    Seattle SuperSonics

After watching the NBA draft and see the Thunder get yet another building block to build their future, it made me wonder. When will the Sonics return?

We all know Clay Bennet is working his *** off to get a team back in Seattle, because in 3 years if he doesn't he will have to pay a lot of money. I have heard rumors about how the Nets could possibly become the new sonics, I have even heard that Memphis might pack up and move, but that got me thinking.

Devin Harris and Brooke Lopez...going to be awesome, but they aren't Sonics. OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay...awesome, but not Sonics.

So my question is, for those of you who are even somewhat fans of the Sonics, would you want an already established team like the Nets, or a brand new expansion team to start from scratch?

The Sonics need to be in the NBA.

OKC, no hate and man do they come out and support that team, but Seattle should've never left.

It pains me that such a great franchise was forced to move.

I wonder if the Kings will move. And I don't want the NBA to be more than 30 teams, so someone will have to move (Kings, Pacers...there have been rumors, Memphis etc.)

I think the Kings may move to Las Vegas within the next 5 years.

For the question, I think that a relocated Grizzlies would make a better Sonics team. The NBA talent pool is very good as is, and I don't see expansion in the foreseeable future. Of course, the NBA played many years with an odd number of teams including pre-2005 where the Raptors were the last team added and the Bobcats had yet to be incorporated. It's not like Major League Baseball which mandates an even number of teams, so adding one expansion team would work, though 31 is quite awkward.

The chances of the Nets moving to Seattle is about as good a chance as me leading the Packers to the Super Bowl. The only reason that we were even mentioned in the same sentence as Seattle is because people still think that the Barclays Center project is still in doubt. The move to Brooklyn WILL happen but in the even that it doesn't, Ratner would sell the team somebody that would plan on keeping them in the NY/NJ Area before ever selling it to somebody who would plan on relocating it across the country.

I would prefer to start fresh, but I don't care as long as we have basketball back in Seattle.

Now they remind me of a generic NBA team I would create on a video game.

Agreed. This team should never have left, and honestly the ideal situation would be to get the actual team back. One can dream ...

I sure want to see them back in Seattle... too much history with that team.

I mean come on, Gp and Kemp, Shrempf, Ray Ray, Hersey, Barros, Kendall Gill... go back and use those old jersey's again

I just dont ever see Seattle getting another team.
There will not be another expansion in the near future and Seattle is about 5th in line for a team that would move.
I could see Las Vegas, Brooklyn, Louisville, Kansas City way ahead of Seattle at this point.

Seattle will get a new team, IF they get the building figured out. The Key Arena renovation bill didn't make it this spring at the state level and it's very clear that is the biggest problem. There is still a flicker of hope that a special legislative could be called later this year and the bill could be put out on the floor, but it's still a longshot at best. Get the building up to snuff, and the NBA would welcome Steve Ballmer's billions and an NBA market with 40+ years of history with open arms, especially in today's economy. But until the building is figured out, the NBA will not come back to Seattle.

I've loved the Sonics forever, and at first I flat-out ignored the NBA this year. But as the playoffs got cooking, I couldn't turn away. The league has so many great players right now. For all of you living in an NBA city, I envy you. Enjoy what you have, for we are proof in the NW that even with a lot of history and a dynamic area of the country, it can be taken away in an instant.

Can you imagine if Barkley would have been on a team in Vegas? lol

                        Louisville and KC?

maybe KC, but I'm pretty sure people in KY don't give a damn about pro hoop.

And just like that, an interview pops up in today's Seattle Times, with quotes from David Stern. Even if it was just 1 minute and 43 seconds, he does offer some encouraging words for fans of the old franchise.

Fix the building, a team will end up there one way or another.
