(Tip: You'll also be able to go through your progressions WHILE the Qb is dropping back)

I understand that,my POINT is you should be able to interupt those drop backs by moving the stick, like once I hike the ball and I start doing the drop back if I see a hole open up I want to be able to run through it right away instead of waiting for the drop back to finish. A few ppl here said they automatically do the drop back and you can't use your stick to go forward until the drop back animation is done, which is NOT REALISTIC.

I want full control of the QB,if I want the drop back to play out which most of the time I will obviously, I'll leave it alone, but if I see a wide open hole for me to fun through right away, I want to hit that hole as long as I have a QB with the agility and quickness to get through it. You see what I'm saying.

This is why I hate EA. All this presentation stuff should of been in 08 at least but of course not. They want to screw around and put the least amount of stuff they can get away with each year. I hope that court thing with the 2 gamers that the judge allowed to move forward blows up in the NFL's faces and then maybe we can get some more competition.

Hey Ian do you know whether we can retire player jerseys in franchise mode this year and/or keep career stats of our HOF players after they retire? I've been in cases in Years 25-30 of my franchise where I have a QB (Packers) who's approaching Favre's records and I've always wanted to go back and compare their stats.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Developer Q&A (Gameshark)

Long time lurker here, and never post since most of the question I have are asked by other, but I am surprised no one brought this up:

Donny: Let me answer this in reverse. We have five new ratings this year, all at the QB position. We split Throw Accuracy into three accuracy ratings: Short, Mid, and Deep. Short accuracy is used to determine passes 20 yards and under, mid accuracy is used from 21-40, and deep is used for 41+ (that’s in exact distance from the QB to his target…not from the LOS to the yard line of the WR).

Shouldn't this be more like more like> short 1-8 medium 8-20 and deep 20 +? I added a couple extra yards in because Donny stated that is from the QB not LOS.

If they keep it this way it penalizes Mcnabb more than he should (dude can't throw a screen to save his life but has no issue with a 5 yard slant or out) and pretty much has anyone with a decent Short Accuracy throwing good passes for a 13 yard average.

Yeah ^ 0-20 is a bit long for "short" accuracy. I didn't even notice that.

And where is this auto-drop back? Was that written somewhere else? I don't mind it I am just curious as to how one would know how many steps it is on X play and what not.

I asked Ian about this and got no reply. I hope that since they have the e-a-g-l-e-s eagles chant they have fly eagles fly.

                      1. it only prevents big gains if you are facing a 5 line front.
                      2. going by what Ian is saying, all they did is just make the QB fall down automatically, and you just kind of steer the QB before that happens.

Maybe i am misunderstanding, and Ian can clarify this further.. but this is how it sounds to me.. and thats kinda lame if I am correct.
Yo... i completely agree with you it just seems kind of pointless your just steering your qb to the ground when he wasnt even in danger of being hit.

Against a 4 man front, the qb will tuck and run. Because you have 5 blockers and 4 linemen.

Against 5+ man fronts, your qb will dive for the first down, otherwise he will die.

                        The concept makes perfect sense.

Hey Ian, I don't think this is a big issue with most but with how I am a Bears fan and they run a cover 2 defense I was wondering if anything has been done to change the CBs logic when the defense is in a cover 2.

What usually happens is he jams the WR and then sits in the flats. But in a cover 2 he is supposed to read the flat as he's pressing and if he sees no threat he takes the WR in a similar way a "curl to flat zone" does in madden (the purple one), he plays short trailing the WR and protecting the sideline while the safety protects deep and to the inside. The only time he releases the WR to the safety is if there is a threat to the flat. Generally this is a TE or slot WR. The safety reads this player and if he sees him go to the flat he knows to go over the top because the CB is releasing his WR to cover the flat. If the safety's guy comes deep along with the CBs man then it basically turns into a cover 4, which isn't the case in madden, making it useless against a vertical passing attack.

The whole premise of the tampa 2 is to eliminate the deep ball and use a fast and instictive defense to persue and hold WRs to a short gain with little to no YAC. While the cover 2 in madden does the second part well (if you have a fast D) the first part is the furthest thing from it.

I love madden and it really kills the game for me to not have the CBs play the cover 2 correctly. Without them playing the sideline the way I explained it is impossible to contain deep outs unless you shade the coverage outside. If thats done it opens up the deep middle even more than it already was, making the cover 2's first rule "don't give up the deep ball" completely untrue in madden.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still get the game for the online play but franchise just doesn't feel right if I can't run the same D my team does

                            Tampa 2

                            Tampa 2 vs Cover 2

Its from the distance of the QB to the WR. Account for a 5-7 yard drop back and triangulate the distance horizontally and the 20 yard range isn't very big unless its over the middle. I don't think a 5 yard out would even fit into that catagory. The triangle would be 10 by ~18 (5+5 for the vertical distance and 15-20 for the horizontal distance). That'd make it a throw of a little more than 20 and a half yards, just out of the short range, shich makes sense to me.
