Because this series has made the greatest strides of all the EASports series. In fact, of about all sports series, except The Show. From killer new features to improved gameplay. The NHL series has never been so popular. The video looks nice, don't get me wrong. I'm curious as to how '09 won twelve sports video game of the year awards? It must have been a down year. There were a LOT of gameplay flaws and glitches, and I can only hope none of them reappear in NHL '10.Last edited by savoie2006; 07-06-2009, 04:41 PM. -

So true. It's gotten to the point where people who don't even like hockey that much are giving it a try. That's pretty impressive for a sports game.Online is where the glitches were abundant. If I never played online, I honestly would never know, because I never look for money goals.

Re: NHL 10 Video: Gameplay Features
Great video thanks! Another thing about NHL 09 is that it is still $54.99 used at gamestop here in Minnesota (I don't know if their prices are regional). A 10 month old sports game still at the same price it was when it came out. I think that says a lot about this game. Not many people are selling it or trading it in.Comment

Re: NHL 10 Video: Gameplay Refinements (IGN)
Most of what I played was offline. I played a few games online, both regular versus and the EASHL setup, and while those were certainly fun, I had a lot of connection issues and never really got too much into it (not many of my friends have '09).Did you play the online modes?
EASHL is the feature that put it over the top. I have never had more fun playing a video game than I have in that mode.
I can see how you'd dislike the game if you only played offline, because NHL 09's single player experience was dreadful due to all the AI problems.
Get a bunch of human guys playing together, though, and the AI problems disappear.
Also from what I've heard, there were a lot of complaints about playing online. I never really ran into any (other than the occasional 'lame' player), but I also didn't play online enough to judge either way.
So long as the AI issues are ironed out I'll be satisfied.
I can agree with that. Before '09 I hadn't played the EA NHL series since around '03 or '04, as I preferred the 2K series up until they lost the ESPN license after '05. As such, I guess I didn't really know how much the game improved.
I can attest to the fact that many of EA's other games definitely go the wrong way or simply plateau, although FIFA tends to do pretty well. I hope NHL can continue to improve, as well. So far '10 looks pretty good.Comment

Re: NHL 10 Video: Gameplay Refinements (IGN)
I'm one of those people.
I really haven't followed pro hockey in years. And I haven't bought a hockey video game in I'd say...close to ten years. I've been playing really nothing but football games. But NHL '08' change that.
Since getting '08'...I'm hooked. I can't really explain why, but I just enjoy the hell outta playing NHL. As you said Lubey....pretty impressive for a sports game.1969 NFL ChampionsComment

See I think 10 may be even more impressive for you Vikes than alot of us. Your first taste of the EASHL if you plan to do any online play and the first time seeing how much stick lifts add to the defensive side of the game. I'm almost jealous.I'm one of those people.

Re: NHL 10 Video: Gameplay Refinements (IGN)
Yep Realmk...going from '08' to '10' should be a very nice upgrade for me. However, I only play off-line dynasty mode. Nothing against on-line, but spending time with my son playing the game and dynasty mode is just my thing.
As I said earlier...I'm not really sure what it is about the NHL game that has really grabbed my interest, but it has. If I had to guess, I think it's that the gameplay has a rewarding feel to it. Win or lose...I feel as though I deserved it. Some sports games just don't give off that feeling. To me, anyway.1969 NFL ChampionsComment

Yeah I feel the exact same way. I play far more franchise than online and what has really kept me coming back to the game the past couple years is AI. Its challenging and with the right sliders plays a fairly realistic game. Can't wait for the improvements 10 should bring.Yep Realmk...going from '08' to '10' should be a very nice upgrade for me.
