I knocked the guy down 3 times over 5 rounds before the ref finally stopped it. I had him floored and he was wobbling all over the place trying to get up.
My first knockdown was a flash KD with a beautiful left-uppercut. I'm surprised I didn't take his head off.
There was nothing really special about this guy. He didn't really come at me but he would try to fight in close but wasn't effective at anything.
The next guy was a short Irish dude who was very built. He worked the bob-and-weave to perfection. My jab could barely touch this guy. But I managed to stagger him with a perfectly timed right-cross as he waded in. It stunned him big time and I went in for the kill and finally knocked him down with a right-hook to the body, left-hook to the head combo.
He came back strong and actually stunned me several times over the fight. I managed a 6 round decision.
The CPU definitely has different styles and even going from 4 amateur to 2 pro fights I can see the AI getting smarter. They'll tie up more, learn from your tendencies (like going to the body over and over) and use their skills to their advantage.
The shorter fighters will definitely try to get inside while taller fighters will do their best to fight from outside. But in a couple of fights I had with taller dudes, if I was beating them to the jab, they started to rush me and try to corner me.
I only selected 3 real pro's in the heavyweight ranks, while I left all the real boxers, past and present in the other 7 weight classes.
James Toney, Eddie Chambers and Mike Tyson are in my division. I made Mike a champ with Toney and Edide as contenders. Toney hasn't faired so well thus far. He started off well enough winning 4 straight. But then he suffered a 5rd KO at the hands of Chambers and it's been down hill since then.
Chambers started off poorly but has since strung 4 wins in a row and propelled himself into the top 30.
You'll get notices to look out for up and comers, belts changing hands, etc.
And the scheduling is really cool. Depending on how much damage you took in your fight you'll be forced to rest for 'x' amount of days. My last fight took a bit out of me so I had to sit for over 3 weeks before I was allowed to train and schedule my next fight.
So far I'm really liking this game.
And for those worried about stamina, NO worries. AT least not as a rookie fighter. I went nuts on one of my opponents as an amateur and my stamina went to 0 in a heartbeat. And if you work their body, bye-bye wind.Comment

Re: Fight Night Round 4 Impressions
Yeah, it's really cool.
Thomas Hearns just won a belt after losing his to Leonard in a 12 round decision.
Leonard is also a belt holder.
I think I"m more interested in what's going on with the CPU fighters than myself. lol.Comment
